Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Let Her Hop Around for a Bit

Just as Adrian Sutton was about to call Hughes to have him take down the video and ban the accounts of the trolls stirring up trouble, a call from Claire Mercer came in.

He answered Claire’s call almost instantly.

"What is it, Claire?"

Claire’s cheerful and clear voice came through the phone.

"Remember how I mentioned coming over for your housewarming?"

"Is today a good day for you?"

The question made the gloom on Adrian Sutton’s face vanish, instantly replaced by a smile.

"I’m free."

’For Claire, he was always free.’

But then he remembered the video Judith Caldwell had posted online.

A shadow fell over Adrian Sutton’s wonderful mood.

’Claire sounded so happy, both in her voice and her mood.’

’Could it be she hasn’t seen the video Judith Caldwell posted, or the comments bashing her?’

He asked tentatively, filled with doubt.

"Claire, um... have you seen that video online?"

Claire asked casually, "You mean the one Judith Caldwell posted?"

"That’s the one."

"I saw it."

"You saw it and you’re not angry?"

’He was about to explode with rage, yet Claire didn’t seem to care in the slightest.’

"It’s fine, I’m not angry." Claire’s tone was still remarkably lighthearted.

"Let her have her moment."

"From the sound of it, you’re already prepared to fight back?"

"Yes, I’m organizing the evidence I have on hand, along with statements from my classmates."

"If I make all this public, her lies will fall apart on their own."

"So we just leave the video and comments up?"

’He truly couldn’t stand seeing her insulted and doubted.’

’When he saw those comments attacking her, he wanted to reach through the internet and rip their mouths off.’

Claire thought for a moment before saying, "If I take it down, people will think I have something to hide."

"It’s better to just leave it up. That way, when the tables turn, the backlash against her will be even worse."

"Besides, I don’t have the money to pay someone to take it down right now anyway."

’Her life was almost a joke, when she thought about it.’

’She, the once-great heiress of the Mercer family, had turned out to be a fake.’

’The wife of the Sinclair family’s eldest grandson, and in the end, it was a title in name only.’

’Two years after graduation, and her savings were less than a hundred thousand.’

’She had truly wasted her precious time on Gavin Sinclair.’

When Adrian Sutton heard that last sentence, he thought of all the injustice and abuse she had suffered over the years.

The anger that had just subsided was instantly reignited.

Hatred for the Sinclair and Mercer families surged like a raging fire through every drop of his blood.

It burned so hot his eyes turned crimson, and his heart ached for her with an unbearable pang.

He felt an overwhelming urge to give her a warm home.

To protect her for the rest of her life, and never let her suffer even the slightest harm again.

His original plan was to have Hughes delete the video, remove the comments, suppress the trending topic, and ban the troll accounts.

Then, he would expose every single instance of Judith Caldwell’s abuse toward Claire over the years.

It would be just like when he’d had his people dig up dirt on Mrs. Sinclair, Rose Gable, and Cynthia Sinclair.

He would lay bare every wicked thing they’d ever done, and then the public could be the judge.

But, just as Claire had said, if he helped her by deleting the post and all the unfavorable comments, then people would definitely think Claire was trying to silence them, and the narrative would turn against her.

’When it came to Claire, he tended to lose his rational judgment.’

’All he could think about was deleting the nasty comments, without considering the potential negative fallout for her.’

Since Claire said she was ready to fight back, he would follow her lead.

He would fan the flames from behind the scenes and clear any and all obstacles from her path.

With that in mind, Adrian Sutton quickly changed his tune to support her, saying reassuringly.

"Actually, you’re right. Taking the post down would just make people who don’t know the truth think you have something to hide."

"They might even suspect someone is manipulating the narrative on your behalf."

"It’s better to wait until the discussion reaches a fever pitch, and then strike back with your evidence."

Claire said, "You’re right. The fact that I don’t have money to get the post deleted is actually a good thing."

"I’ve completely cut ties with both the Mercer and Sinclair families now."

"From now on, I can finally focus on my career and on making money, with no distractions."

’She was done being a fool for love.’

’Wasting all her thoughts and time on a scumbag.’

’She would use her talents, build her own brand, and finally stand in a spotlight all her own.’

’She had confidence in herself.’

"Anyway, enough about all my drama."

"What do you like to eat? And how many people are coming for the housewarming? I’ll go buy groceries."

Adrian Sutton said, "Just having you come over is enough. How could I let you go shopping for groceries?"

"You just need to show up for dinner later. Leave the grocery shopping to me."

’He had originally hoped to taste Claire’s cooking.’

’He had longed for this day for so long.’

’But how could he possibly have the heart to make her toil in the kitchen now?’

’She was his cherished princess.’

’She deserved to be pampered, to live a life of ease where she wanted for nothing.’

He got angry just thinking about how that animal Gavin Sinclair had eaten her home-cooked meals for two years and didn’t even know how to appreciate it.

But more than that, he was jealous.

’Why did that scumbag get to eat the food Claire made with her own hands?’

’While he himself could only long for it?’

Thankfully, Claire was completely done with him now.

He would no longer be a part of her future.

No.

He had to speed things up.

He had to make Claire his wife as soon as possible.

’But when it came to marrying Claire, he wouldn’t be able to do it without resorting to some extraordinary measures.’

’Gavin Sinclair’s deception had hurt Claire so deeply.’

’Getting her to willingly step into marriage again would be harder than reaching the heavens.’

’He’d probably need his aunt’s help to make things go more smoothly.’

’He’d go find his aunt tomorrow and ask her to give him a little push.’

Claire, on the other end of the line, had no idea what was going through his mind.

’She figured that bringing groceries wasn’t the only way to contribute to a housewarming.’

’Since he put it that way, she could just bring some plants and fruit instead.’

"All right, then. I won’t buy groceries."

"But I’ll be bringing two of my best friends with me."

"Okay."

After hanging up, Adrian Sutton immediately went to change his clothes.

Filled with excitement, he happily left his apartment and went downstairs.
