After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 209: For the Sake of the Family, Please Sacrifice Yourself!
A chill went through Chen Su, and she began to shiver violently.
She struggled to turn her head, her eyes fixed pitifully on her grandfather, who was standing close at hand.
However, Old Master Chen was now concerned with other issues.
"Then, what about the Chen family?" Old Master Chen tentatively asked Shen Fanyun.
If the suppression continued, the Chen family would truly be forced into bankruptcy. He had come this time to plead with Shen Fanyun to show mercy and stop the pressure. As for Chen Su, at this critical stage, if her life could be exchanged for a sliver of hope for the Chen family, it was a price he could pay.
Since ancient times, it’s been said that the politics of great families run as deep as the ocean; at critical moments, some lives can be decisively sacrificed!
As expected, Shen Fanyun’s gaze flickered. He stared at Old Master Chen again and again, his meaning perfectly clear without a word being spoken. The old master was shrewd from a lifetime of experience. Though reluctant, he had no other choice.
To be born into a great family is to be prepared to sacrifice for it at any moment. Besides, this sudden disaster was brought on entirely by Chen Su herself. She had only herself to blame for this outcome.
"I... I understand," Old Master Chen nodded, his voice heavy and feeble. But matters had reached this point, and there was no other way.
He then rose to his feet with some difficulty and hauled Chen Su up with him.
Still in shock, Chen Su’s legs went soft. "Grandpa... can we leave now?"
"Take her home and deal with it," Shen Fanyun reminded him.
Old Master Chen dared not defy Shen Fanyun. "Yes... yes, of course."
"Deal with it? Deal with what?" From the conversation between her grandfather and Shen Fanyun, Chen Su sensed that something was terribly wrong. Had her own grandfather made some kind of deal with Shen Fanyun? Were they going to use her life to atone for her sins and buy the Chen family a chance at survival? Was her grandfather going to kill her with his own hands? Could he really bring himself to do it?
In an instant, her pupils dilated and she began to struggle violently, trying to break free from Old Master Chen’s grasp.
"I-I’m not going back! Grandpa, I have something to do today, I’m not going back!"
Chen Su trembled from head to toe. In that instant, the grandfather she had once been closest to became a veritable demon in her eyes. She had to get away—as far away as possible.
"Grandpa, I really have something to do!" Chen Su cried out, her face a mask of terror, leaving her with barely any strength to speak. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Old Master Chen’s mouth twitched as he clamped down on her arm. "We’re going back."
"No! I’m not going back!" Chen Su yelled, stumbling backward step-by-step as she tried to put distance between herself and her grandfather.
In her eyes, the elder she had once loved most had transformed into a demon eager to drink her blood!
Shen Fanyun, of course, had no interest in watching the melodrama between the Chen grandfather and granddaughter. He turned, picked up the nutritional supplement from the table, and said to Yu Lan, "Auntie, have some soup."
"Alright, thank you," Yu Lan smiled.
The Zhao family’s crisis was, at this moment, completely resolved. And Chen Su, that vicious, devilish woman, was finally going to pay the price.
"I feel so much better all of a sudden," Yu Lan joked with Shen Fanyun.
Shen Fanyun nodded. "Now that the weight is off your mind, of course you’ll recover faster."
Yu Lan stared at Shen Fanyun for a long moment before saying with sincerity, "Thank you, Fanyun."
"Zhao Jian and I are good buddies. His business is my business. Besides, Auntie, you were always good to me. I came over to your place to freeload on food and drinks all the time back then. To think that was already ten years ago."
Am I getting old? It seems once you cross the thirty-year threshold, you can’t help but reminisce about the old days at the most unexpected times. Shen Fanyun mused to himself.
"When I get out of the hospital in a couple of days, remember to come over for dinner," Yu Lan told him.
Shen Fanyun nodded. "Definitely."
After spending over an hour at the hospital, Shen Fanyun got up to leave.
Zhao Jian bustled about, a grin he couldn’t wipe from his face. In his entire life, today was the happiest, most satisfying day.
"You need to be a better judge of character from now on. Don’t throw yourself at a woman so blindly. It’s not worth it," Shen Fanyun cautioned Zhao Jian. If he hadn’t been so careless in his judgment, he never would have been targeted by that venomous woman, Chen Su, nor would he have suffered so miserably.
"Sigh, I’m truly scared off. I don’t think I’ll ever get married," Zhao Jian said, scratching his head. If I don’t get emotionally involved or even interact with them, I can cut off the possibility at the source.
Yu Lan glared at him. "What nonsense are you talking about? You’re my only son. If you don’t get married, what will happen to the Zhao family? If you haven’t met a good woman, just keep looking. It’s ridiculous to say you won’t get married. If I hear you say that again, you’d better watch out, or I’ll knock some sense into you."
Zhao Jian rubbed his head, not daring to argue. Instead, he just stuck his tongue out playfully at Shen Fanyun. He was the only heir; the Zhao family was counting on him to continue the family line!
"Alright then, see you in a few days," Shen Fanyun said, taking his leave.
「Leaving the hospital.」
Shen Fanyun went to Su Xiyan’s company.
Su Xiyan was frantically busy. It seemed she was negotiating a massive order; if they landed it, they could make an entire year’s profit in just three months. As a result, while Su Xiyan was incredibly motivated, she was also under immense pressure. The other party was an out-of-province investor with very strict and meticulous requirements. If the deal was secured, Su Xiyan would gain exclusive local resources in Hangcheng City.
"Working this hard?" Shen Fanyun asked, bringing a cup of hot water over to Su Xiyan.
Su Xiyan didn’t even look up. "Thanks."
"Drink first, work later," Shen Fanyun reminded her.
Su Xiyan reluctantly stopped what she was doing and shared the good news. "Hong Hai Capital is a huge corporation. If they partner with us, our company will grow so much larger."
"Hong Hai Capital?" Shen Fanyun frowned.
That was a corporation from Capital City. It was a big company, true, but its reputation was terrible. They had a history of using investments as a pretext to pull a bait-and-switch, ousting the original founders from management and taking over their companies. The corporation certainly had a top-notch instinct for investments, but its real strength lay in its legal department. Hasn’t Su Xiyan researched Hong Hai? Then again, it makes sense. This is insider knowledge. He only knows because of his connections; it’s understandable that she’d be in the dark. The only thing I don’t get is why Hong Hai Capital has suddenly taken an interest in her company and even proceeded to negotiations.
"The resources I gave you are more than enough for you to grow. Why take this unnecessary step?" Shen Fanyun asked.
Su Xiyan shook her head, her voice full of ambition. "I want to try and make it on my own. I can’t rely on you for everything. I’m going to be a powerhouse in the business world. Depending on a man to get by isn’t a viable long-term plan."
Shen Fanyun ruffled Su Xiyan’s hair. He hoped he was just overthinking things. But if Hong Hai was truly setting a trap for Su Xiyan, then... they shouldn’t blame him for being ruthless.
