Chapter 185: Chapter 185: Wyatt Sterling Helps Alice York Leave

Alice York came out of the room and walked slowly, just as she normally would. Hurrying would only draw attention.

But then, she suddenly stopped.

She felt as if a pair of eyes were staring at her from behind...

Alice steadied herself and slowly turned around. When she saw Nathan Sterling standing not far away, her heart sank.

"Are you leaving?" Nathan asked calmly.

He hadn’t been hiding at all; he had been waiting for Alice to notice him.

Alice had no intention of telling the truth, even though Nathan was on her side. "It’s too stuffy inside. I wanted to come out for a walk."

Her voice was so hoarse that her words came out muffled.

Nathan clearly didn’t believe Alice’s excuse. He walked over, tilted his head up, and asked again, "Are you leaving the Sawyer Family?"

Alice pressed her lips together, responding with silence.

Just then, Nathan pointed at Alice’s hand. "You have a lot of blood on your hand."

Hearing this, Alice raised her hand to look. She hadn’t pressed down on the injection site after the IV needle was removed, and the medical tape was completely soaked in red. Blood was spreading along the lines of her palm.

She hadn’t even realized she had bled so much.

She pressed down on the blood-soaked tape. "I didn’t notice. It’ll be fine if I just apply some pressure. It’s nothing."

Nathan turned his face away, his tone full of awkwardness. "When you told me to behave, I guessed you were going to leave. I’m not trying to stop you, and I won’t tell them you’re leaving the Sawyer Family. I’m just worried you won’t be able to leave smoothly. If anyone tries to stop you, I can help."

When she heard this, the tip of Alice’s nose suddenly tingled.

She had actually guessed as much, but she never expected to hear Nathan say it out loud.

He was an extremely reserved child who never voiced his thoughts, nor was he good at expressing himself. He would always silently do what he thought was right, even if it meant being misunderstood by everyone.

"You should go." Sensing Alice’s emotions and not wanting to see her cry, Nathan urged her on. "I’ll follow behind you until you’ve left this place."

"Okay."

With Nathan behind her, it would be easier to leave the Sawyer Family estate.

Besides, Alice was sick. No one would expect her to leave the Sawyer Family, and no one was watching her.

"Didn’t you call a car?" Nathan looked around but couldn’t see a car waiting to pick Alice up.

Alice said in her hoarse voice, "It’s not convenient to get a car from here. I’ll walk a bit farther and then call one."

But Nathan was very worried about her health. "But your cold is really bad."

"I know my limits. It’s fine." Alice didn’t want to waste any more time. "You should go back."

Nathan said, "You go first. I’ll head back after you’ve left."

Alice couldn’t dissuade him, and with time being tight, she had no choice but to leave first.

But just as she turned, she heard Nathan call out—

"Alice."

Alice stopped in her tracks and looked back at Nathan.

Nathan said, "Safe travels."

Alice nodded, then turned and left.

Nathan stood in the same spot for a long, long time. Only when he could no longer see Alice’s figure did he turn to go back.

"Nathan, Nathan."

Nathan was walking with his head down when he suddenly heard someone call his name.

He looked up and saw his older sister, Rhea Sterling, walking briskly toward him.

"Nathan, have you seen Alice? I heard she was sick. I just went to look for her, but no one was in her room."

Rhea asked as she approached.

Nathan averted his gaze from Rhea and kept walking with his head down.

"Hey, Nathan, did you not see her?" Rhea persisted, following him.

Nathan said, "How should I know where she is? You’re asking the wrong person."

That tone, that attitude...

So uncaring, so unconcerned...

’I really did ask the wrong person,’ Rhea thought to herself. How could she have forgotten that Nathan and Alice had never gotten along? Even if he knew where Alice was, he probably couldn’t be bothered to tell her.

"Well, I’ll just keep looking myself then."

Rhea changed direction and continued her search for Alice.

「Meanwhile.」

Mason Cheney reported the news of Alice’s departure from the Sawyer Family estate to Wyatt Sterling immediately. The report also included the fact that Alice was sick.

After finishing his report, Mason quietly awaited Wyatt’s instructions.

With a soft CLANG, a cup fell to the floor. In the darkness, the man slowly stood up and walked barefoot toward the floor-to-ceiling window.

The lights in this room had been off since yesterday afternoon. Only a sliver of an opening in the curtains allowed a few weak rays of light to filter in.

SWISH. The curtains were pulled open.

Wyatt Sterling stood with his back slightly hunched, his hand touching the glass. Looking down from the thirty-sixth floor, the people coming and going looked as small as ants.

"Third Master, should we stop her?"

Mason Cheney asked, having walked up behind Wyatt.

Wyatt closed his eyes and slowly lowered his head. "Help her leave Arden smoothly."

"Yes, sir."

Mason acknowledged the order.

He went to make a call and give instructions: any vehicles or people who tried to obstruct Alice were to be driven away to ensure she could board her flight smoothly. He then dispatched a few more people to the airport to stand guard, just in case anything unexpected happened.

After arranging everything, Mason returned to find Wyatt still in the same position, standing quietly before the window.

"Third Master, you haven’t slept all night. You should go lie down and rest for a while. As soon as Miss Alice has safely boarded the plane, I’ll inform you immediately."

Mason said.

When he came last night, the Third Master had been sitting on the sofa. When he came again this morning, the Third Master was still sitting on the sofa, visibly exhausted.

Wyatt raised a hand, flicking his fingers backward.

Mason understood. It was a gesture for him to leave.

He didn’t press the matter and had no choice but to withdraw.

The room fell silent once more.

Sunlight streamed in, brightly illuminating the room.

Wyatt slowly opened his eyes. They were filled with crimson veins after a sleepless night.

By now, Alice was already in a car on her way to the airport.

The driver had noticed her hand when she got in and kindly asked if she needed to go to the hospital to get it treated. Alice said no. Along the way, she kept looking at her phone, silently counting down the minutes.

She had bought a ticket last night for a 9:20 a.m. flight this morning. She had calculated all the timings; if she rushed there now, she wouldn’t have to wait. She could board right after clearing security. Everything was perfectly timed.

Finally, she arrived at the airport.

Alice paid the fare, got out of the car, and ran inside, racing against every second. She went to the airport restroom to wash the blood off her hand, then went to the check-in counter to get her boarding pass. Next was security.

There were six passengers in line ahead of her. Alice had no luggage, only a phone and her ID, so getting through security would be quick.

Seeing that it was almost her turn, Alice’s anxiety finally eased from the moment she had first entered the airport.

’As long as I get through security, I can board the plane soon.’

’I can finally leave Arden.’

At this thought, the corners of Alice’s mouth couldn’t help but slowly curve upward.

"Please stand here," the security officer said.

Alice stepped onto the platform. The security officer then performed the routine scan with a handheld detector. After several seconds, the officer gestured for her to proceed.

Alice breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to retrieve her phone, she was suddenly stopped by a staff member. "Excuse me, please show your ID again."
