After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 271 - 95: The Moving Calamity Kingdom_2
"Once the Calamity Kingdom approaches, it will lead to unprecedented chaos in their nation, so naturally, they don’t want us getting close,"
"The Calamity Kingdom?" Xi Mu asked in confusion, while the woman with green hair smiled faintly, raised her hand to her chest, and gave a curtsy.
"Lord Ahtal, I am Lola, a knight from the Kingdom of Donoma."
"Hello." Xi Mu revealed a gentle smile, causing Lola’s cheeks to flush with excitement, but she didn’t lose her composure.
Even though talking with a hero like Ahtal was an extremely rare opportunity, she still had serious matters to discuss.
"The moving Calamity Kingdom is what outsiders call the Demon Seal," said Lola as she stepped forward, coming closer to Ahtal’s side.
"Because when the Demon Seal approaches, it spawns a multitude of abnormalities, leading the nation into chaos, thus it is called the moving Calamity Kingdom," she murmured, her eyes lowered and voice soft.
To avert the approach of the moving Calamity Kingdom, many nations have formed an alliance to protest together, not allowing us to get close.
"Otherwise, I might as well return the prototype Sword of Light to the Dusk Cult," Xi Mu said expressionlessly, "and then see if they continue to resist."
He had done exactly that before: after being resisted by numerous nations, he returned the prototype Sword of Light to the Dusk Cult.
And once the Dusk Cult broke the seal of the source of fear, no one dared to resist them anymore, either being annihilated or... crumbling to ruin; everyone fled to escape the attacks of the source of fear.
That scene was quite interesting.
"That wouldn’t be good," murmured Lola softly, not taking to heart the almost self-destructive words of Ahtal.
A hero like Ahtal wouldn’t really do such a thing.
"Don’t worry, it’s just a slight detour," Xi Mu said with a tender smile, raising his hand to ruffle Lola’s hair. Seeing the knight embarrassingly trying to endure, he couldn’t help but stroke her hair a few more times.
This is the advantage of having high reputation—everywhere you go, there are lovely ladies looking at you with admiring eyes, without a hint of aloofness.
"But this does mean more hardship for you all," he sighed, and hearing this Lola quickly shook her head, urgently explaining to him:
"To share your concerns is my honor."
"..." Xi Mu feigned a momentary stupor, then once again burst into laughter, rubbing Lola’s head vigorously, revealing a very seductive smile.
"You truly are a gentle woman."
Pross: "..."
Why was it that when dealing with him, Lola was all business and seemed so aloof, yet with Ahtal, she was obedient and sensible?
Even though he was a spy, it still felt a bit stifling.
The differential treatment was far too obvious.
"Actually, I’m just doing what I should be doing," muttered Lola softly, embarrassed at being called a gentle woman by Ahtal, as she had usually been criticized for being too... indifferent.
And Ahtal was the first man to call her gentle.
"To do well what you should do is already very admirable," Xi Mu smiled, turning his gaze to Pross and said:
"This man’s swordsmanship isn’t bad; you could learn more from him."
"Her swordsmanship is stronger than mine," Pross said, twitching the corners of his mouth, truthfully stating Lola’s level of swordsmanship. He had wanted to act like a senior, but Lola’s swordsmanship was much stronger than his unorthodox style.
Considering Lola’s father was the strongest knight of the Kingdom of Donoma, it was quite normal; she had access to educational resources a commoner like him couldn’t match.
"Is that so, that’s truly impressive," Xi Mu exclaimed in surprise, and seeing his reaction, Pross sighed.
He waved his hand, abruptly changing the subject:
"The number of abnormalities is increasing, and if something difficult to handle appears, it’s going to be troublesome."
"Just a bit of trouble, nothing very formidable will appear," Xi Mu explained patiently, meeting Pross’s gaze, "It’s more important to worry about the followers of the Dusk Cult."
The stronger a person is, the more powerful the fear manifested in their hearts, but the fears of ordinary people, when manifested, aren’t particularly troublesome.
It’s unlikely that the inner fears of ordinary people would support the birth of an abnormality with the strength of a source of fear.
Thus, there’s no need for concern.
Of course, this wasn’t absolute. The oddity had room for growth. If it could spread its own fear into the hearts of people, then, its very existence could hugely swell, thus gaining a significant increase in strength.
"Hahaha... that’s true." Pross laughed heartily, feeling a bit guilty, as if Ahtal had seen through him.
"But it would be quite troublesome if this uncanny power triggered fear in our hearts, wouldn’t it?" He glanced towards the few Heroes fighting in the distance.
To that, Xi Mu offered an explanation.
"Don’t worry, it won’t affect us."
"Then I’m relieved." Pross smiled, watching Ahtal and Lola say their goodbyes and leave.
His hand subconsciously rested on the hilt of his sword. Now, could he assassinate Ahtal, who was completely unprepared?
The sword, was drawn a bit.
"Lord Pross, what’s wrong?" A vigilant voice came from the side. Pross turned his head to see Lola looking at him warily, her hand also on her sword at her side.
Before he could strike Ahtal, Lola’s sword would probably be chopping off his head first.
"I was pondering the gap between Ahtal’s and my strength." Pross pushed the sword back down, looking at Lola’s speechless gaze.
"It’s normal for men to have a strong desire to win."
"A desire to win doesn’t mean losing touch with reality." Lola said, then she stopped paying attention to Pross and focused on the oddity that was attacking.
"That’s why I hate reality." Pross muttered to himself and also focused on fighting off the invading oddities.
Even if he attempted an assassination, it was highly unlikely he would succeed. With Ahtal’s protection granted by the Goddess of Life and the resistance to death given by the Witch of Death, even a critical hit would not immediately result in Ahtal’s death.
...
...
Leaving the battlefield.
Xi Mu arrived at a newly erected church, the Church of the Three Goddesses of Fate, built to anchor the gaze of the Three Goddesses of Fate.
Stepping into the church, there was Suna on her knees, fingers tightly interlocked, devoutly praying to the Three Goddesses of Fate.
Unlike typical churches with just one deity statue, the Church of Destiny had three, representing the Goddess of the Past in the center, flanked by the Goddess of the Present and the Future Goddess.
"Three Goddesses of Fate, do you have any guidance?" Xi Mu stopped, looking at Eden sitting quietly on a bench and said:
"We need guidance from fate now."
"Ahtal, do you also believe in fate?" Eden suddenly asked. Ahtal contemplated for a moment, then sat down beside her.
"I believe when fate favors me," Xi Mu replied. That was his attitude toward fate: to believe when it benefits him, and choose not to when it does not.
Not just in the game.
He thought the same in reality.
"Is that so." Eden nodded gently, her smile faint as she took in Ahtal’s answer, yet not surprised by it.
Geniuses like Ahtal are extremely proud, believing they can hold the future in their hands.
And that usually is... the truth.
"All we need to do is hold out until we reach the Temple of Plague." Xi Mu seemed tiredly to sigh, then as if he thought of something else.
"Can the God of Fear incite fear in the gods?"
"Perhaps it can." Eden nodded slightly, shifting her sitting posture. Her knees, hidden under her skirt, came together, closing the distance a little with Ahtal. She spoke softly:
"But as long as the source of fear appears in the high heavens, it will be immediately sealed by All Gods. They will not give the God of Fear a chance to cause fear among them."
"...Is that so." Xi Mu looked at Eden’s delicate face, his gaze slightly shifting, abruptly changing the subject:
"Eden, I need you to protect Sol next."
"Mhm." Eden responded softly, agreeing to Ahtal’s request, and upon hearing this, Xi Mu did not linger, getting up and leaving the church.
