After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 70: Enemies Cross Paths
"Mom, this kind of test report can be faked. Don’t believe her." I quickly took the paper away.
My mom nodded numbly and then tried to leave, but the next moment she fainted.
"Mom!"
After I sent my mom to the hospital, she was quickly rushed into the emergency room. After some check-ups, the doctor told me that my mom had arrhythmia.
At the tea restaurant earlier, she must have been quite upset by Susan Adler.
Fortunately, my mom’s condition wasn’t too serious. She just needed to stay in the hospital for a few days and then take good care afterward.
In the single patient room, I looked at my mom who was already asleep on the bed, feeling terrible. In her last life, she endured these things without telling me, suffering so much alone.
I wasn’t a good daughter. Thankfully, heaven gave me a chance to make amends.
Unconsciously, I also fell asleep, only to hear voices from next door. A man was yelling, "I don’t need to be hospitalized, why have surgery! You guys are just worrying blindly and wasting money!"
The voice sounded familiar, but I was too lazy to get up and look, so I just turned over and continued sleeping.
"Mom, I’ll go buy some breakfast for you." The next morning, after washing up, I told my mom and went out to buy some food.
Passing by the single-patient room next door, I saw some familiar faces.
Azure Vaughn and Laura Lawson were standing around the hospital bed, with Walter Vaughn lying on it. The family was chatting.
"Madam!" Laura spotted me sharply and walked out happily. "Why are you here too? Are you not feeling well?"
"Auntie Lawson, you’re no longer working at my house, so you don’t have to call me madam, just call me Zoe," I smiled slightly, but my gaze was on Azure.
Azure also smiled and walked out, "Miss Hathaway, I didn’t expect to meet you here. Earlier my mom said she worked as a servant at your house, which I found very surprising!"
My smile became even kinder, "Yes, we’re quite fated. What’s wrong with your father?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Walter also seemed to recognize me; I’m the unfortunate one who was knocked unconscious by his brother. So, he looked a bit embarrassed and quickly withdrew his gaze.
"Heart disease, needs surgery," Azure looked back at her father.
"Is it that serious?" I was a bit surprised, "Is there anything I can do to help?"
Laura said, "Zoe, you’re very kind. Thank you for your offer, but Azure found a friend to help. We’re currently okay."
I sneered internally; it seemed Henry Preston rushed back late at night for this matter, didn’t he?
Azure looked at me with the same gentle smile, but her eyes were no longer as innocent as before.
Unbeknownst to her, she considered me a rival, but I didn’t care at all because my plan was to wait for Henry to propose a divorce.
"Alright, Auntie Lawson, I’ll go buy breakfast for my mom. Her heart isn’t feeling well, so she’s in the hospital," I politely greeted, waved to Laura, and turned to leave.
When I reached the elevator, I waited expressionlessly for the doors to open, only to see Ivan Underwood appear in front of me.
He wore a white coat, holding a medical chart, and his eyes were cold and detached as always behind those scholarly gold-rimmed glasses.
Seeing me, he frowned, "What are you doing here?"
"My mom is sick," I was surprised too, "Why are you back?"
"Ended the exchange early," Ivan walked out of the elevator, standing in front of me, "What’s wrong with Auntie?"
I told him about my mom’s heart condition, and he nodded, "Yes, people with heart issues need to pay extra attention to rest. Emotions also matter greatly."
"I know. Okay, Dr. Underwood, you can go on with your work." I glanced unconsciously towards Walter’s room.
I wondered when Ivan would fall for Azure. Logically, he must have had several encounters with her and should be moved by now, right? With Walter’s hospitalization and surgery under his care, they’d have frequent interactions, surely sparking some romance.
However, I realized I might be a bit devious. Ivan had no grudges with me; why did I keep wishing him to plunge into a love trap?
Truthfully, I just wanted trouble for Henry.
After buying breakfast, I passed by Walter’s room again, only to find Ivan hadn’t left yet and was talking to some people. Noticing me at the door, he glanced my way.
I quickly moved my feet and left.
After my mom finished breakfast, my dad arrived. Learning my mom fainted from anger and was hospitalized, he was full of guilt. Upon entering the room, he slapped himself twice and swore he had nothing to do with Susan Adler, insisting it was all a setup.
Quietly, I exited the room; it’s better for the couple to talk privately about their issues.
At the stairwell, I sent Henry a message: My mom is hospitalized.
This time, he replied quickly: Give me the address.
I sighed; feeling Henry’s quite busy. He had to arrange surgery for his mistress’s father, provide financial support, and also visit his mother-in-law in the hospital.
Yet, the two were in adjacent rooms.
"What are you doing here?" Ivan’s voice sounded from behind. Turning around, I saw him standing at the stairwell door.
"Nothing, just getting some air," I replied.
"Walter’s surgery costs about forty thousand, did you know?" he asked.
How would I know? He’s not my dad, I responded coldly, "I don’t know, what does it have to do with me?"
Ivan actually laughed and walked down several steps, leaning against the railing as he spoke to me, "Marital property is half yours."
Meaning it’s Henry’s money.
A child’s play; Henry would spare no expense for this little white flower, and Ivan in the future would thoroughly experience such madness.
I countered, "So, you’re suggesting I go ask Azure for it back?"
"That would be fine," Ivan nodded.
"Fine, my foot!" I cursed at him and plopped down on the steps, muttering, "Wasn’t your demolition just finished? Why is Henry supplying money?"
The demolition funds Walter had should be enough for several surgeries.
Ivan informed me, "They bought a new house with the demolition funds, it’s all used up."
It turns out he wasn’t discussing the illness earlier; he was gathering intelligence. I thanked him sincerely, smiling up at him, "Thanks for enlightening me."
Compared to Henry and Azure’s situation, I was more worried about things with Susan Adler. I asked Ivan to help arrange a caregiver for my mom while I figured out how to deal with that vixen.
Ivan didn’t refuse, only requested me to return the cat to him when I could.
Leaving the hospital, I set off to find my strategist Crystal Dawson; when it comes to this, her ideas are surely better than mine.
After hearing about my dad, Crystal looked serious, "That vixen wants to enter your home and become your stepmother."
"I thought she wanted money, but she suddenly threw out a pregnancy test report," I sighed, "Now I need to figure out a way to get the negatives from her and confirm whether she’s pregnant."
