After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 147 - 39 God of War
Outside the city.
In the mountains.
The Heresy Tribunal had sealed off all the entrances and exits.
"Those rats are hiding in the mountains," Xi Mu said as he walked into the mountains, casually explaining to Sharon walking alongside him, "Just leave it to me to deal with them."
"Sorry, I don’t quite understand your reason for doing this," Sharon expressed with a puzzled look, since the hiding place of the followers of the Dusk Cult had been discovered.
Instead of letting the Heresy Tribunal act, he had chosen to attack the followers of the Dusk Cult alone, even though there were more efficient methods available.
At Xi Mu’s words, he glanced at the sun in the sky. There were still three to four hours left until nightfall, enough time for him to gain some experience points before going to assassinate Bishop Karen.
He withdrew his gaze and looked at the cold nun in black latex beside him, holding a scythe, and explained,
"To ensure that they are completely annihilated and to vent the hatred in my heart, if it weren’t for them..."
His voice trailed off, growing quieter.
Sharon didn’t press further upon hearing this, as she understood Ahtal’s story. If it weren’t for the followers of the Dusk Cult, Ahtal would probably be in the Iris Flower Kingdom now, spending leisurely days with the princess he loved.
Thus, she could understand Ahtal’s hatred toward the followers of the Dusk Cult and his desire to personally execute all of them.
However, the prerequisite was Ahtal ensuring his own safety.
"If you encounter danger, or if I judge that you shouldn’t continue fighting," Sharon said coldly, "I will intervene in your quest for revenge."
"You won’t get that chance," Xi Mu smiled, then drew the Hunting King’s Greatsword and entered a dark tunnel.
Sharon reluctantly followed in Xi Mu’s footsteps, on guard for any enemies that might appear around them.
She had thought that encountering a hero like Ahtal meant no more worries about messy affairs, only to find out that even such a renowned hero had his issues.
...
...
Blood splattered, staining the walls of the cave, as the body of the dwarf guarding the gate fell to the ground.
Xi Mu stepped over the dwarf’s body, his body temperature rising in that moment, like burning charcoal.
"Just a moment," he whispered, then ran his hand over the Hunting King’s Greatsword, igniting black flames, and like lightning, he charged into the battle, showing no mercy in his slaughter.
The swaying Hunting King’s Greatsword resembled a dragon moving among the dwarves, its blade gnawing at them as if it were a vicious dragon.
Where it passed, the bodies of dwarfs turned into torches.
Sharon stood at a distance, observing this scene, ready to activate her power at any moment to move beside Ahtal and ensure his personal safety.
Unexpectedly, she never found an opportunity to intervene, and could only watch helplessly as Ahtal, along with the twelve knights he had summoned, commenced their massacre on the followers of the Dusk Cult.
After a long while, the battle neared its end.
"Spill your plans, and I might spare your life," Xi Mu said, stepping on a struggling dwarf with his sword poised at the dwarf’s throat.
The dwarf suddenly ceased struggling, twisted his neck to meet the gaze of the icy knight clad in silver armor, and his body temperature surged instantly as he sneered,
"Ahtal, you really are pathetic." He sneered, ready to taunt the hero right before blowing himself up.
But just at that moment,
the scythe stabbed down fiercely, its sharp tip piercing his heart, burning him to ashes with black flames before he could detonate himself.
The scythe swirled, and Sharon appeared next to Ahtal, having chosen to strike down the dwarf before he could self-destruct to prevent any harm to Ahtal.
"What a bunch of tough-talking lunatics," Xi Mu shook his head, not minding that Sharon had stolen a kill from him, as it was inevitable. As long as he reaped most of the experience points, it was alright.
To this, Sharon offered comfort.
"Some dwarfs who fled toward the mountain base were captured by our members, and their memories were successfully extracted, confirming they do not know what the Church of Death intends to do,"
she concluded.
"These followers of the Dusk Cult were just meant to create a facade and did not possess real strength."
"Then what’s their reason for doing this?" Xi Mu seemed puzzled, but actually, he clearly knew the answer.
To attract the attention of the Goddess of Death.
In this world, there is a setting that "the living" cannot reach "the dead" in Hell, which was a rule set by the God of Omniscience in the past. Under this rule, not even the All Gods can travel to Hell,
unless the Goddess of Death herself appears, leading the living to the world of the dead.
So, the Church of Death came to stir up trouble in the Black Rose Kingdom, hoping to provoke the Goddess of Death by insulting her followers,
since to break the seal of the Witch of Death, it was necessary to ascertain the boundaries between life and death, thus locating the Witch of Death’s seal.
"No matter what, we must drive out the Church of Death," Sharon expressed her thoughts, unaware of what exactly the Church of Death intended to do.
But as long as all members of the Church of Death were killed ahead of time, any plans would fail.
After all, plans need people to execute them.
"Indeed," Xi Mu nodded, then turned and walked towards the cave exit, but Sharon grabbed his shoulder.
"Let me take you back," Sharon activated her power to perform a spatial move as Xi Mu met her inquiring gaze.
