After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 37: The Sinclair Family Must Be Plotting Something
Silas Rowan quickly drove to Adrian Sutton’s residence.
For Adrian Sutton, Claire Mercer’s divorce was a matter of extreme urgency.
The moment Silas arrived, Adrian got straight to the point.
"I’ve been thinking. The Sinclair Family is refusing to let Claire get a divorce. There must be something fishy going on."
"As the wealthiest family in Rhonia, they must look down on a daughter from a humble family like the Mercers."
"If Gavin Sinclair hadn’t injured his legs in that car accident, someone of Claire’s status would never have been good enough for the Sinclair Family."
"Besides, everyone in Rhonia’s high society now knows her identity—that she’s the Mercer Family’s adopted daughter."
"So, no matter how you look at it, the Sinclairs have no reason to oppose her divorce."
Silas agreed that the Sinclair Family seemed to have no reason to object to the divorce.
"I heard Miss Mercer took meticulous care of Gavin Sinclair these past two years."
"Half the credit for his legs recovering goes to her."
"Now that Gavin Sinclair’s legs have recovered, according to the Sinclairs’ usual way of doing things, they must be itching to kick Claire to the curb."
"Then they’d have him marry another high-society debutante to help the Sinclair Family climb even higher."
Adrian Sutton nodded in agreement. He mused for a moment, then seemed to understand what the Sinclair Family was plotting.
"Everyone in our circle knows that Claire spent two years devotedly caring for Gavin Sinclair."
"Even if they want to throw her out now, they still have to worry about the Sinclair Family’s reputation."
"Burning the bridge after you’ve crossed it is a huge taboo in the business world."
"If the Sinclair Family gets a reputation for being ungrateful, heartless, and disloyal..."
"...then it will more or less have an impact on their family’s prestige."
"So, the Sinclairs’ refusal either means they genuinely don’t want her to divorce Gavin Sinclair..."
"...but I’m ruling that out. Therefore, they must be scheming something."
"They’re looking for a way to ensure Gavin and Claire go their separate ways while also preserving the Sinclair Family’s reputation."
Silas said, "Following your logic, their only option is to target Miss Mercer."
Adrian Sutton said, "The Mercer Family’s status is lower than the Sinclair Family’s."
"Plus, Claire is just their adopted daughter. Even if the Sinclairs did something to her, I doubt the Mercer Family would dare to object."
"What’s more, given the Mercer Family’s attitude toward Claire over the years, they certainly wouldn’t be willing to offend the Sinclairs for her sake."
"And on top of that, the Mercer Family’s so-called ’true heiress’ was already having a secret affair with Gavin Sinclair—they even have a child..."
"I’m afraid the Mercer Family can’t wait for Claire to be kicked out by the Sinclairs so Scarlett Jewel can take her place."
Silas asked, "So you’re worried the Sinclair Family will conspire with the Mercer Family to frame Miss Mercer?"
Adrian Sutton nodded.
"If the Sinclair Family is really plotting behind her back to frame Miss Mercer, then they’re truly despicable and shameless."
Adrian Sutton thought about how much Claire Mercer had given for Gavin Sinclair over the past two years.
And now, just to get a divorce, she was being schemed against by the Sinclair Family. A bone-chilling coldness gradually surfaced in his eyes.
After a long moment, he said coolly, "So, it’s time for Rhonia to have a new wealthiest family."
Silas knew that with Adrian Sutton’s current position, toppling the Sinclair Family wouldn’t be difficult.
"But isn’t it a little too early to make a move on them now?"
"No rush," Adrian Sutton said. "First, let’s give them a little hope of climbing even higher."
As far as he knew, although the Sinclair Family held the top spot as Rhonia’s wealthiest family, their growth over the past two years had been strained.
So they were desperate to find a breakthrough to secure their position at the top.
Under these circumstances, they would surely set their sights on the powerful elite.
As long as a big shot from the upper echelons could protect them, it wouldn’t be a problem for the Sinclair Family to stay rich for another decade.
Silas asked, "You mean..."
Adrian Sutton said, "I need my aunt to make an appearance."
Silas: "Huh?"
Adrian Sutton leaned in and whispered a few words into Silas’s ear, then asked.
"What do you think of my idea?"
Silas let out a soft laugh. "As expected of you, you old fox."
"But my mom is still on vacation right now. I don’t know when she’ll be back."
Adrian Sutton said, "My aunt’s birthday is in a few days."
Hearing this, Silas finally realized that Adrian Sutton had planned everything out.
"Looks like you had this planned all along, huh?"
He shot Adrian Sutton an exasperated glance.
"So you’re pretending to discuss this with me, but you’re actually just informing me?"
"Don’t get caught up in the details," Adrian Sutton said.
"For the sake of my future happiness, I naturally have to plan everything perfectly."
Silas sighed. "It’s a good thing Miss Mercer met you. Otherwise, her life from now on would probably be very difficult."
"But you’re not just infatuated with her on a whim, are you?"
"After you finally win her over, will you just kick her to the curb once time passes, you get tired of her, and your feelings change?"
Adrian Sutton said, "That day will never come!"
His tone was resolute, his gaze firm.
It was probably because he had been abandoned by his father’s side of the family as a child.
The truth was, before he met Claire Mercer, he had always been very closed off.
He never had any yearning for something like love.
He thought he would never touch it in his lifetime, and he certainly would never be moved by any woman.
But, on the day she suddenly appeared in his life...
...he discovered that love was something completely beyond his control.
He either felt nothing at all, or when he did fall for someone, it was for a lifetime.
’Besides, Claire is so wonderful. What reason would I ever have to change my mind?’
"Oh, right. I’m moving in a few days, and Claire said she’d come for a housewarming."
As he said this, a dopey, lovesick grin instantly appeared on Adrian Sutton’s face.
Silas shot him a glare. "I can’t stand seeing you look so pathetic."
Adrian Sutton thought about how he would soon be eating a meal cooked by Claire herself, and he chuckled foolishly.
"That’s because you haven’t met a girl who makes your heart race. You just don’t get it."
Silas couldn’t help but glance at him again.
"If I’m going to end up like you, then I’d rather never meet her."
Adrian Sutton was unbothered. "Suit yourself."
Silas: "..."
"By the way, once Claire’s business is all settled, I’m going to start livestreaming."
Silas rolled his eyes. "Is that really necessary?"
’A trillionaire is going to be an internet streamer?’
’And an edgy one at that...’
’If the employees and business partners of his corporation found out, who knows what they would think of him.’
"Yes," Adrian Sutton said, nodding very seriously.
"Becoming a streamer was a heartfelt suggestion from Claire. I can’t let her good intentions go to waste."
"Adrian Sutton, is there a cure for your love-addled brain?"
Silas honestly had no idea how to snap him out of it. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Adrian Sutton: "I don’t want to be cured."
Silas: "..."
Suddenly, Adrian Sutton clapped Silas on the shoulder and reminded him.
"Remember to show up and send me gifts, you hear?"
"I can’t have my stream room looking deserted. That would be pretty embarrassing."
Silas rolled his eyes at him. "Am I supposed to be your top donor, too?"
Adrian Sutton shot him an appreciative look. "I’m glad you’re so self-aware."
Silas: "..."
’A trillionaire, begging for donations on a livestream?’
’Just thinking about that image is enough to give someone the creeps.’
