After Rebirth, I Took Revenge On My Scumbag Ex-Alpha Mate!-Chapter 16: Use Me As Much As You Want
KALIA
I groaned weakly and tiredly snapped my eyes open to adjust the rays of sun passing through them from the curtains.
It took me a brief moment to realize that I wasn’t in my bedroom.
At first, I panicked but I was able to calm myself down when it dawned on me that I was in Darren’s mansion, his bedroom to be precise and not somewhere entirely unfamiliar.
So that means, last night wasn’t a dream. I had indeed followed him here after striking a bargain with him to help me out. Everything that happened so far wasn’t my imagination but reality.
"Good morning." I heard the familiar voice of Darren from the other end of the bedroom. I sat up straight to face him, my blurry eyes slowly clearing up a bit.
He was seated on the couch with a pile of papers littered everywhere and from the look of things, he must’ve been working all through the night.
"How did I end up here? On the bed?" I questioned. The last thing I remembered was passing out on the couch after we had finished talking because I was too nervous to sleep on his bed when he had asked me to.
And seeing the scattered sheets with different files on the couch, it only meant that he slept there and not with me on the bed.
"I carried you there myself last night after you fell asleep." He informed me. "You weren’t comfortable sleeping on the couch and since you were too stubborn to listen to me, I had no choice but to do what I had to do."
"Did you sleep well?" He asked, not giving me a chance to counter his last statement before taking a sip of coffee and placing it back on the table.
I nodded my head in response. "I honestly haven’t slept this much in a while but I can’t say the same about you though, seeing that you’re surrounded with lots of papers. Did you even sleep at all?"
He breathed out and rubbed his eyes tiredly with a yawn. "Barely. I have a lot of work to finalize since I’ll be staying back here in the country so I had no choice but to pull an all nighter." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Kate was right. He is a workaholic. No wonder he was preferred and loved more by his father over Callum who loved when things are handed down to him easily without working or putting in the effort.
Aside being the first son, he possessed certain qualities which must’ve made Callum very upset to the point of not liking him; to the point of his father choosing Darren over him.
Maybe this was the reason why he never spoke about him in my previous life that we were still married to each other. He was scared of being compared to his competent brother.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked, snapping out of my reverie. Eyes fixed on me, staring at me with intent. I can’t believe that I had zoned out on him.
"I’m sorry." I apologized when it dawned on me that he was in this mess because of me.
If I hadn’t made that proposition, he probably would’ve left the country by now, not bothered by me or my business and it made me feel a little guilty.
"Don’t be." He cut me off. "Life happens and sometimes it goes beyond our control. Will you be going back to your parent’s house today?"
"Yes." I answered, pushing the covers to the side so that I can get out of bed.
"They probably have a lot of questions that they would love to ask me. Plus, I have to inform them of our relationship and possibly our marriage that might happen very soon."
I liked the fact that things aren’t as awkward between us as they were the first time we spoke.
Despite his status, I was able to talk to him without getting scared that he would get upset and lash out at me. Everything between us felt natural like we weren’t even strangers at all.
In a way, I liked it because then, it would be easier to fool people about the real status of our relationship.
"Aren’t you upset?" I blurted out of the blue, gaining his attention.
"Aren’t you upset that I’m using you? Don’t you feel bad that I’m only using you to get back at my family and your stepbrother? Doesn’t it bother you at least?"
"It doesn’t." He said. "I’m not upset at all because it has nothing to do with me in the first place. It’s your fight and not mine."
"I understand your anger. You’re using me to get back at those people who hurt you, those people who made you feel less of yourself, those people who turned their backs on you when you needed them the most so why should I be upset?"
"Plus, it’s business isn’t it? And it’s not like you’re hurting my family. You’re simply getting revenge on yours so if you look at it, I’m not affected or losing either way."
"But Callum is your family." I went on. "Like it or not, he’s your half brother. Your father’s son so I would definitely understand if you’re upset that I’m using you to get back at him."
Standing up from his seat, he carefully pushed the files and papers that he was working on to a side before approaching me. He stopped just a few inches away from me.
"Listen Kalia, I don’t mind okay? Even if Callum is my brother, there’s no excuse for what he had done to you, for how he had hurt you so feel free to use me as much as you want. I’m not complaining."
I casted my eyes down with a nod of my head. "Thank you, Darren. I honestly can’t thank you enough for doing this. You might not know this but you’re actually an angel in disguise. Thank you for coming to rescue me when I least expected it."
"I will pay you back when the time comes, I promise."
