After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 57: This is My Love
The person standing in front of Moira Sloan was Shane Jennings’s sister.
His biological sister.
During the years she’d been dating Shane Jennings, she and this girl had been on relatively good terms.
She never expected that her sudden split with Shane would turn his sister into an enemy too.
The young woman’s cheeks were puffed out in anger. She looked at Moira, then at Connor Quinn standing not far behind her, and said resentfully, "So what Rachel Yates said was true after all."
Moira hadn’t planned on bickering with the girl.
But at the mention of Rachel Yates, she was suddenly interested.
"Oh? What did Rachel tell you?"
Yara Jennings, her cheeks still puffed, said, "Rachel said you cheated."
Moira scoffed, "Your brother is about to get married. Am I not allowed to date?"
Yara retorted, "You cheated first. That’s why my brother is marrying Cassie Blanchett."
A half-smile played on Moira’s lips. "Did your brother tell you that? Or was it Rachel? Or perhaps, someone else in the Jennings Family?"
Faced with Moira’s questioning, Yara Jennings pressed her lips together and said nothing.
Seeing that questioning wasn’t working, Moira was about to try goading her to find out who had twisted the truth and said something so shameless. Just then, Laura Cheney walked out of the Jennings Residence with two maids, a fake smile on her face. She walked past Moira and went straight to Connor Quinn.
"Grandpa and Grandma have been waiting for you for a long time."
"Why did you buy so many things when you’re just coming home?"
"You silly boy."
After speaking, Laura Cheney turned to instruct the maids to take the things. When she turned back, the smile was gone from her face, replaced by coldness and impatience.
Moira watched this and couldn’t help but feel a flicker of admiration.
’She can change her expression faster than someone can flip a page.’
Laura Cheney had also noticed Moira Sloan. Their eyes met, but neither of them spoke.
A moment later, Laura Cheney led Connor Quinn and Moira Sloan inside.
Just before they entered, Laura Cheney shot Connor Quinn a troubled look and said in a low voice, "Connor, this girlfriend of yours was previously with Shane..."
Connor Quinn’s expression was indifferent. "I know."
Laura Cheney continued, "It’s good that you know. It’s a rather awkward situation, you..."
Connor Quinn’s tone was cold. "I hope Second Aunt can keep Shane in line. Let’s forget about the past. Moira is his sister-in-law now, one way or another. If he keeps pestering her, that’s what will be truly awkward when word gets out."
Laura Cheney fell silent.
Moira Sloan was walking right beside Connor Quinn at that moment.
Hearing his words, she couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow slightly.
As a reward for him, under the sour gazes of Laura Cheney and Yara Jennings, she gave a sweet, gentle smile and looped her arm through Connor Quinn’s in a very feminine way.
On top of that, Moira Sloan even winked at the two of them. "Second Aunt, Yara, we’re all family now."
Laura Cheney fell silent.
Yara Jennings fell silent.
As the old saying goes, a kind person is easily bullied, just as a gentle horse is easily ridden.
But if you act up and cause a ruckus, rest assured, your life will be a smooth road, with clear sailing and good fortune.
Perhaps because the combination of Connor Quinn and Moira Sloan was too powerful, Laura Cheney’s smile was a little stiff as they entered the main building.
And as for Yara Jennings, it was even worse.
She was never one to keep her composure, and now her face was a mile long.
It was a good thing she had a small, round face; otherwise, the effect would have been unimaginable.
As the group entered, Master Jennings and Madam Jennings, who were sitting on the living room sofa, looked over at them.
Master Jennings had only found out about Connor Quinn and Moira Sloan half an hour ago. His face was tense, clearly still processing the fact that his prospective younger grandson’s wife had become his elder grandson’s wife.
Compared to Master Jennings, Madam Jennings was far more accepting. The moment she saw Moira, she smiled and beckoned her over. Just like before, she pulled Moira close and immediately clasped her hands as soon as she was within reach.
"Grandma."
Moira Sloan sat down beside Madam Jennings and spoke softly.
Madam Jennings patted the back of her hand. "You’ve been wronged."
Moira smiled but didn’t say anything.
She had indeed been wronged, and she wouldn’t be hypocritical and say she hadn’t.
But she also wouldn’t use it to put the old madam in an awkward position, because she knew that the root of the problem was Shane Jennings. No one else was to blame.
If Shane had been determined to marry her and no one else, the entire Jennings Family couldn’t have held a knife to his throat and forced him to submit.
In the end, it was an adult’s marriage, and he had weighed the pros and cons.
Just as Shane Jennings and Cassie Blanchett walked in, Master Jennings was asking how Connor Quinn and Moira Sloan had met.
Connor Quinn, with his broad shoulders and narrow waist, sat with his back ramrod straight. He said with a serious expression, "We met on a blind date. It was love at first sight."
Master Jennings, suspicious of Moira, shot a sharp glance at her, gesturing for her to speak.
Master Jennings used to be a reconnaissance scout. Moira offered a faint smile, trying her best to appear natural.
But just as she parted her red lips to answer, Connor Quinn, sitting beside her, suddenly reached out his large hand and pressed it over hers, which was resting on her lap. His voice was impassive as he said, "Grandpa, I brought the woman I love here, not a criminal. If you don’t like her, I can take her and leave, but you will not humiliate her."
