Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Seeing Wyatt Sterling Come Out of Her Room

Before Alice could even figure out what he meant, Julian Dalton’s car was already gone.

’Why did he say it’s a good thing I’m not a Sterling?’

Back at the hotel, Alice took Silas Sterling to his suite first. Silas proactively took out his medication. "I’m taking my medicine on time every day now," he said. "I haven’t missed a single dose."

Alice hummed in response.

Silas took the medicine and immediately opened his mouth for Alice to see. "I swallowed it all. And look at my hands—no hidden pills."

Alice stared, a little stunned.

She remembered how Silas used to refuse his medication, sometimes hiding the pills between his fingers and pretending he’d swallowed them. Without the medicine, his episodes became more frequent and severe.

He was definitely much more responsible about it now.

"Alice, don’t worry. I’ll be good about my medicine from now on. I don’t want to hurt anyone anymore." Silas’s tone was full of guilt. ’These are the emotions of a rational person.’

Alice didn’t say anything. After Silas finished his medicine and went to sleep, she returned to the adjoining suite.

It had been a long, trying day, and she’d been feeling a little off. She’d barely sat down for a moment before she felt something wasn’t right. A quick trip to the bathroom confirmed it: her period had started.

’It’s finally here. At least I don’t have to be on pins and needles anymore. But I have to learn my lesson. No matter how heated things get, I have to remind him to use protection. I don’t think my heart can take another scare like that.’

After her shower, she went straight to bed.

It was almost eleven. Just as she was drifting in a hazy sleep, her phone rang.

She glanced at the caller ID: Wyatt Sterling.

Alice really didn’t want to answer, but she was afraid it might be something important. After a moment’s hesitation, she picked up. "Third Uncle."

"Open the door."

The man was curt, wasting no words.

Alice lay motionless in her bed with no intention of getting up. She reminded him, "Third Uncle, you have the wrong door. Miss Lancaster’s suite is 8122. You should check the room number."

The man seemed to be in a good mood. "I might go to the wrong door, but would I also call the wrong number?"

"..."

"I’ll count to three. Get up and open the door."

"..."

’He’s actually counting! Unbelievable.’ Grudgingly, Alice got out of bed to open the door for him.

When the man came in, he brought a chill with him. His coat was draped over his arm, his shirt half-tucked and half-out. He looked relaxed and at ease, with none of the sharp, unapproachable air he had during the day.

He closed the door behind him with one hand, while the other reached out, pulling her into his embrace. She tried to break free, but he said, "Don’t move," and then leaned down to kiss her cheek.

Alice smelled alcohol on him.

’He’s been drinking. No wonder.’

"Brought you a late-night snack." He moved the coat draped over his arm, revealing two bags in his hand.

A strong smell of curry hit her nose. Alice furrowed her brow. He said, "Curry fish balls. The most authentic ones can only be bought in Washington."

’I can’t imagine the look on his face tomorrow when he sobers up and remembers this—coming back in the middle of the night with two bags of snacks wrapped in his coat, getting the smell of curry all over it.’

"Try some." He opened the bag.

Alice couldn’t stand the smell of curry and shook her head, saying she didn’t want any. Wyatt Sterling didn’t get angry. He then opened the other bag and said in a soft, coaxing voice, "The pineapple bun doesn’t have a strong smell. Want to try it?"

An idea sparked in Alice’s mind.

She knew he was more agreeable after drinking. At times like this, he was also more approachable. No matter how she teased him, he wouldn’t get angry.

Alice put the two bags of snacks on a cabinet, then pulled him over to sit on the sofa. "I’ll go get you a glass of water."

He didn’t let go. With a tug of his wrist, he pulled her onto his lap.

"Third Uncle," she called softly.

Wyatt Sterling buried his face in her neck. "Why aren’t you eating? Don’t you like it?"

Alice said, "I don’t usually eat this late." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Wyatt Sterling’s voice was a little hoarse. "Not even one bite?"

Alice’s heart melted. "I’ll eat it in a bit. Do you want to take a shower? I’ll go run the water for you."

"No rush." The arm around her waist tightened.

Alice lay quietly in his arms, her mind filled with a greedy fantasy. ’How wonderful would it be if I could be by his side openly and legitimately?’

’But unfortunately, the woman who gets to stand openly by his side will never be me.’

"What are you thinking about?" He seemed to be able to read her mind.

Alice tilted her head back to meet his gaze and asked, "Since you brought Miss Lancaster, why didn’t you go find her?"

Alice’s face was reflected in Wyatt Sterling’s dark pupils. He curled his lip into a smirk. "Do you want me to go find her?"

Alice lowered her eyes, her expression dimming. "You shouldn’t have come."

The next second, Wyatt Sterling lifted her straight off the sofa. His arm strength was astonishing; he didn’t waver in the slightest. Alice clung tightly to his neck. "You’re still drunk. Put me down."

"You have so little faith in me?" Crinkles appeared at the corners of his eyes as he held her and strode toward the large bed.

Alice guessed what he was about to do and kicked her legs. Wyatt Sterling ignored her struggles, tossed her onto the bed, and then leaned down, pressing his body flush against hers.

Suddenly, Alice stopped struggling. ’She knew he would stop eventually. It was better to let him figure it out on his own than to waste her breath trying to stop him.’

"Why so obedient all of a sudden?" Wyatt Sterling propped himself up on an arm beside her head, his fingertips gently caressing her cheek.

Alice gave a nonchalant smile. "It’s not like I’ve ever successfully resisted you anyway. Why bother struggling and exhausting myself for nothing?"

Wyatt Sterling thought she had really become obedient. He lowered his head to kiss her. As things grew heated, his face darkened.

Alice held back a smile. "Why did you stop, Third Uncle?"

Wyatt Sterling pinched her chin and kissed her fiercely until her face flushed red before letting go. Then he got up and went to the bathroom.

’Alice lay on the bed, gasping for breath. His kiss had been fierce, but it was also passionate. If it weren’t for his incredible self-control, they really would have crossed the line.’

After a while, the bathroom door opened, and Wyatt Sterling came out wearing a bathrobe.

For a man his age, he had broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and abs. Droplets of water he hadn’t dried trickled down the contours of his muscles, looking incredibly sexy.

’Alice had assumed Wyatt would leave after his shower. After all, he only ever came to her for sex, and since she was on her period, there was nothing they could do.’ But to her surprise, he didn’t leave. He lay down beside her and pulled her into his arms.

She tried to turn over, but he held her down firmly. A warning fell upon her ear: "I just spent forever putting out that fire. If you light it again, you can put it out with your mouth."

Alice instantly went still.

The rest of the night was peaceful enough.

「The next day.」

When Alice woke up, the pillow beside her was already cold. She didn’t know when Wyatt Sterling had left. The two bags of late-night snacks he had brought back last night were still on the cabinet, untouched.

Hearing a knock, she went to open the door. "Silas, you’re up so early."

"We need to leave soon if we want to be early for the Churchill Family’s. Are you ready, Alice?" Silas seemed quite eager about the visit, perhaps because he hadn’t been there in a long time.

"I need to change, so it might be a little while." ’She had just woken up; she hadn’t expected Silas to be in such a hurry.’

But Silas looked puzzled. "I just saw Wyatt coming out of your room a moment ago. I thought you were already up, Alice."

Alice’s face changed. She was instantly so nervous she could barely form a sentence. "You... you saw... saw Third Uncle coming out of my room?"
