Chapter 74: Silent war

Tracy yanked her hand away from Ethan after walking for what felt like forever , and honestly her legs gave out minutes ago trying to keep with him

"Oh, my heels! You’re hurting me," she snapped, rubbing her wrist."Sheesh don’t you have some bit of decency when holding a lady , you almost snapped my wrist in half " she said "You.....you knew about this?, about my fiancee and his brother?"

Ethan exhaled slowly, irritation flickering across his face. "Listen here, woman—"

"Tracy. My name is Tracy, not a woman ,have some basic respect if you are gonna lack manners ." she corrected him

"Not my problem woman," he replied flatly. "What exactly were you planning to do when you saw them? Scream? Yell? Gather an audience?"

"They were practically committing incest!" Tracy shot back. "And Hunter is my future fiancé ok , and why are you so calm? Your boyfriend was cheating on you too back there , im i the only one who is seeing this disgusting? ."

Ethan’s jaw tightened, but his voice remained controlled.

"Hunter and Lucian aren’t biological brothers. You know that." He stepped closer, lowering his voice. "And you and Hunter don’t even have a defined relationship yet, so don’t throw around words like ’cheating’ to satisfy your pride."

Tracy’s expression faltered for a split second.

"And for your information," he continued coldly, "Lucian and I ended things a long time ago."

That part came out sharper than he intended.

He ran a hand through his hair before fixing her with a steady look.

"Here’s the reality. If you tell everyone what you saw, it won’t help you. It won’t help Hunter either. And it definitely won’t help the Dastins at all." His tone hardened. "They’re already on the brink of war with the Gray family. A scandal like this? It will be a perfect balance to destroy what’s left of their reputation and the Gray family to win."

He leaned in slightly.

"If you want to act like a responsible future fiancée, then use your last functioning brain cell and keep quiet, or else you wanna be a saviour to your crashing marriage "

Without waiting for her response, he brushed past her.

Tracy stood frozen for a second, then huffed loudly in frustration. She ruffled her hair, her composure cracking.

"Who are you to tell me what to do?" she muttered under her breath, glaring at Ethan’s retreating figure.

But even as anger simmered in her chest, doubt crept in.

Because he wasn’t wrong.

And that made it worse. Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous she thought before she stormed off

Timothy walked briskly through the corridor, the echo of his boots bouncing off the walls. Each step carried a weight heavier than the adrenaline of his victory.

Why was she outside the VIP section? His mind raced, forcing him to replay every expression, every gesture from earlier. Why did she look like she was searching for someone?

He tightened his grip on his jacket strap, almost wishing he could unsee the flicker of unease in his mother’s eyes. Her smile had been too polished, too quick.

And why did she flinch when I called her?

The holding room door grew nearer, yet each step seemed slower than the last. Victory from the race faded in his mind, replaced by an unsettling tension. His gloves brushed against his sides, a small, meaningless movement compared to the storm brewing in his head.

He reached for the handle, pausing mid-step as a cold thought struck him: If there’s something threatening our family, something big enough to make her act like this... I need to know. Not as her son, not as the heir she raised, but as someone who refuses to be blindsided.

With a sharp inhale, Timothy opened the door and stepped inside, ready to confront whatever truths awaited , he stopped mid-step as he saw someone

Mikey yes

...but Mason?

For a second, he genuinely thought he had walked into the wrong room.

Mikey leaned back comfortably, flashing a grin. "Welcome back, champ. That was a massive win out there."

Timothy didn’t respond. His eyes stayed locked on Mason, still believing that his eyes were playing with him

Mason didn’t flinch.

"I’m sure you have questions," Mikey added casually. "Why don’t you sit first?"

A long pause.

Timothy finally walked in and sat down slowly, one ankle resting over his knee. His gaze never left Mason.

"What the heck is Lucian’s little shadow doing here?" Timothy asked flatly.

Mikey clasped his hands together. "Because, just like us, he wants the same thing."

Timothy’s eyes narrowed. "And that is?"

"To eliminate Lucian," Mason answered calmly.

The room fell silent.

Timothy let out a short, humorless scoff and leaned deeper into the couch. "And what makes you think I’d believe that? For all I know, you’re a rat sent to sniff around and report back."

Mason didn’t react to the insult. If anything, his expression hardened.

"I was never Lucian’s friend," he said quietly. "I stayed close because he had something I didn’t, something that i desperately want."

Timothy’s gaze sharpened. "And what exactly is that?"

Mason’s jaw tightened.

"Ethan."

The name landed heavy in the room.

"He has Ethan," Mason continued, his voice low but unwavering. "And I want Ethan to be mine."

Timothy studied him carefully. There was no hesitation. No trembling. Just obsession sitting plainly behind his eyes.

"That’s it?" Timothy asked. "You’re ready to betray him over a person?"

Mason’s lips curved faintly , not a smile, not quite.

"You call it betrayal," he said. "I call it correcting a mistake."

Timothy leaned forward now, interest piqued.

"And what makes you think eliminating Lucian will make Ethan run into your arms?"

Mason met his gaze without blinking.

"Because once Lucian is gone," he said slowly, "Ethan won’t have anyone left to choose, and besides ,me and Ethan used to have a secret thing before "

The air in the room shifted.

This wasn’t just jealousy.

This was calculation.

Mikey just smiled "now we have one more recruit ,and this time someone close to the target"
