After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World-Chapter 1897: Virion and Valhalla
Virion never wanted to be the Lord at all. It was just that neither he nor his brother revealed this fact, because then it’d be even more chaotic.
Perhaps more men like their uncle, or his supporters, could appear again, bidding for the lordship that they did not deserve.
It was annoying to still have bugs flying around and speaking for him, but at the same time, it was also why he knew he could not casually reveal his own wishes.
With such a good heir like Virion, and with very few blood relatives with the Lord, if he announced that Virion didn’t want to have anything to do with the position, it was tantamount to destabilising the City’s future.
Virion was literally there just to make sure that there’s someone handling the reins if something happens to his brother, or if he got sick again.
After what had happened the last time, Virion, as free-spirited as he was, did not dare leave casually again.
Then again, when he left before to go on adventures (and was later kidnapped due to his stupidity, mostly), the brothers had trusted their uncle to be the deputy, especially since his afflictions appeared more often and he was often bedridden.
They truly had no clue about his plans. It wasn’t because they were careless. They were a warring territory that had been through more wars than most of their peers. They naturally had their own habits and network of information.
Who’d have thought that their uncle still managed to hide so well despite all that? It could be said that despite not being as strong as Valhalla, the man had a pretty good head on his shoulders.
Of course, that head still ended up in a platter when Virion returned.
Virion was relatively young and was not considered a powerhouse in the city, but he was very skilled and had good control over his elements. Using some secret passages only he and his brother knew, he assassinated the bastard, and with the help of various allies who went to attack from elsewhere, regained control over the palace.
Virion was naturally quite bitter about the betrayal and was also livid about what he had to go through because of his uncle.
Back then, this damned uncle made deals with a few territories and, after tiring Virion out and catching him off guard, used quite a few magic tools to hold him down indefinitely.
It was one of the things he was thankful for Alterra for, despite never having been there before. It was also why Viirion knew he couldn’t leave yet and head there. There were too many things to settle down here, and there were still forces his uncle left behind.
He did ask Alterra to tell them if there was a cure that could reverse the effect of the disease, even if it took years. He refused to believe that his brother couldn’t bear his own children again.
The last time he heard from Alterra, they had been developing cures for the survivors already, but it was much more difficult than the cure they already managed to create. After all, the effects on survivors had already ’set’ and would be difficult to reverse.
He also took this chance to bond with his wives. There were two of them, and he had already put his foot forward that no one else would be pushed towards him. If he were to take a new wife, it would be entirely up to him.
For now, as long as these children grow up wise and well, to be good kids, he wouldn’t be against allowing them good positions in the City when they grow up.
"The bear shows great potential for strength, the avian shows agility for her age," the caretaker said. This caretaker doubled as an early education teacher, teaching them the basics of living a social life and the basics of literacy. He was also there to study the children’s potential. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
While it was too early to be certain, one could see potential fairly early on.
The advantage of Warrior City had always been its strength. It was natural that their main source of value, and the qualities they most elevate, were related to this.
With the late Queen’s movements, the previously ignored functions like benefits, health, and even a bit of education slowly started to develop. The queen only had a couple of decades to do this, so the effects had limits, but it was leaps and bounds of difference compared to the City’s previous state.
Another issue that the Queen had placed attention to, and the King had maintained to a degree, was the care for pregnant women.
Here, just recently, they found an extra use for the bouti plant. A common plant in the orc territory, about as common as Gouji fruit was in the human territory.
If made into wine, it was found to ease the pregnancies of anyone with orc blood.
No matter what the percentage, as long as there was a variation of species involved, there would be extra difficulties.
Something that could ease the women’s pain was invaluable. Of course, it would depend on the woman’s partner and their own strength to receive such convenient things. Since it was not cheap, not everyone could afford it, and not every man would care to purchase it even if they could.
Speaking of half-orc pregnancies, Virion heard some interesting news from Otto.
It seemed like one of their half-orcs got pregnant and wanted some advice. If any other nobleman would ask this, people would think he was possessed. But with Otto, it was unusual, but not entirely surprising.
Otto and Virion had been friends for years, and he knew that Otto’s family were open minded.
There were still plenty of biases happening in areas where there were a lot of foreigners, like in the main markets, but orcblood lived decent lives here regardless.
In fact, during his grandfather’s reign, he went to war a lot in order to balance things. Grandpa was a legitimate half-orc who had climbed up to the top through grit and a lot of fighting with his brothers, who were mostly humans.
It had become his goal to make life better for people like him.
To get more territories to treat their blood better, what better way than to just take over? So that was really what he did, and this was how Warrior City got as big as it was now.
