Chapter 205: Chapter 205: A Little Ambiguity

Claire Mercer had actually been slowly starting to sense Adrian Sutton’s feelings for her.

He was always silently giving his all for her.

But he never asked for anything in return, nor did he ever seek credit.

His kindness, his concern for her...

It was always just right, the perfect amount of everything.

He never made her feel burdened or pressured in any way.

Every time she came home, the food was always hot.

And it was always her favorite dishes, which he prepared in a variety of ways for her.

Since they had started living together, she hadn’t done a single chore.

She didn’t even have to clear the dishes; he always took care of everything.

The house was also always kept spotlessly clean and tidy.

Their union had started as a marriage of convenience.

But over the past two months of living together day in and day out, she found that their interactions and the atmosphere between them seemed to have grown a little subtle.

Adrian Sutton took in her shyness and flustered state.

The smile at the corners of his lips deepened.

’Claire is getting shy.’

’She’s shy because of me.’

He suppressed his inner ecstasy and deliberately poured her a cup of hot tea, his voice gentle. "Don’t just drink beer. Have some hot tea."

"Why would you drink hot tea in the middle of summer? You have to drink beer."

Saying this, Roxanne Peyton boldly snatched the teacup from in front of Claire Mercer and set it aside.

Then she got up and filled everyone’s glass to the brim with beer.

Foam overflowed down the side of the glass. She raised a hand to wipe away the liquid that had splashed onto her fingertips, her eyes curving into crescents as she smiled.

Then she raised her glass and said cheerfully.

"Come on, everyone! Let’s all have a drink first."

The others readily complied, raising their full glasses and clinking them together.

They then downed the entire glass of refreshingly cold beer in one go.

When the two men beside them saw Claire Mercer, Roxanne Peyton, and Stella Thorne all chug their full glasses with such gusto, they were a little stunned.

Each glass could hold an entire 500-milliliter bottle of beer.

’The girls are drinking so fast and hard right from the start...’

’Are they all going to end up passed out drunk here later?’

After Claire Mercer downed the full glass of ice-cold beer, Adrian Sutton quickly poured her a cup of warm tea.

"Drink a little slower, and eat something. Otherwise, it’ll be hard on your stomach, and you’ll get drunk easily."

With that, he placed two pieces of charcoal-grilled pork belly in her bowl.

Claire Mercer gave him a soft smile. "Thank you, Adrian Sutton."

’He’s always so good to me, so thoughtful...’

Seeing this, Roxanne Peyton’s eyes filled with a crafty, gossipy smile.

She sidled up to Claire Mercer and gently tugged her hand.

Then she laughed loudly. "Claire, look how attentive your man is. You have one drink and he’s already worried you’ll choke or upset your stomach... He’s so good to you. It makes us single folks die with envy!"

Hearing this, Claire Mercer’s cheeks grew even hotter.

She didn’t know if it was the alcohol taking effect or something else...

The tips of her ears and her cheeks were gradually warming up.

She picked up her teacup and took a gentle sip. The warm tea slid down her throat and flowed into her heart.

A warmth then quietly spread through her.

She wasn’t sure if it was because of the warm tea, or the person who had poured it for her.

Meanwhile, Adrian Sutton watched her flushing cheeks and the tips of her ears.

The tenderness in his eyes was impossible to hide, almost overflowing.

His long, well-defined fingers also lifted a teacup.

He gently tapped it against her cup, making a crisp sound.

Seeing this, Roxanne Peyton started teasing them again.

"That’s too much! You even have to clink glasses just to drink tea. No public displays of affection, you two."

When Stella Thorne saw Roxanne Peyton teasing Claire Mercer, she almost chimed in.

But then she remembered the message Claire had sent her and smiled at Roxanne.

"Roxanne, if you’re so envious, you should hurry up and find someone too."

Roxanne Peyton shot her an annoyed glance and said.

"You think it’s like buying groceries at the market? Where I can just pick whichever one I like?"

"Besides, all the good ones are taken. The only ones left are rotten cabbages."

As soon as she said this, the smile on Silas Rowan’s face instantly froze.

’Does she mean... that I’m one of those rotten cabbages too?’

Roxanne Peyton didn’t notice the strange look in Silas Rowan’s eyes and continued boisterously.

"Let’s drink first and not talk about all this messy stuff."

"Let’s get this straight, no one’s leaving until we’re drunk tonight!"

"If anyone dares to slip away early, they’ll have me to answer to."

Silas Rowan sat to the side, feeling a bit crushed at being called a rotten cabbage.

But watching Roxanne Peyton’s boisterous antics, a faint smile still unconsciously appeared on his lips.

He then shook his head with a hint of resignation.

’She was just speaking casually, not talking about me specifically. What am I so down about?’

He saw her pick up the beer bottle again and start pouring it into the empty glasses.

Perhaps because she had been drinking too quickly, she knocked over the bottle on the table as she poured.

With quick reflexes, Silas Rowan hurriedly righted the fallen bottle.

"Why don’t you sit down? We can pour our own."

Roxanne Peyton nodded. "We’re all friends here. Everyone, feel free to top up your own glasses."

With that, she sat back down in her seat.

As she sat, her figure swayed slightly.

He reflexively reached out and steadied her teetering body.

His palm rested on the side of her waist, separated by a thin layer of dress fabric.

He could clearly feel how slender and soft her waist was.

His fingertips and palm could even faintly feel the warmth of her skin.

Roxanne Peyton froze for a moment, but quickly returned to her energetic smile.

Her eyes crinkled as she smiled at Silas Rowan, casually patting him on the shoulder.

"Thanks... Silas!"

Claire Mercer froze slightly when she saw her pat Silas Rowan on the shoulder.

’Why does Roxanne seem to be treating Silas like one of her buddies?’

’If she really sees him as just a buddy, how am I supposed to set them up?’

She had been keeping her godmother’s request in mind. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Besides, Silas was a great guy in every respect.

If Roxanne Peyton could be with him, her life probably wouldn’t be the mess it had been before.

Thankfully, her own life was very peaceful now.

She no longer had to walk on eggshells around anyone.

Nor did she have to endure being suppressed by anyone.

She felt that this was good enough.

"Let’s all relax and have a good time tonight! No one leaves until we’re drunk!"

Roxanne Peyton was very happy today, her spirits high.

"But just drinking is kind of boring. Let’s play a game later. What do you guys think?"

Silas Rowan asked, "What game?"

Roxanne Peyton grinned. "Let’s play every game we know. How about it?"

"Sure," Claire Mercer said, also feeling quite happy.

"It’s been a while since we all got together properly. We’ll do as you say today."

She had been busy with the competition lately and hadn’t had time to relax properly.

Although there had been an incident during the finals, with her popularity and skill, winning the championship should be a piece of cake.

Besides, that sewer rat Scarlett Jewel had already had her plans backfire spectacularly.

She was happy about it.

She wasn’t some saint; right now, she was gloating.

Just thinking about what Scarlett Jewel was about to face...

...made her want to clap her hands and celebrate with a drink.

First, Scarlett Jewel had been the other woman, then she constantly looked for trouble with her.

She stole her design sketches and plagiarized her work.

She even instigated Joel Jennings to publicly slander her for plagiarism...

One thing after another, she had relentlessly provoked her without any bottom line.

She had never been one to provoke anyone, only wanting to do her own work.

To live a simple, stable life.

But that woman just had to provoke her time and time again...

Now, her scandals were exposed, her plagiarism was confirmed, and the fact that she instigated Joel Jennings to slander her was set in stone.

Seeing her have such a major downfall, she was naturally happy.

Claire Mercer stood up and proactively refilled everyone’s glass.

Seeing the brilliant smile on her face, Adrian Sutton felt happy as well.

"Didn’t we say we were going to play a game?" Stella Thorne asked.

Roxanne Peyton said excitedly, "Right, right! Let’s get the game started! How about we start with the simplest one, Truth or Dare?"

Stella Thorne said, "Isn’t that a bit old-fashioned? I don’t want to play."

Claire Mercer immediately shot Stella Thorne a look. "How is it old-fashioned? It’s a must-play at any drinking gathering. Let’s start with Truth or Dare. I have no objections."

Stella Thorne understood the message in Claire Mercer’s eyes and nodded. "Alright, then. Let’s play Truth or Dare."

’Without Truth or Dare, how else could they create an opportunity for Silas and Roxanne?’

The two of them secretly and tacitly exchanged another glance, and the game officially began.
