Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Claire Mercer, You Hit Me for This Pretty Boy?

When Claire Mercer saw it was Gavin Sinclair, her brow furrowed instantly, and she asked with a look of displeasure, "What are you doing here again?"

In truth, even Gavin Sinclair himself didn’t know why he had come.

He had never deigned to come here before, especially after Scarlett Jewel returned. All he wanted was to make it up to her.

To keep Scarlett from getting jealous, he had naturally done his best to avoid Claire.

But ever since Claire Mercer had asked for a divorce, he felt like his emotions were spiraling out of his control.

Gavin Sinclair had never imagined that the utterly subservient Claire Mercer would be the one to ask for a divorce.

Faced with Claire’s completely different attitude, he found it jarring.

It was as if something that had always belonged to him was suddenly taking flight, impossible to catch no matter how he reached for it.

He hated this feeling.

So, on some inexplicable impulse, he had come looking for her.

What he hadn’t expected, however, was that she would return with another man.

He had heard she’d found a male model and stayed out all night, and he had let it slide.

But now she dared to bring another man home? How was he supposed to tolerate that?

He glared at Adrian Sutton with a dark expression for a long moment, thinking he looked vaguely familiar.

After a long moment, he remembered. This pretty boy was the same loser from the hospital who’d said his big talk stank worse than his feet.

"Claire Mercer, who is he?"

"None of your business." Claire couldn’t be bothered with him and tried to walk past him into the house.

But Gavin grabbed her wrist, sneering through gritted teeth.

"Hah. No wonder you were so insistent on a divorce. Turns out you’ve been messing around with this pathetic loser all along."

"And now you dare to bring your lover home? You’ve really grown some wings, haven’t you?"

Adrian Sutton didn’t care how Gavin Sinclair cursed him.

’An ant like him...’

’If he weren’t involved with Claire, I wouldn’t even spare him a glance.’

Now, his attention was fixed on Gavin Sinclair’s right hand.

’How dare he treat my Claire so roughly...’

’Her wrist is so delicate, yet that bastard dares to squeeze it with such force.’

’Sooner or later, I’ll chop off his right hand. If I wasn’t afraid of scaring Claire, I’d cripple him right now.’

Claire flung Gavin’s hand off and said sharply,

"This is my house. I’ll bring home whomever I please. What does it have to do with you?"

Gavin roared in a low voice, "Claire Mercer, this is my house too."

"Your house?" Claire’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile.

"Let’s not even mention the deed is in my name. It was a personal gift from my grandmother and has nothing to do with you."

"Ask yourself, have you ever once treated this place like your home?"

"Since your leg healed and we moved in, how many nights have you actually spent in this so-called ’home’ of yours?"

’Ever since they moved in, he was constantly staying out all night.’

’At the time, she’d actually believed he was busy with company business now that his leg had healed.’

’But what was the reality?’

’His precious ex-girlfriend had returned.’

’He was busy with her, making up for the two years of beautiful time they had lost.’

’Even the nurses at the hospital thought Scarlett was Gavin’s wife.’

’All of it made her sacrifices over the past two years look like a complete joke.’

Gavin knew he had gone too far.

He knew he didn’t have a leg to stand on.

"But that’s no excuse for you to be out finding other men."

"Stop calling people ’other men’ with every breath."

"Not everyone is as shameless as Scarlett Jewel, destroying other people’s families."

’Gavin was like a mad dog right now, just latching onto someone and biting indiscriminately.’

Claire didn’t want to drag Adrian Sutton into her problems.

Although she had indeed spent the whole night with him, nothing had happened between them.

’Unlike Gavin and Scarlett, who had probably already created a life together.’

Her business with Gavin shouldn’t involve innocent people.

So she said to Adrian Sutton,

"You should go. I have something to take care of here."

For the first time, Adrian Sutton didn’t want to do as she said.

"I’m not leaving. I’m worried he’ll hurt you."

Claire said, "We live in a society with laws. He wouldn’t dare lay a hand on me."

But the words had barely left her mouth when a fist flew past her face.

Before she could even react, Claire saw a fist smash hard into Adrian Sutton’s face.

The sudden punch startled Claire.

She glanced over and saw Gavin Sinclair, his eyes bloodshot, glaring at Adrian Sutton.

His vicious gaze looked as if he wanted to eat Adrian alive.

Claire flew into a rage and shoved Gavin away forcefully.

She roared at him, "Gavin Sinclair, are you insane?"

"Me, insane? You’re the one who’s lost her mind!"

"You want to divorce me for some broke pretty boy with nothing to his name?"

"It’s his face that got to you, isn’t it?"

"Fine. I’ll destroy that pretty face of his today."

After spitting out the words through gritted teeth, Gavin swung his fist at Adrian again. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

But before his fist could land on Adrian’s face, he was struck by a hard slap from Claire.

Gavin was completely stunned by the slap, staring at Claire in disbelief.

’His most loyal, devoted lapdog... actually hit him?’

"Claire Mercer, you dare to hit me?"

Claire hadn’t expected to hit him either.

She didn’t know what had come over her, what impulse had made her slap Gavin across the face.

But his actions were now harming an innocent person. She had to stop him.

"If I didn’t hit you, was I just supposed to let you keep acting like a lunatic?"

"You dare to lay a hand on me... for this pathetic loser?" Gavin was in sheer disbelief.

He couldn’t believe that the woman staring at him with such a cold expression was the same Claire who used to bow and scrape before him.

She used to speak to him so softly and carefully, terrified that a single wrong word would displease him.

But now, she had hit him for some pretty boy she’d found on the outside. Gavin absolutely could not accept it.

Claire’s eyes were like frost as she stared at Gavin and said coldly,

"Gavin Sinclair, in our marriage, you are the only one who has ever cheated, from start to finish."

"My relationship with him is completely innocent, yet you attack him without a second thought. Don’t you think your behavior is utterly vile?"

"And let’s just say, for the sake of argument, that there was something going on between us. What right would you have to hit anyone?"

"You were the one who cheated first, and you’ve been defending your mistress all this time. So what’s with you throwing a fit here now?"

"Is this a case of ’rules for thee, but not for me’?"

It only takes a moment to fall in love.

The same is true for having your heart die.

When she was trapped in her car after the accident, and Gavin couldn’t have cared less, her heart had already died for him.

Now, all she felt for Gavin was disgust.

Her once pure affection for him, her sacrifices over the past two years—they were all just a stain on her life.

She shot Gavin a look of disgust, then pulled Adrian Sutton into the house.
