After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 86: Quite Like a Clown
A phone call from Claire Mercer swept away Adrian Sutton’s gloom.
His spirits soared as he made his way to the supermarket.
He’d thought Claire had forgotten all about coming for his housewarming.
After all, her recent media war with the Sinclair and Mercer Families had been incredibly intense.
He hadn’t expected her to still remember.
He was both pleasantly surprised and deeply touched.
Today would be Claire’s first time at his place.
He wanted to personally shop for her favorite foods and cook them himself.
On the way, he called Silas Rowan.
"What’s up, my dear Young Master Adrian? What do you need this time?" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"Get to the supermarket downstairs from my place. Now."
"The supermarket? Why?"
"Cut the questions and just get over here."
Silas tsked, hung up, and left immediately.
A little over ten minutes later, he pulled up to the supermarket.
Twenty-something minutes later, Silas Rowan was standing at the entrance to the supermarket, both hands clutching heavy shopping bags.
He looked just like an errand boy hired to lug groceries.
Silas Rowan’s face was a mask of misery.
’To think that I, the dignified young master of the Rowan Family, have been reduced to being his grocery boy.’
Silas couldn’t wrap his head around it.
"Adrian Sutton, don’t you think you’re being a little unreasonable?"
He never imagined his cousin had called him over purely to act as a grocery mule.
’And to think I drove like a maniac to get here, practically flying over.’
’Only to end up being his eager little grocery boy.’
’I feel like a total clown.’
He felt his own behavior was utterly ridiculous!
Adrian Sutton shot him an irritated glance.
"You should be grateful. I’m the one cooking today."
"You can’t expect to do nothing, just show up to eat, and enjoy a meal I’ve prepared as if you’re entitled to it, can you?"
Silas was speechless.
"You think I’m dying to eat your cooking?"
"Are you sure you don’t want any?" Adrian Sutton stopped and turned to look at him.
Silas found it hard to withstand Adrian Sutton’s condescending gaze.
"Fine, I’ll humor you."
A cold smirk touched Adrian Sutton’s lips.
"No need to force yourself. You can always choose not to eat."
Silas choked on his words. "Why are you taking this so seriously? I’m carrying the groceries like a good boy, aren’t I?"
"Good, you know what’s what," Adrian Sutton said, nodding in satisfaction.
Silas: "..."
He’d thought he could finally catch a break once he got the groceries to Adrian’s apartment.
But who knew...
"Prep these sweet potato shoots. Get rid of the old and wilted leaves."
"Peel these potatoes, wash them, and soak them in water."
"Slice the onion. I’ll need it in a bit."
"Peel all this shrimp..."
Adrian Sutton bustled around the kitchen.
But his mouth never stopped, either, as he continuously delegated tasks to Silas Rowan.
Silas, who had always been pampered and lived a life of luxury, was on the verge of tears.
He was being ordered around so much his head was spinning, and all for a single meal.
The tasks were all simple and easy, of course.
But he’d never done any of them before.
Soon enough, Silas really did start to cry.
It was the onion.
He never knew an onion could be so lethal.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down his cheeks.
The stinging in his eyes made Silas feel like he was about to have a breakdown.
Seeing this, Adrian Sutton said,
"Don’t look like you’ve lost the will to live."
"The way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach."
"Knowing how to cook well is a huge plus for a guy."
"Cooking in an apron during the holidays is a time-honored tradition for the men of Rhonia."
"If you don’t have this skill, you lose your competitive edge."
"Do you have any idea how many women from out of town want to marry a man from Rhonia?"
"And do you know why they want to marry men from Rhonia?"
Silas couldn’t help but growl. "Adrian Sutton, stop messing with my head!"
Adrian Sutton clapped him on the shoulder.
"Take your cousin’s advice and start learning how to cook today."
"I’m planning to start livestreaming my cooking every day."
"You can tune into my stream and learn a thing or two."
Upon hearing this, Silas was once again speechless.
"Wait, you’re seriously thinking about livestreaming?"
’The Chairman of the mighty CZ Group...’
’A trillionaire tycoon that countless powerful families are dying to get close to...’
’And he’s thinking about livestreaming his cooking?’
Silas really couldn’t understand how his cousin had become so hopelessly love-struck.
"I’ve already bought all the equipment," Adrian Sutton said. "Claire likes watching my streams."
"..."
Silas rolled his eyes and complained internally.
’You haven’t even started streaming yet. How could you possibly know she likes to watch?’
"Oh, so that’s why you’re cooking today. Is my sister coming over?"
Adrian Sutton shot him a look.
"Otherwise, what makes you think you’d get to eat a meal cooked by my own two hands?"
Silas stressed, "I contributed to this meal too, so don’t you dare take all the credit."
"You have the nerve to say you contributed," Adrian Sutton couldn’t help but roast him.
"You peeled a potato, and by the time you were done, the whole potato was practically gone."
"I asked you to prep the sweet potato shoots, and you nearly stripped them bare, leaving nothing but stems."
"And look at how you sliced the onion! You call those slices? It looks no different from just cutting it in half!"
Silas: "..."
Fine!
’After all that hard work, I just get roasted for doing a bad job.’
Silas felt like he had eagerly shown up today just to be tortured.
’Still, watching how skillfully Adrian is moving around the kitchen... the food probably won’t taste too bad, right?’
"When did you learn how to cook?"
"Don’t tell me it was for my sister, huh? Brother-in-law?"
Hearing Silas call him "brother-in-law," Adrian Sutton stopped what he was doing.
"Trying to get one up on me?"
Silas grinned. "Well, she is my sister now."
"My mom’s already preparing the adoption ceremony. She’s going to formally recognize her as a daughter of the Rowan Family."
"If you want to marry my sister in the future, you’ll have to be my brother-in-law."
"And once you’re married, you’ll have to respectfully call me ’Big Brother.’"
At this thought, Silas felt on top of the world again.
’He’s been lording his seniority over me for so long, and now I can finally turn the tables...’
The gloom in his heart vanished instantly.
"Besides, you don’t dare let her know your true identity right now."
"You’ll just have to follow her lead and call me ’Brother.’ I’m not wrong, am I?"
"Fine," Adrian Sutton said with a smile.
"Seeing as you’re so eloquent."
He was a little annoyed at the thought of having to call Silas ’Brother,’
after all, he was Silas’s older cousin, from the same side of the family.
But what Silas had just said successfully mollified him.
Once Claire formally recognized his aunt as her godmother, then after he and Claire got married, he really would have to call Silas ’Brother’ out of respect for her side of the family.
Realizing this, Silas beamed, positively giddy with delight.
’Getting Claire Mercer as a godsister was a brilliant move.’
’I can finally get one up on him!’
’It wasn’t easy, let me tell you.’
Seeing his triumphant smirk, Adrian Sutton shot him a sidelong glance.
"If you’re done, go set the table."
Silas immediately adopted the air of an elder brother-in-law.
"You’d better be a little nicer to me. I’m going to be your big brother-in-law, after all."
"If you want to marry my sister anytime soon, you’ll watch your tone with me."
"Because as things stand, if you want to marry her without me and my mom running interference for you, it won’t be so easy."
Adrian Sutton: "..."
’He’s using Claire to get to me.’
’Have to admit, Silas isn’t dumb.’
"Fine," Adrian Sutton said through gritted teeth. "Big Brother-in-Law, would you please set the table?"
"No problem, Brother-in-Law."
Beaming, Silas went off to happily set the table.
And it had to be said, hearing Silas call him "Brother-in-Law" truly warmed Adrian Sutton’s heart.
He continued cooking in high spirits, plating each dish with care.
Several of Claire Mercer’s favorite home-style dishes were soon ready.
Looking at the five meticulously prepared dishes and one soup on the table, Silas was practically drooling.
"I thought you didn’t like spicy food. How come all of these dishes are spicy?"
Adrian Sutton wore a dopey, lovesick smile. "Claire likes it."
’I wonder if Claire will like the dishes I made.’
’Honestly, I’m a little nervous. What if I can’t win her over with my cooking?’
Not long after the food was on the table, a call came from Claire Mercer.
"Claire, are you here?"
His tone was unbelievably gentle, and the cloying smile on his face gave Silas goosebumps.
’Is this the same Adrian Sutton who was just ordering me around?’
"Right. What’s the building and unit number?"
"I’m coming down to get you now."
After hanging up, he delegated another task to Silas.
"Hurry up and clean the kitchen. I’m going to get Claire."
Silas couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes again.
’The way this guy’s attitude changes is unbelievably fast.’
’A moment ago on the phone, he was as gentle as could be.’
’But the second he hangs up and faces me, he’s this harsh.’
Hmph!
’Men!’
