Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Pretense

After the two of them left, Phoebe Vance and the others entered the pharmacy.

When he saw the floor littered with empty medicine boxes, Shiloh couldn’t help but curse out loud.

And when Phoebe Vance saw that the only things left on the shelves were birth control products, her face immediately turned red with anger.

"Just take them," Finn Hart said.

"Can’t you see? This is a blatant insult." Jane Dixon finally understood the meaning behind the knowing smile Nina Jacobs gave before she left.

Seeing this, Phoebe Vance could only swallow her anger and collect the items from the shelves.

Meanwhile, Nina Jacobs had already sped away from the area.

Her targets for the day were missions 24 and 25.

The two missions were located close to each other.

Besides, she didn’t want to run into Finn Hart’s group again.

Mission 24 was a Three Stars mission.

Mission 25 was Four Stars.

Mission 25 was at a supermarket on the basement level of a shopping mall.

After using the Little Zombie Rat to lure the zombies out of the supermarket, Nina Jacobs quickly cleared the place out.

Just as they were preparing to leave the supermarket.

With her Five Senses Enhancement active, Nina Jacobs suddenly heard the sounds of fighting outside.

’Someone’s here?’ Nina Jacobs had a bad feeling.

It sounded like quite a few people had arrived.

"...Damn, there are so many zombies here."

"Holden Shaw just led some of them away, but I can’t believe there are still this many."

"What if there are no supplies here?"

"Impossible. Even if the supplies on the upper floors have been taken, there’s still a big supermarket down here."

"..."

Listening to the conversation from outside the mall, Nina Jacobs couldn’t help but think.

The system said the supplies in this underground supermarket would be depleted within two days.

’Does that mean these people are the ones who will take them?’

But no matter what, she had to find a way to get out of the underground supermarket first.

Nina Jacobs led Wayne Warner back to the underground parking garage.

But it seemed there were people outside the garage as well.

"...Holden... you’re back? How did you get hurt?"

"Don’t tell me you were bitten by a zombie!"

"He’s injured! Everyone, stay away from him!" 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"Isn’t it normal for me to get injured? This is just from being hit by an icicle from a mutated zombie," a man said in a sarcastic tone.

"How can a zombie use ice? You must be lying..."

"What’s there to lie about? This is the second time I’ve seen a zombie form an icicle."

"Stop talking! Zombies, lots of zombies!"

"..."

The sounds of fighting erupted again.

But Nina Jacobs knew he wasn’t lying about the mutated zombie.

’So where did he see it the first time?’

Zombies were now flooding into the parking garage as well.

Just as Wayne Warner was about to charge forward and kill the zombies, Nina Jacobs stopped him.

"Let’s hide first," Nina Jacobs said.

Wayne Warner tilted his head, seemingly confused, but he still followed Nina Jacobs into a car.

Inside the underground supermarket.

Jonathan Thatcher was cursing up a storm.

They had finally cleared the zombies outside and rushed in.

To their surprise, the place had been completely cleaned out.

Serena Singer, a Space Superpower User standing to the side, rolled her eyes.

"I’ve told you before, don’t call me over until you’ve actually found supplies. If something happens to us Space Superpower Users, who can afford to take responsibility?"

"Sigh, looks like another wasted trip. Let’s just head back early," another Space Superpower User said.

"There are still some supplies upstairs, just not very much. And we lost a few people getting them," said Wilder Stone, who was in charge of communications.

"Thatcher, someone’s been found in the underground parking garage!"

A man came running over and shouted.

"Someone? Who is it?"

Jonathan Thatcher immediately became alert.

’Could it be the people who took the supplies?’

But when the group rushed over, they only found a severely damaged sedan parked there.

A man and a woman were talking with Holden Shaw.

"Who are you?" Jonathan Thatcher asked.

"Thatcher, they were also chased in here by zombies. They’re Fire Element and Strength Element," Holden Shaw immediately explained.

"Chased in here?"

Jonathan Thatcher opened the sedan’s trunk and found a lot of medicine inside.

Many of the medicines had been removed from their boxes.

It seemed to be a way to save space in the car.

’Looks like they’re really not Space Element.’

"What’s with all this medicine?" Jonathan Thatcher asked, directing his question to Wayne Warner.

However, Wayne Warner seemed to ignore him completely.

"We found a pharmacy on Qianjin Road this morning. We don’t have a space ability, so we put everything in the car," Nina Jacobs explained.

She had already put her SUV into her storage space.

This car was one she had found in the garage and was using temporarily.

"You’re a Fire Element Superpower User?" Jonathan Thatcher asked with a nod.

"Yes." A flicker of flame appeared in Nina Jacobs’s palm.

Meanwhile, Wayne Warner lifted a nearby junked sedan with one hand.

"Not all there in the head, but he’s got some real strength."

Jonathan Thatcher slapped the muscles on Wayne Warner’s arm and laughed heartily.

"Since our guy saved you, you should come with us. It’ll be safer that way. What do you think?"

Jonathan Thatcher looked at the two of them.

His tone left no room for argument.

It was as if his people would execute them on the spot if Nina Jacobs refused.

"Alright. He did save us," Nina Jacobs said, pointing at Holden Shaw.

She agreed to join because she wanted a chance to ask about the Ice Element Zombie.

"That settles it, then. Singer, come take all this medicine. The brothers get injured every day, so this will come in handy."

Jonathan Thatcher pointed at the medicine in the trunk and called over to Serena Singer as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

"Well then, it would be rude to refuse."

Serena Singer walked over to the trunk of the junked sedan with a smile, and with a wave of her hand, slowly stored the medicine in her space.

Nina Jacobs’s expression didn’t change.

She had already stored away the useful antibiotics and nutritional supplements.

That included Wayne Warner’s medicine.

"Before you came here, did you see anyone else?" Jonathan Thatcher asked, having remembered something.

"Anyone else?"

Nina Jacobs pretended to think back.

"We did see a group of people coming from the west this morning, but not on this road. It was over on Qianjin Road," Nina Jacobs replied.

The expressions on Jonathan Thatcher and his people changed instantly.

"It must have been them!" someone shouted indignantly from the side.

"How many people did it look like?" Jonathan Thatcher asked.

Nina Jacobs shook her head. "I’m not sure, but there were definitely over two hundred. Maybe more."

"That many? Could it be those people from the so-called Superpower User Alliance again?" someone asked from the side.

Nina Jacobs raised an eyebrow.

’So The Alliance really has come to City J?’

"Dammit, everyone wants to come to our territory and get a piece of the pie."

The moment Jonathan Thatcher finished speaking, someone ran down from the garage entrance shouting:

"Thatcher, more people are here! A lot of them!"

"This place really is a honeypot, attracting so many people. I’d like to see who it is this time."

Jonathan Thatcher led his group and headed up.

"How about I take you to a car to rest?" Holden Shaw asked.

Nina Jacobs was a young woman with a mentally unstable brother by her side.

They had just escaped from the jaws of zombies, only to have their supplies taken by Jonathan Thatcher.

’This world is just too harsh for a woman...’

"Okay, thank you for the trouble."

Nina Jacobs, however, had no idea what Holden Shaw was thinking.

She wasn’t interested in the conflict outside; she only wanted to find out from Holden Shaw where he had seen the Ice Element Zombie.
