Chapter 23: The Battle Line Has Been Drawn

KALIA

"What were you thinking coming here, Kalia? How dare you try to hook up with my half brother when we just got separated not too long ago?"

"Don’t you have any shame left Kalia? Are you that desperate? What sort of problems are you trying to create for me?" Callum attacked me while I just remained quiet watching him hurl insults at me.

I knew that he wouldn’t be able to resist coming here to find me. He was so predictable that I almost found it hilarious.

The fact that he even came all the way here just to question my dignity says a lot about him when in real sense, he was the one who cheated on me with my stepsister.

"If you wanted money then you should’ve asked for it." He went on. I can’t believe that he had said that about me but I wasn’t surprised either.

"I would’ve given you everything you wanted so that you would leave my life for good. You didn’t have to come this far and stoop this low Kalia because it only tells on how shameless you are as a person."

I chuckled at his words.

"Are you done?" I asked but he arched his brows at me instead.

He must’ve been thinking that he would just come all the way here to rile me up but too bad he drove all the way here for nothing.

I had given up on him a long time ago so him doing this doesn’t really faze me at all. I had long accepted defeat when it came to this man and nothing on earth would change that.

"What?"

"Are you done ranting and yelling like a child or should I let you continue until you feel better about yourself?"

He looked away with a scoff. His eyes darted at me and I saw the dangerous glint of anger that shone in them. He wasn’t happy.

I’m pretty sure that Celyn had worked her magic by spilling lies about me which was why he took it upon himself to come all the way here.

I expected him to do better but then again, what more can I expect from a man who blatantly rejected, murdered and dumped me to be with my stepsister?

"You shouldn’t have come here Callum." I said to him. My face twisted in a defiant grin.

"You should’ve stayed back home to console your family and probably plan your future with Celyn. It’s pointless coming here especially if you only did so just to tell me this rubbish."

"Kalia—"

"What did you call me again?" I interrupted him before he could speak any further.

"Shameless and desperate? Am I really the desperate one Callum or is it the man who went out of his way to drive all the way down here just to accuse me of something because he knows just how badly it would affect him if I actually went through with it?"

"How shameless can one be Callum because if I were to rate your shamelessness right now, it would be off the charts." Crossing my hands over my chest, I faced him head on.

"Did you really think that you would come here to trash talk me after everything you did and make me feel guilty and sorry for myself? Did you really think that I’m still that pathetic woman you once got engaged to?"

He looked away, his eyes unable to meet mine.

Under all this male bravado that he had on, the only thing I could see was a desperate, shitty lowlife trying so hard to climb the fence.

I can’t believe that I was once married to this man.

I must’ve been out of my mind to think that this man was some kind of god because I literally worshipped the ground he walked on but he was nothing but an empty shell about to crack open.

"You got engaged to me Callum because you wanted to use me get closer to my stepsister and elevate your status in your pack."

"Do you think that I don’t know why you wanted to get married to me? You wanted to ruin my life and leave me to suffer alone." I said, jabbing my hands at his chest in anger.

"I can’t believe that I almost lost myself in the process of trying to prove to you and your family that I could be a good wife but you didn’t think about that, did you? No." I answered on his behalf.

"You went ahead to do the unthinkable by cheating on me with my stepsister so what right do you have to come here and talk about me being shameless when you are nothing but the embodiment of that said word?!"

"Answer ME!" I yelled at him.

"He won’t love or accept you Kalia." He commented. "Darren will never love you. Just like I did, he will use you until there’s nothing left. You will regret even doing this not only to me but to yourself."

"If you were at least this caring to an extent when we were engaged then I would’ve at least forced myself believed you a little." I mocked him openly.

"Darren and I are together now. We’re going to get married and there’s nothing you can do or say that’ll change my mind. He loves me as much as I love him and in our relationship, that’s all that matters."

I turned to leave but he seized my hands and pulled me towards him.

"Whatever you’re trying to do, whatever motive you have that’s driving you to do this will never work Kalia. I promise you that you will loose woefully and my family will never accept a worthless Omega like you to be a part of them."

"Now, that’s the man I got engaged to." I whispered with a smirk. "Thank you for showing me your true colors under that mask you tried to hide behind."

My lips twitched into a half smile. "Besides, I haven’t even started yet and you’re already this scared?"

"Please, save it for when I actually start executing my plans Callum because I will make sure that you loose everything you have just like I did." I threatened.

"You will grovel on your knees in front of me and beg for your life but I won’t give it to you. Your whole life will be useless and there will be nothing but shambles left in its place. Mark my words."

He held onto my arm a little tighter, applying pressure to his grip as his jaw clenched into a tight frown. I struggled but he refused to let go. He was hurting me but he didn’t stop.

"Is that a threat, Kalia? A common slave like you dares to threaten me?" He growled in rage, eyes flaring up in dismay.

"Who gave you that right? The only reason you were able to come this far in the first place was because of me!"

"It hurts doesn’t it? I bet it hurts to know that the same man whom you have been competing with all your life chose me despite everything and I’m sure it hurts you to know that Darren might succeed over you as well."

"Karma is such a bitch isn’t it?" I said, provoking him to anger.

He raised up his hands to hit me. I flinched and immediately braced myself for impact but Darren stepped in just in time to shield me from his outburst.

He instinctively held my hands and pulled me behind him so that Callum wouldn’t hurt me.

"Don’t you dare lay your filthy hands on her, Callum." He gritted through clenched teeth as he faced him squarely. The battle line finally being drawn between the two of them.
