After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 195: The More You Sell, The More You Have
This was a tenfold dilution of the Healing Potion. It wasn’t that she was a profiteer.
Rather, it was a formula she’d developed after a series of experiments.
The formula’s hemostatic effect wasn’t bad, it just didn’t heal wounds as quickly.
The price she set was also just 50 regular Crystal Cores for a small vial.
"Can I buy a few more vials?"
Fern Spencer asked.
But Claire Warner shook her head.
"There’s a limit of one vial per person."
She did this to prevent people from hoarding large quantities of the hemostatic spray.
"Alright, I’ll just take one then."
Fern Spencer understood the reasoning; good things couldn’t be in unlimited supply.
Fortunately, although the spray vial was small, it could be used many times.
After all, bleeding out in the open was a death sentence.
As long as it could stop the bleeding, it was life-saving medicine.
"By the way, that blondie named Keith Dempsey is probably one of Hugo Crawford’s men."
Fern Spencer said before she left.
"Who’s Hugo Crawford?" Nina Jacobs asked, confused.
"You don’t even know who Hugo Crawford is?"
Seeing Claire Warner shake her head, Fern Spencer was at a loss for how to explain.
"Then you must at least know about Daniel Hale, the Spiritual Element Superpower User in our shelter, right?"
Sharon Thorne chimed in.
"...I know a little about him."
Nina Jacobs was surprised.
’How is Uncle Hale involved in this?’
"Hugo Crawford used to be on the rescue team. Once, when he and Daniel Hale were on a mission and ran into danger, he just up and abandoned him."
"Luckily, a few other Superpower Users happened to pass by and rescued Daniel Hale. The whole incident caused a huge uproar at the time, and Hugo Crawford was stripped of his position."
Fern Spencer explained.
’Something like that happened?’
Nina Jacobs frowned. She’d never heard Daniel Hale or Vera Coleman mention it.
’It must have happened while I was in City J.’
"Anyway, the point is that Hugo Crawford is not a good guy.
He’s formed his own team now. Probably because his Superpower is strong and he used to be a rescue team captain, a lot of people have joined him."
As Fern Spencer was explaining, they could hear someone knocking impatiently on the door outside.
"Right. And Fern is warning you because those guys you beat up the day before yesterday afternoon also work for Hugo Crawford."
Sharon Thorne added.
"I understand. Thank you both."
Nina Jacobs made a mental note of it.
After that, a few more groups of customers came to the little shop.
Nina Jacobs was pleasantly surprised to find her system was ready for an upgrade.
However, she decided to finish the day’s business first.
The door of the tin shack was pushed open again.
A young man with a head full of bleached-blond hair walked in alone.
"Heard you sell everything here?"
Keith Dempsey sized up the inside of the tin shack, then looked at Claire Warner.
"Not everything. Depends on if I have what you’re looking for."
Nina Jacobs didn’t look at him again, instead pushing a price list across the table.
"My name’s Keith Dempsey. Nice to meet you?"
Recognizing that he was trying to get chummy with her, Nina Jacobs looked up.
"If you’re not buying anything, I’ll have to call in the next customer."
Rebuffed, Keith Dempsey had no choice but to ask in a low voice,
"I just heard Fern Spencer mention that you sell medicine here?"
"What kind of medicine are you looking for?" Nina Jacobs asked.
’This guy looks shifty. He’s probably not up to any good.’
Sure enough, Keith Dempsey gave a sly chuckle.
"You know, that kind of medicine... an aphrodisiac, something to get a man’s blood pumping..."
Seeing the color drain from Claire Warner’s face, Keith Dempsey quickly added,
"Or something that can make a person fall asleep would work too.
Price is no object."
A large bag of Crystal Cores was placed in front of Nina Jacobs.
Nina Jacobs said coldly,
"I only sell regular medicine for treating illnesses here, not what you’re looking for."
’I do have some of that stuff in my storage space, things I just happened to pick up.’
’But I have no intention of selling it.’
"I can pay more. To be honest, my superior ordered me to find this stuff.
I’m not the one trying to hurt anyone."
Keith Dempsey tried to explain.
"Your superior must have some interesting hobbies,
but I don’t have what you’re looking for."
"It’s not for him! My superior is getting it for someone else.
Don’t go spreading rumors."
Keith Dempsey hastily clarified.
"Oh? Is that right."
Nina recalled Fern Spencer’s words. This was almost certainly Keith Dempsey looking for drugs for Hugo Crawford.
Seeing that Claire Warner didn’t sell what he wanted, Keith Dempsey had no choice but to buy some other supplies first.
"By the way, I might have some connections,"
"I could ask around for you."
Nina Jacobs said, pretending to think.
"Really?" Keith Dempsey perked up immediately.
"But you’ll have to tell me what it’s for."
Nina Jacobs was trying to fish for more information.
"I definitely can’t tell you that.
I can only say it won’t kill anyone. At most, it’ll just ruin a few reputations."
Keith Dempsey thought for a moment, willing to reveal only that much.
"Good enough. If I get my hands on some, how would I contact you?"
Nina Jacobs asked.
Keith Dempsey thought for a moment, then leaned in close. "My friend works at window number 3 in the Superpower User Registration Office.
Just go there and tell him you’re looking for Keith Dempsey, and you’ll be able to get in touch with me."
"Got it."
’Even though I didn’t get the answers I wanted, it’s clear this Keith Dempsey really has connections.’
’Or rather, Hugo Crawford’s connections?’
’But Hugo Crawford was already kicked out of the rescue team...’
Nina Jacobs thought for a moment but decided to keep this matter in mind.
The tin shack was soundproof, so people outside couldn’t hear the conversation within.
Keith Dempsey had confirmed this from the outside before daring to discuss such things with Claire Warner.
In his eyes, Claire Warner was just a Space Superpower User with a few connections.
Meanwhile, Fern Spencer’s advertising was a great success.
Throughout the afternoon, Nina Jacobs sold dozens of vials of the hemostatic spray.
Just as she was about to close up shop and retract the safe house, the system sent another notification:
[Detected that the host’s current actions will lead to the rescue of 36 humans in several days. Triggering the "Selfless Savior" title. Reward: 36 vials of "Healing Potion".]
’Selling supplies can save people?’
Nina Jacobs suspected this was a direct result of her selling the hemostatic spray.
So, the more she sold, the more Healing Potions she would get.
’It’s a truly virtuous cycle...’
There was still some time left in the day, so she decided to go to the base and check things out.
The road leading to the base had been cleared and was remarkably clean.
Driving her SUV, Nina Jacobs soon arrived outside the base.
"Nina Jacobs? You’re back?!"
A somewhat familiar voice called out. Nina Jacobs turned to look, a hint of surprise on her face.
Timothy Renner and his group hadn’t expected to see Nina Jacobs here either.
"Renner, you all are..."
Nina Jacobs realized that besides Timothy Renner, almost everyone from the abandoned construction site in City J was present.
They were all wearing matching orange vests.
Nina Jacobs recognized the vests; only volunteers participating in the base’s construction wore them.
"Heh heh, thanks to you, we’ve all found jobs at the base now,"
Timothy Renner replied with a smile.
After they had parted ways at the abandoned construction site in City J,
they had followed the map Nina Jacobs gave them and managed to find the City D shelter without too much trouble.
Although they lost a few people along the way, it was the best outcome they could have hoped for.
Later, following Nina Jacobs’s advice, they signed up to help with the base construction.
This life was much better than lazing around at the abandoned construction site.
"I’m so glad you all made it here safely,"
Nina Jacobs said sincerely.
"Are you here for the lottery, too?"
Eve Lewis asked.
"I’m just planning to go in and take a look."
Nina Jacobs said a temporary goodbye to the group.
Myra Lawson had already given her the keys to three apartments.
If she wasn’t satisfied with them, she could look at others.
