Alice York felt like she’d been struck by lightning.

’It’s done. How am I going to explain this...?’

"Alice, why do you look so guilty?" Zoe walked over to her. "Be honest with me. Is there some kind of secret between you and Wyatt?"

Alice swallowed nervously.

She and Zoe had known each other for a long time, and she was well aware of her friend’s personality. Though usually carefree, Zoe’s mind would become incredibly sharp whenever she stumbled upon something baffling, and she would then gradually unravel the truth.

Figuring it out was only a matter of time.

Alice averted her gaze, the words hesitating on her lips. But remembering the promise she had just made to Wyatt, she ended up lying. "What secret? Don’t make wild guesses. He’s my Uncle."

Clearly, Zoe wasn’t so easy to fool. "Then why did Wyatt come to see you? I know your situation with the Sterlings all too well, so think carefully before you answer."

Alice had her answer ready. "He was just passing by."

Zoe wanted to roll her eyes. "If you said anyone else from the Sterling family was just ’passing by’ to see you, that might be plausible. But the person who was just here was Wyatt Sterling!"

Alice was stunned.

’That’s right. It was Wyatt Sterling.’

A VIP whose name alone was enough to make people keep a wide berth.

Zoe could see it now. Alice was intentionally hiding something from her, and there was no point in pressing her further.

"That assistant wouldn’t let me get a single step closer," Zoe said, changing the subject. "I finally waited until the door opened, and when I saw the look on Wyatt’s face, do you know how panicked I was? I almost thought he’d murdered you in there."

"What..." Alice was lost in words.

After she spoke, Zoe finally noticed the large red patch on Alice’s chin. Her expression changed instantly. "No way. Did your Uncle really hit you?"

Alice noticed Zoe’s gaze and subconsciously raised a hand to touch her chin.

"He hit you in the face?" Zoe was about to lose it. "He actually hit..."

"It’s okay, Zoe." Alice knew Zoe would worry herself sick if she didn’t explain. "I scratched it myself."

Zoe kept a straight face. "And you expect me to believe that?"

Alice said, "Believe it or not, you have to do that anyway. With an aura like my Uncle’s, sitting right in front of me, you think I wasn’t scared? I was so nervous I kept scratching my chin. If he’d left any later, I probably would have scratched it raw."

She said it so convincingly.

Zoe was silent for a moment, then reluctantly believed her.

After all, it was Wyatt Sterling. Who wouldn’t be intimidated?

"Oh, Alice, you’ve been through so much..." Zoe hugged Alice, her face full of sympathy. But then she suddenly remembered something and quickly let go. "But let’s get back to it—who’s the scumbag who made you think you were pregnant?"

"..."

"It’s not that Dr. Sawyer, is it?" Zoe guessed wildly.

Alice was genuinely impressed by Zoe’s imagination. "Don’t let Dr. Sawyer hear you say that. He’s our hospital’s most eligible bachelor. There’s a line of girls waiting to date him."

"With that deadpan face of his... give me a break."

Zoe was about to press for more details about the scumbag when, as luck would have it, her phone rang.

She pulled out her phone, and the corner of her mouth twitched when she saw the caller ID. "I’m doomed. It’s my grandma, nagging me about another blind date."

Alice asked, "Didn’t you say the blind date was rescheduled for another day?"

The last time, Alice had to suddenly return to the Sterlings’ residence, so she’d had no choice but to cancel on Zoe after promising to accompany her. The blind date itself had then been canceled for some reason, and she remembered Zoe telling her on What’sAPP that it was rescheduled for another day.

But she hadn’t said which day exactly.

"My grandma was in such a rush she scheduled it for tomorrow. She’s afraid I’ll miss out on this blind date with some guy named Young Zane. She even said there’s a line of girls waiting to meet him and that he’s such a great catch you couldn’t find another one like him even with a lantern." Zoe had a miserable look on her face.

Alice: "So, do you want to go?"

Zoe shook her head. "No, but my grandma’s disease..."

Zoe didn’t finish the sentence, but Alice understood. Two months ago, Zoe’s grandma had been diagnosed with late-stage cancer. The old woman had no other wish than to see her most beloved granddaughter settle down and start a family.

Zoe was a dutiful granddaughter. She had always hated blind dates, but to fulfill her grandmother’s wish, she had no choice but to join the ranks of those going on them.

"Go on, answer your phone," Alice said, patting her on the wrist.

"Okay."

Zoe got up, walked over to the blinds, and answered the phone. "Grandma..."

"Don’t you forget to go to the blind date tomorrow... Wait, Check this out." On the other end of the line was not only the old woman’s vigorous voice but also the sound of poker cards flipping together.

"I might..."

The old woman said,"I know exactly what you’re like. I can smell your excuses a mile away. You are not fooling me this time. Even if it’s raining knives tomorrow, you have to... Four aces... you have to go."

Zoe broke out in a sweat. "Don’t worry, Grandma, I’ll go. I’m hanging up now, don’t want to interrupt your game."

"Wait, I’m not done talking." The old woman added, "That Young Zane is one of your younger uncle’s students. I’ve specifically asked your uncle to vet him for you, so he’ll be there tomorrow too."

Zoe’s eyes widened. "What? My younger uncle is going to be there too?"

"Check this out! Hahahahaha, I won! I won!"

"Grandma?" Zoe called out.

’BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP...’

"..."

Putting her phone away, she returned to the bedside. Alice noticed Zoe’s expression was a little strange and asked if she was going tomorrow.

Zoe snuck a glance at Alice’s face as she spoke. "My grandma said that this time, the blind date is one of my younger uncle’s students."

Alice noticed Zoe peeking at her. "Is there something else you want to say?"

"Alice, you should come with me tomorrow," Zoe suggested immediately.

Alice thought for a moment. "I basically took sick leave today, so tomorrow I might..."

Zoe pressed her hands together. "I’m begging you."

Alice’s resolve immediately softened. "Alright, I’ll take one more day off. It’ll be a good chance to rest up anyway."

’The pressure on her lately had been immense, dealing with Mindy Vaughn and then Old Master Sterling. It would be good to use this sick leave to recover.’

Lost in these thoughts, Alice didn’t notice the meaningful smile on Zoe’s face.

The next day...

While Alice was making breakfast, she got a call from Zoe. "Alice, you have to dress up really nicely today and help me make a good showing."

"Uh..." Alice didn’t quite understand. "It’s your blind date today. If I dress up too nicely, aren’t you afraid I’ll steal your thunder?"

"I’m more afraid you won’t steal my thunder."

"What..."

Although she didn’t understand Zoe’s logic, she took her advice and took care in getting ready.

A long spring cold snap was just around the corner. Alice had always been sensitive to the cold, so she didn’t dare dress too thinly, not even for the sake of looking pretty.

When she was ready and came out with her bag, Zoe, who was waiting by the car door, saw her, and her eyes nearly popped out of her head. "Alice, you should just pack up and debut as a celebrity. It’s a real shame for that face of yours not to be a star."

Alice grinned from ear to ear. "Are you going to bankroll my debut?"

"With a face like that, who needs to spend money? Your beauty would go viral in minutes!" Zoe opened the passenger door for Alice. "Your Highness, if you please."

Alice got in. "Your mouth is dripping with honey this morning."

Zoe got in after her, chuckling slyly. "Alice, actually, there’s something I didn’t tell you yesterday..."

Seeing Zoe’s shifty expression, Alice had a bad feeling. "What is it?"

Zoe hemmed and hawed. "I didn’t tell you yesterday... my younger uncle is also going to be there today."

Alice raised an eyebrow. "So?"

Zoe cleared her throat. "Just forget about that scumbag. Starting today, I’m hooking you up to my younger uncle."

Alice understood immediately. "So, today isn’t just your blind date. You want to set me up on a blind date with your younger uncle?"
