Chapter 200: Chapter 200: Scarlett Jewel Is About to Explode

Silas Rowan stopped in his tracks on his way to the passenger seat.

Then, he shook his head, a little awkward and embarrassed.

"It’s fine. It’s the same if I sit in the back."

With that, he pulled open the rear door and got in.

A sly curve lifted the corners of Claire Mercer’s lips.

But it didn’t escape Adrian Sutton’s eyes.

’He knew his aunt couldn’t sit still any longer and had already roped his wife into helping her son pursue a wife.’

Adrian Sutton gave a subtle smile, then suddenly leaned in close to Claire Mercer.

His warm breath, carrying a faint, woody scent, brushed past her ear.

The distance between them closed in an instant, so close that Claire Mercer could see the curve of his eyelashes and the undisguised amusement in his eyes.

His sudden move startled Claire Mercer. She instinctively shrank back, her back pressing firmly against the car seat.

Her body went rigid as she stared, wide-eyed, at his magnified face.

Her heartbeat instantly fell out of rhythm, pounding against her chest like a drum, and an uncontrollable heat spread to the tips of her ears.

’There are three other people here, what is he doing?’

Then, Adrian Sutton pulled the passenger-side seatbelt across and fastened it for her.

Using the pretext of buckling her seatbelt, he leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Did Godmother ask you to set up Silas Rowan and Roxanne Peyton?"

’Oh, so that’s what he wanted to ask...’

Claire Mercer breathed a sigh of relief, her heart rate gradually returning to normal.

She whispered back, "Mhm, Silas Rowan hasn’t been in a relationship, and she’s really worried. She asked me to find a way to try and set him up with Roxanne."

Adrian Sutton chuckled softly, clicked her seatbelt into place, and sat up straight.

In the back, Silas Rowan was sitting against the far-left window.

His long legs were crossed, his fingertips tapping idly on his knee, a certain aloofness in his expression.

Stella Thorne glanced at the "do not disturb" aura surrounding him, decisively avoided it, and pushed Roxanne Peyton in ahead of her.

"You sit in the middle. I get a little carsick, so I need to be by a window."

Roxanne Peyton was a bit baffled.

’How come both of my best friends are suddenly getting carsick today?’

’I’ve never heard of them getting carsick before.’

Roxanne Peyton didn’t overthink it and sat in the middle of the back seat.

The car started moving slowly, heading toward the bustling city center.

It was hard to tell if Stella Thorne was doing it on purpose.

But Roxanne Peyton felt like she was getting squeezed more and more as the ride went on.

At first, it was just a casual lean, but soon it felt like half of Stella’s body was pressing against her.

Roxanne Peyton’s arm was squished until it was pressed directly against Silas Rowan.

She felt Silas Rowan’s body tense up slightly.

After all, the distance between them was now far too close.

She was practically pressed against Silas Rowan’s chest.

The cool scent of cedar from him wafted into her nose, making her heart flutter erratically.

She pretended like nothing was wrong and tried to shift a little toward the center.

But as if sensing her movement, Stella Thorne squeezed over even more.

She looped her arm through Roxanne’s and rested her head on her shoulder.

’She must be exhausted lately,’ Roxanne thought, wanting to ask her to move over but stopping when she saw her best friend looking so clingy.

The words telling her to move over were on the tip of her tongue, but she swallowed them back down.

She had no choice but to inch a little closer to Silas Rowan.

Yet Stella Thorne, with a look of pure innocence, turned her head and smiled at Roxanne Peyton.

"Roxanne, am I crowding you? This car looks big, but it feels pretty cramped inside."

"Adrian Sutton, I’m not saying this to complain that your car is small, ha."

"Really, just having a car to get around is enough. You don’t have to drive some expensive luxury car."

From the front seat, Adrian Sutton chuckled. "I know."

’She’s coordinating with my wife.’

’If I couldn’t even see that, I’d have lived the last twenty-plus years for nothing.’

"Sigh, Roxanne, you know I’ve been under a lot of pressure with the competition lately..."

Hearing this, Roxanne Peyton was a bit confused.

’Her being stressed about her competition, and her insisting on squishing me in the car...’

’Is there some connection between the two?’

’Whatever. She does seem really tired lately.’

’If she wants to squeeze in and lean on me, I’ll just let her.’

Meanwhile, Silas Rowan, now being pressed by Roxanne Peyton, was plastered firmly against the car door.

He wanted to push her away, but then he glanced sideways and saw her delicate and beautiful face...

As if possessed, he just let her continue pressing against him.

Even though he was being squished uncomfortably.

’I don’t know what Adrian Sutton is thinking, not getting a bigger car after all this time.’

’If he wants to pretend to be poor, nobody’s stopping him from driving a regular-priced car.’

’But couldn’t he at least have chosen a bigger one?’

’It’s so crowded now I can barely breathe, but it wouldn’t be right to push her away.’

’But the distance between us is just too close. I can even smell the fragrance of her hair.’

’And when I think about how she was looking at me earlier, her head tilted, with that sly, lively expression...’

Silas Rowan felt his breathing become even more labored.

In this car, the atmosphere among the group was subtle, yet sweet.

But for Scarlett Jewel on the other side, the situation was not nearly as good.

After the amniocentesis, she was dragged back to the Sinclair family’s old mansion by Gavin Sinclair.

The closer they got to the Sinclair mansion, the more terrified Scarlett Jewel became.

The scandal she had caused had blown up online, and since it was still a trending topic, the Sinclair family had probably already seen it.

The Sinclairs already looked down on her for her background, looked down on her as a person.

Now that her dark past was laid bare for all to see, the Sinclairs would probably skin her alive.

Thankfully, she still had a child in her belly, or she would surely be flayed today.

But even if she could get through today, once the DNA report came out, if the child really wasn’t Gavin Sinclair’s...

Just thinking about it made Scarlett Jewel feel like she was about to explode.

’How did things turn out like this?’

’Who on earth leaked those photos?’

If her dark past hadn’t been exposed, Gavin Sinclair would never have forced her to the hospital for a paternity test.

Without a paternity test, her position as Mrs. Sterling of the Sinclair family would have been perfectly secure.

But now things were out of her control; everything was heading in the worst possible direction.

She prayed that their arrival at the Sinclair mansion would be delayed, but it was already right before her eyes.

Gavin Sinclair parked the car at the entrance of the luxurious building, opened his door, and got out.

Seeing that Scarlett Jewel seemed to be glued to the passenger seat, he opened her door.

"What are you spacing out for? Get out."

Scarlett Jewel hesitated, wavered, her heart filled with immense worry.

The thought of facing the Sinclairs made her heart leap into her throat.

In the end, Gavin Sinclair was the one who yanked her out of the passenger seat.

Then he practically dragged her into the living room of the Sinclair mansion.

Sure enough, Felix Sinclair, Rose Gable, and even Cynthia Sinclair were in the living room.

Scarlett Jewel stood in the living room, her fingers clutching her sleeves so tightly they had turned white.

Her knuckles trembled from the force, and a fine crack even appeared in her exquisite manicure.

The crystal chandelier in the living room was dazzlingly bright, yet she only felt a bone-chilling cold enveloping her.

With every breath she took, it felt like tiny shards of ice were piercing her chest.

Felix Sinclair stood up, then violently threw a stack of indecent photos at her face.

The sharp corner of a photo cut a thin gash on her cheek.

Consumed by fear, Scarlett Jewel didn’t feel a single trace of pain.

Felix Sinclair’s eyes were terrifyingly grim, and his whole demeanor was as somber as an envoy from hell.

"Scarlett Jewel, aren’t you going to explain these photos?"
