Chapter 1898: Planning Phase 2 (Part 1)

Meanwhile in Alterra, the planning for Phase two of the new area’s development had already begun.

Implementation might take a while, and not yet the priority, but the outline was already being made, especially since it would go through a huge amount of revisions and the like, going through various departments. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

This would also give them a sort of road map in the town’s future development.

The usual wide avenues would be extended, there would be hotels, motels, and the like per zone. A certain percentage, as always, would be dedicated per zone, especially farming and industrial zones, which were Alterra’s lifeblood.

They would add some more private lease farmland too, to encourage more people to farm on their own, and also to add variety to their produce.

Althea always believed in the value of competition. She did not believe that there was anyone in the masses who could create a thriving farm not inferior to the territory’s. She did not want her own people to be complacent, and she wanted to tap into their potential by giving them the opportunity to shine.

That said, there would probably be specific crops that the town would need, and they would give extra support, like tax reduction and technical knowledge, to the farms supplying them.

The industries, warehouses, and factories would have large parcels dedicated to them as well. However, what was going to be built would depend entirely on what would be needed and what would be discovered in the next year or so.

This world was so new, and there were still so many things to discover. Who knew what would need mass production next year? Neither Althea nor the Golds dared to say for certain.

Other than the farms and industries, there were a few new developments with guaranteed placements. For example, there would be the pet projects that the ministers proposed before. These might be delayed because they were considering creating aether buildings out of a few of them, though which one was still being decided.

This was risky and could waste the little material they had, which was why it was still up for a long discussion.

Another was an auction hall, albeit manually built.

This building would hold important auctions that would be held around once a month. This was to ensure that the number of items per batch was sizeable and this would ensure another injection of tourists to Alterra, ultimately raising the economy even more.

If they turned it into a monthly event, instead of selling the ’big’ items as they appeared, then people could come to Alterra specifically for the auction. It would also cost less labor, marketing, and so on in the long-run, especially when it became well-known, and they could take advantage of word-of-mouth.

The consistency and reliability would also attract richer clients, which would ultimately be advantageous in terms of profit.

It would be modeled after some high-end Auction Halls in Terran, and would sell the especially rare things like certain potions and magic tools. It so happened that Belinda, one of Mathilda’s teammates from the start, was an antique appraiser.

She also had experience as an auctioneer back when she was at her peak. She was the point person and expert for this development.

If the item was from others, then they would need to apply and get their items appraised, and then the hall would just take a 5-10% commission fee, with the 5% being standard for associated territories.

This would have a show money threshold to keep things peaceful and neat, and there might also be items that would require contribution points. This was to minimize the people who just wanted to watch but weren’t planning on buying anything. Further, it would also help them record the participants well, just in case.

For now, they saw that once a month was a good enough rate for them to gather enough things to auction while keeping the items relatively high-end.

They would also have a floor for the silent auctions for things that were too good to carelessly place in a store or a market, but also not big enough to add to the big auctions on the top floor.

Some sensitive items would partly require some contribution points, or at least a record of having enough contribution points. This was in order to prevent the goods from entering the wrong hands, or at least make the process more cumbersome for them.

Examples of these would be special weapons and potions. It wouldn’t be good if these ended up in the hands of enemies, right?

They didn’t have a list of these items yet, of course, but they liked to plan ahead, to define these things early on in the planning stage.

Other than these buildings, there would also be a driving school. For now, it was primarily for broat car driving, but it would be convertible for actual mechanised cars.

Not that they had one yet, of course.

However, the research for things needed was already there—like batteries, energy sources, magnets, and so on. They just needed to create them on a scale and power needed to safely power an entire vehicle. Since cars were only a matter of time, they might as well plan for a driving school.

There was a Transportation department. Ensuring that the drivers using public roads were actually capable and licensed was their responsibility. The exam was actually not easy, and make sure they wouldn’t cause harm to others.

As for whether Broat cars would become obsolete in the future, they probably would not.

First of all, there was an overlap between motorized vehicles and animal-pulled cars because they definitely wouldn’t be able to make so many of the former within the next few years, nor would there be a need to.

They’d probably make buses and public transportation, but having so many private vehicles would just congest the place unnecessarily, and it wasn’t like there were good roads heading to other territories.

They’d develop as needed, but for the next decade or so, its development would have a cap, and it would be one that they purposely placed there. Overdevelopment was a real thing, okay?!
