Chapter 60: Chapter 60: The Quinn Manor

Nina Jacobs dug the Wind Element Crystal Core out of the zombie’s brain.

The surface of the Wind Element Crystal Core was a faint silvery-white, unlike the red of a Fire Element Mutation Crystal Core. Silver-white was the representative color of the Wind Element.

But she also noticed her Earth Spike had only shallowly pierced the mutated zombie’s head.

"It’s still a bit weak since it’s my first time using it,"

Nina Jacobs sighed.

’Looks like I need to practice more.’

After leaving Rivermouth Pier, Nina Jacobs found she had to take a detour through a mountain road.

It was just after lunchtime and she hadn’t eaten yet, so Nina Jacobs simply pulled her car over to the side of the road.

She took a still-warm container of fried rice from her food storage compartment and started eating in the car.

City D didn’t have any particularly high mountains, so the road ahead was relatively open.

As she ate, Nina Jacobs zoomed in on her system map. It showed a private manor up ahead.

Taking this road meant she would have to pass by that manor.

Nina Jacobs remembered that the manor was the Quinn Group’s territory.

The Quinns had made their fortune in the wine business, so it wasn’t surprising they owned a manor.

After finishing lunch and drinking a hot latte in the car to perk herself up, she slowly started the engine again.

Just as the map had shown, she didn’t have to drive far before several buildings clustered together on a hillside came into view.

The buildings were enclosed by a low wall made of limestone. A black, wrought-iron gate faced a winding driveway that led up the hill.

That must be the private manor from the map.

But Nina Jacobs hadn’t expected to find a row of roadblocks placed on the road ahead.

The barricade wouldn’t be hard to move; she just had to get out of the car.

There were several other cars by the roadside.

They had clearly been stopped by the barricade. The cars were empty, and some of their doors hadn’t even been closed.

’Where did the people in the cars go?’

Nina Jacobs was immediately on high alert.

’It’s highly likely the occupants ran into trouble when they got out to move the barricade.’

There were no bloodstains on the ground nearby.

’So, who took them?’

Nina Jacobs hesitated to get out of the car.

She activated "Five Senses Enhancement" and, sure enough, she heard whispering nearby.

Someone was waiting for her to get out.

"Interesting."

Pretending she didn’t know anything, Nina Jacobs got out and walked toward the barricade.

"She’s out. It’s time!" a strange man said in a low voice.

"Just let her go."

Another voice seemed to be trying to stop him.

Nina Jacobs could hear both voices, but the second one surprised her a little. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

’Does he want to let me go?’

"No way. If we’re discovered, we’ll die a horrible death."

"It’s just the two of us right now. No one will find out if we let her go."

"She’s a woman! If you won’t grab her, I will!"

Immediately after, a sharp voice barked from behind the hillside.

"Stop!"

Nina Jacobs slowly turned around.

She curiously sized up the two men who had appeared on the hillside to her right.

Both men were holding guns and wearing security uniforms. This kind of uniform might give some people a sense of security, but Nina Jacobs knew they were just private guards.

’They’re probably just working for someone. They won’t actually shoot me.’

"This is a private road up ahead. You can’t pass," said the shorter of the two guards.

"Since when did this become a private road?"

Nina Jacobs could tell this was the man whose voice had insisted on stopping her.

The taller man behind him had a faint look of anger on his face.

"Just go. Don’t listen to him," the man said bluntly.

"Wayne Warner! If you want to die, don’t drag me down with you!"

"And you, come with me! Or I’ll blow your head off!"

The shorter guard seemed to be losing his patience.

"Where to?" Nina Jacobs asked.

’If I just kill this short guard, I can leave.’

"Someone’s inviting you to be a guest, of course."

Another voice drifted down.

Looking up from her position, Nina Jacobs saw a dozen or so figures appear on the hillside. The man in the lead, who had bleached blond streaks in his hair, was staring at her maliciously.

Without exception, they were all holding weapons.

"Quinn Manor?"

There were no other buildings around, so these people must be from the manor.

That included the two guards from before.

"Oh, you figured it out?

What are you waiting for, then? Our Mr. Quinn is throwing a party. Come on and join us."

The man with the blond hair jumped down and was about to grab Nina Jacobs.

"Don’t touch me. I’ll walk on my own."

Nina Jacobs calmly locked her car and walked up the stone steps along the path at the side of the road.

"You’re a sharp one. Saves us the trouble.

And a beauty, too. Mr. Quinn will be very pleased,"

Blondie said with a malicious grin.

’Mr. Quinn? From the Quinn Group?’

As she walked, Nina Jacobs tried to recall what she knew from her past life. She didn’t seem to remember hearing about any important figures with the surname Quinn.

As she passed the two guards, Nina Jacobs clearly saw the anger on the face of the one named Wayne Warner.

The manor’s main gate slowly swung open.

It was Blondie’s Superpower.

He was a Gold Element Superpower User.

"Let’s go."

Seeing Nina Jacobs looking at him, he smiled and made an inviting gesture.

A foul stench assaulted her nose.

Because her "Five Senses Enhancement" was still active, Nina Jacobs quickly heard the roars of zombies coming from inside the building.

And the sound of a human begging for mercy.

She was led into an elevator. The building was three stories high.

As the elevator slowly rose and the doors opened, she was met with the sound of loud laughter and deafening music.

The lights were blindingly bright.

They illuminated blood splattered on the tile floor, making the scene before her all the more grotesque.

ROAR!

The roar of a zombie, accompanied by a woman’s scream, came from below.

Nina Jacobs then realized that the third floor where she stood was like a viewing platform.

On the platform, several people were shouting excitedly. Below, a young girl was being chased by a few zombies.

The girl was completely naked.

Forced to dodge the lunges and bites of several zombies.

Perhaps not wanting the girl to die too quickly, the zombies were all chained to a stone pillar in the center of the hall.

But the chains were long, and the girl had to constantly dodge.

Otherwise, she would be torn to shreds.

Terror and despair filled her face.

"Please, I’m begging you, let me go."

The girl pleaded incessantly.

"Oh, a newcomer has arrived."

A man holding a wine glass noticed Nina Jacobs, who had been brought in by Blondie.

His face beaming, he offered her a glass of red wine.

"My name is Seth Quinn. What’s yours?"

"Nina Jacobs."

"Nina Jacobs? That’s a great name.

Hahaha, brothers, this beauty’s name is Nina Jacobs, and she’s here to join our party today!"

Seth Quinn shouted.

A few whistles were directed at Nina Jacobs. She looked at the men on the platform with their excited eyes, and at the silent women beside them, and couldn’t help but frown.

She was starting to understand why the guard, Wayne Warner, had wanted her to leave.

These people were taking pleasure in toying with others’ lives.

Wayne Warner must still have some conscience left.

She scanned her surroundings.

She saw that besides the few people on the platform, the entire perimeter of the third floor was lined with thugs in security uniforms.

They held firearms, their muzzles aimed forward.

It felt as if she’d be shot into a sieve the moment she made a wrong move.

"Finally, a new one.

I was getting tired of the one down there."

After a portly, middle-aged man spoke, the others around him laughed and chimed in with agreement.

"Come, come, let me explain the rules of the game to Miss Nina Jacobs."

Seth Quinn pushed Nina Jacobs to the center of the viewing platform and pointed at the young girl in the middle of the hall below.
