After Rebirth, I Accept The Arranged Marriage-Chapter 169: Backing Up His Wife
Victor Morgan: "I’ll give Lynch a call."
Jessie Sterling couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Victor Morgan pointed a finger at her playfully but didn’t say anything. He just took out his phone and called Roman Lynch right in front of her.
Roman Lynch had just returned from his morning workout and was a little surprised to get a call from Victor Morgan.
"Morgan? What’s up?"
Victor Morgan rarely called him at this time of day unless it was for something important.
Victor Morgan cleared his throat. "Yeah, I need a favor."
"Oh? Go ahead."
"It’s about Nina Walsh," Victor Morgan said.
Roman Lynch: "...What did she do now?"
Even though it was just a voice on the phone, Jessie could practically imagine the look on Roman Lynch’s face on the other end. It probably wasn’t a pleasant one.
She was a little surprised. ’Last time I saw him, Roman Lynch seemed so concerned about Nina Walsh, even putting her before his own sister.’
’But from the sound of it, was there some friction between them now?’
On his end, Victor Morgan quickly summarized the request Jessie had received. "...and that’s pretty much the situation. If you decide to get involved, the Hudson family might not be too happy about it."
It’s a crude saying, but it holds true: you have to consider the owner before you beat their dog.
"You’re overthinking it." Roman Lynch sighed on the other end of the line. "I never planned on sticking up for her or anything. Nina Walsh called me earlier, wanting me to deal with Cheryl Stuart, but I refused."
Jessie mouthed the word "wow." ’It’s not that I want to kick her while she’s down, but I’m no saint. Hearing that Nina Walsh got shot down by Roman Lynch... it’s a pleasant surprise. That’s not too mean of me, is it?’
"It’s not like she didn’t know what the industry was like before she got into it, but she insisted on going behind her family’s back. She’s very headstrong. We can’t control her. Besides, what Serena told me the other day really sank in. At the end of the day, she’s not really family, so why should I overextend myself? Why should I try to manage every little thing for her and always have her back?" Roman Lynch said.
Victor Morgan was momentarily at a loss for words. He hadn’t intended to get into such a deep discussion about Nina Walsh with Roman Lynch. But who knew that once Roman started talking, he’d completely break from his usual character and become a chatterbox, just like Xavier Warren.
"...Is your wife there with you?" Roman Lynch suddenly asked.
"Yeah," Victor Morgan said.
"I’m sorry," Roman Lynch’s voice came through the phone. "Nina Walsh already caused you two trouble last time, and now it looks like she’s about to again. I’m truly sorry."
Jessie hadn’t expected things to go this far. She gave a dry laugh. "That’s Nina Walsh’s business. We don’t have any personal grudge against each other, so there’s no need for you to apologize."
’Besides, I already fought back on the spot for everything Nina Walsh did to wrong me. She’s not worth dwelling on.’
Roman Lynch seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "Still, I admit I didn’t handle things well before either."
Victor Morgan picked up the phone and turned off the speaker. ’Everything’s been said and done, why does Jessie need to keep chatting with Roman Lynch?’ He said, "Let’s catch up another time," to the man on the other end and promptly ended the call.
Jessie rested her head in her hand, thinking. ’From the sound of it, Roman Lynch wants to draw a clear line with Nina Walsh from now on. Could it really just be because of that incident at the hot spring? I doubt it. After all, you’d get attached to a cat or a dog if you’d raised it for ten or twenty years. One mistake shouldn’t be enough to make Roman this disappointed in her.’
"What are you thinking about?" Victor Morgan asked, seeing Jessie staring into space with her chin in her hand.
Jessie shook her head. "Nothing."
’She couldn’t be bothered to ask Victor about it. He wasn’t one for gossip, so asking would be pointless anyway.’
"July is next month. Are you going to the fall/winter fashion shows in Paris? I happen to have some business there, so I could go with you," Victor Morgan said.
He knew that before Jessie married him, she loved going to all sorts of fashion shows every year. ’I bought Apex to make her happy, but unexpectedly, it just made her busier, leaving her with no time to go out and enjoy herself.’
That was why, even though July would be hectic, he planned to carve out some time during his business trip to spend with Jessie.
’I can’t have her marry me just for her social life to become even more dull, can I?’
Sure enough, as soon as Jessie heard this, her eyes lit up.
"Really? You’ll have time?"
She had received her invitations a while ago, but considering her work schedule and the fact that Lynn Jennings, who used to go with her, probably couldn’t make it this year, she had slowly let the idea go.
But the moment Victor brought it up, Jessie was immediately intrigued.
Victor Morgan: "I’ll definitely have time to go to the shows with you."
Jessie’s eyes lit up. "It’s a deal!" She held her hand up to Victor for a high-five.
Victor Morgan: "..."
’Such a childish gesture...’
SLAP—
Victor Morgan high-fived Jessie.
After breakfast, Jessie went to her art studio with her drawing board. Her manga was still being serialized, and she was keeping up a relatively stable update schedule.
「By July」, filming for *Glory* was more than halfway complete and going smoothly overall.
Jessie wasn’t too worried about the show’s ratings. After all, Yvonne Rhodes was the original author, and she had been on set for nearly the entire filming process.
The series had been greenlit in a hurry, but its quality was by no means inferior.
Whenever a novel or manga gets a screen adaptation, the fans’ biggest fears—and the usual reason for boycotts—are drastic changes to the plot and casting that doesn’t fit the original characters, right?
But for this project, the casting director had sought actors who were as faithful to the manga as possible. The makeup artists even referenced the characters’ facial structures from the manga to style the actors.
And with Yvonne Rhodes always on set, there was no need to worry about the plot. An author’s love for their own creation was the best guarantee.
She didn’t mind if filming was slow. Jessie had only one requirement for the production team: the quality had to be superb.
This was the first project she had chosen after taking over Apex Films, so naturally, her expectations were high.
Jessie wanted to start off with a bang.
After confirming that there were no pressing issues at the company that required her attention, Jessie and Victor Morgan boarded a private jet to Paris the next day.
Victor Morgan had to work even on the plane, so Jessie didn’t disturb him. She just curled up on one of the massage chairs, scrolling through her phone.
The *Glory* production team had been making some small waves online recently. With summer vacation in full swing, a young fan had gone to the film studio hoping to spot some celebrities and had accidentally snapped a photo of one of the *Glory* actors leaving their hotel.
The fan didn’t recognize the actor but thought the costume and styling looked incredibly well-made, so they posted the photo online to ask about it.
