After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me-Chapter 203: I’m Pregnant (Part 7)
Because Lucy Eaton was in a coma, she was spared the pain. Also, because she hadn’t been given anesthesia, she woke up particularly quickly, regaining consciousness just as the poison was being administered.
The voices of Arthur Bennett’s subordinates were heard near her ear.
"This is a deadly poison; she surely won’t survive."
"If she does survive, that would truly be a miracle. Let’s not waste time—let’s dispose of her body quickly."
"Hmm, what about the ring on her hand?"
"It’s a diamond ring, definitely worth a lot of money. After we’ve handled this, we’ll report back to His Highness and let him decide."
"Alright."
The so-called deadly poison had no effect whatsoever on Lucy Eaton’s body, but how could they have known that the poison couldn’t kill her?
Her legs ached as though they were broken bones, and her complexion was as pale as paper. Even as the pain tugged at her nerves, she refused to utter a sound.
After all, if she wanted to stay alive at this critical juncture, she had to endure it.
She was put onto a helicopter. With her eyes constantly closed, she didn’t know where she was being transported, only that a considerable amount of time had passed before hearing those two men’s voices again.
"To prevent the body from floating up, tie her to a sandbag filled with stones and throw her overboard."
"Okay."
The man’s hand reached over, and Lucy Eaton held her breath. He said with satisfaction, "Dead as a doornail."
Due to the excruciating pain in her legs, Lucy Eaton could imagine being utterly unable to stand now, let alone fight back against those armed men.
She could only let them manipulate her. The bag of stones was tied to her back, heavy and awkwardly pressing down.
Her arms were also tied tightly together.
Once everything was in place, she was pushed out of the helicopter by the two men. Lucy Eaton suddenly opened her eyes, only to see the shimmering, endless sea below.
She desperately struggled to free herself from the ropes, but even as she fell into the water, she still couldn’t break them.
Lucy Eaton’s body quickly sank, seawater continually pouring into her stomach. She felt she couldn’t breathe.
At that critical moment, a strong pair of hands grabbed her arm and pulled her upwards.
She didn’t know who this was, but she had been forced to swallow a bellyful of seawater, her breathing was about to stop, and her chest was heaving intensely.
The will to survive fiercely urged her not to give up.
She hadn’t yet avenged herself.
She couldn’t die like this.
In the instant she surfaced from the water, she looked up at the moon in the sky, her eyes brimming with tears.
The heavy stones were still strapped to her back. If the hand holding her were to let go, she would still not survive.
She coughed uncontrollably and, once her breathing steadied, she turned to see the person next to her and the speedboat.
It was a man, but his face was obscured by the water night-vision goggles he was wearing.
He dragged her toward the speedboat, expending nearly all his strength to get her on board.
She didn’t understand; upon reaching the edge of the boat, why hadn’t he untied her, why did he not simply cut the ropes instead?
"Promise me one thing, and I’ll save you. If you don’t agree, as I pulled you up, I’ll push you back down. By this time, in this place, as you can see, if I don’t help you, you have no way but death."
"Speak."
She was entirely convinced that if he threw her back down, she would surely die. Now, nothing mattered more than her life.
"I want you to stay by my side for five years. During these five years, you are not allowed to contact anyone who knows you as Lucy Eaton, including your parents."
"My primary profession is a neurosurgeon, my secondary is a funeral director, what can I do for you?"
"Weren’t you once disguised as a man to be Emma Bennett’s bodyguard? Just be my bodyguard, but I won’t have you disguise yourself as a man. I’ll give you a new identity. Moreover, you can be my housekeeper, my attendant; there are plenty of things you can do."
He actually knew she had once disguised herself as a man. Who on earth was he?
"Unwilling?"
"No, can you tell me why you know I disguised myself as a man..."
"I saw you when you were abroad with Emma Bennett; I was staying at the same hotel."
"Isn’t five years too long? My family is very worried about my safety."
"To me, five years is not long at all. If possible, I’d want to buy out your entire lifetime."
"I still have things I must do, very important things."
"I’m not unreasonable. I’ll give you time to do them."
Lucy Eaton’s stomach churned, and she vomited, expelling most of the seawater. Her mouth tasted incredibly salty.
Just now, her legs were in unbearable pain, but in that brief moment, the pain lessened as if she lost feeling, and she was struck by a sense of panic.
At this moment, she had no other choice.
"I agree with you. Do you have mineral water?"
He handed her a bottle of water.
Lucy Eaton twisted off the cap, took a few sips, swished her mouth, and drank half of it. It wasn’t because she was thirsty, but because the substance concentration in seawater was too high, and she needed fresh water to dilute it.
"How did you happen to save me? Who exactly are you?"
He took out scissors, cutting her ropes as he replied, "I didn’t just happen to save you. My people have been keeping an eye on Arthur Bennett and discovered you being taken onto the helicopter by his subordinates. We deduced their destination based on the helicopter’s flight direction and prepared a speedboat. As for my name... I’m Elliot Gill."
He removed the night-vision goggles from his face, revealing a visage partially shrouded in moonlight. Lucy Eaton looked at him, astonished, "You... are the newly appointed CEO of Palmer Corporation?"
"Yes." His eyes were dim, as he had anticipated; she had forgotten him entirely.
"Mr. Gill, my legs were hit by over ten bullets and now have no sensation. I don’t know if they’re to be crippled?"
He started the speedboat, but instead of heading toward the shore, it moved forward.
After a few minutes, Lucy Eaton saw a well-lit luxurious ship in the distance.
This ship was clearly Elliot Gill’s.
When they got closer, he carried her sideways onto the boat.
He brought over a large medical kit, "You’re a doctor; it has all the necessary medicine. Handle it as you see fit; I don’t know much about it."
"Could you please step out for a moment?"
"Sure."
When he stepped out, she removed her wet clothes entirely. Her once slender legs now resembled a beehive, bullet holes one after another.
After soaking in seawater, the inflammation was quite serious.
Sitting on the bed, she cleaned her wounds herself, tightly biting her lip as she applied medication and dressed them amid pains when disinfecting with the solution.
After dressing, Lucy Eaton pulled the sheets over her and wrapped them around herself, tying them into a makeshift dress.
"Are you ready?"
"Yes."
Elliot Gill came in, glanced at the clothes on the floor and then at her makeshift sheet dress, a slight smile tugging at his lips, "Creative."
