Chapter 187: The Colosseum (5)

Violet watched through the viewing stone as Luna fought off her foes and managed to secure her spot in the main tournament. Her tail wagging unconsciously behind her in excitement.

Isabella had already left the waiting room to await Luna’s arrival and to guild her back to their room.

They didn’t have to wait for long till the two women walked back through the door. Violet giving her companion a wide smile when they saw each other.

"Good fight! Knew you could do it!" Whilst Violet did try to sound serious, her still wagging tail belayed her true feeling over her companions success.

"Haha it was good fun! I’m looking forward to seeing who else we might face in the tournament."

"Well you can expect to face some real heavy hitters, that free for all is designed to weed out the weak from the strong. Thankfully it seems like you both have a while to wait so you can get fully rested before the main even starts." Explained Isabella to the two excitable women.

They both nodded in understanding, yet neither seemed capable to fully relaxing, both still coming down from the high of a good fight.

It didn’t take too long for them to truly relax however, both long used to the rigors of the Endless Forest and the frequent fights to the death one can expect out there.

They idly watched the viewing stone, taking note of some of the stronger looking fighters that would appear and dominate their respective arenas.

As they were doing so they happened to notice a familiar face. A dwarven man in heavy full plate armour wielding a mighty war hammer, he was currently awaiting his time to fight, carefully observing his opponents.

"Hey, hey, isn’t that the guy we rescued outside the city?" Violet asked her friends. "What was his name again? Tear, no... tare? Hmm."

Luna squinted at the screen trying to pick out the person that Violet noted, soon she exclaimed. "Oh it’s Tyre! I didn’t think he would be participating here."

Isabella looked over at the two curiously, then turned back to the screen and looked at the fighter in question. "Ohh Lord Tyre, I didn’t know that you two knew him? How did you meet, I thought that the four of you only just arrived in the city?"

"Umm, we met him outside of it, him and his party were being surrounded by elementals. We arrived in time to help him deal with them. How do you know him Isabella?" Susan asked with a curious head tilt.

"Ahh well he used to be quite the fighter in the lower tiers, he even managed to win a couple of tournaments. Didn’t think he would end up back in the arena now that he has become a Lord in actuality."

"Wait, so do you mean that he is a noble within the city?" Susan asked.

"Hmm oh yes, his family has been on the decline for some time now, but he is still a noble regardless. I hear that he has taken up adventuring to try and reclaim some of his families prestige."

Everyone seemed to understand, well except for Violet who just looked confused. "What’s a noble?" She asked.

"Eh?" Blurted the elf in the room, looking at Violet like she is an idiot for a moment, right up until she remembered that she was still extremely young and this was her first city. "Right so nobles are basically people with an elevated status amongst everyone else."

"Hmm does that mean they are strong?"

"Not necessarily no, but nobles do tend to have some of the better training and resources available which can definitely aid in making them much stronger. Tyres family has been now to be powerful warriors."

Violet hummed in somewhat understanding, she didn’t feel that she needed to know more to understand. From her point of view they were just slightly important people that could be quite strong, a simplistic view but not exactly wrong either.

As they had been talking Tyre’s fight began, they watched as he was jumped on two sides, yet he expertly parried and retaliated against his opponents. Successfully landing a crippling blow and shattering one persons knee, from their he managed to gain the upper hand and swiftly finished off the downed opponent before rushing in to tackle the other one.

"Ohh that was quite good! I didn’t think he was this powerful, he seemed to be easily held back by the elementals when we first met him." Violet noted. Isabella hearing that curiously asked for her to elaborate on that matter.

Upon hearing the retelling and learning of the general strength of the elementals that they encountered the elf looked back at the group of friends with a blank stare.

"So, let me get this straight. Because a single master and his tier 3 party were struggling against dozens of high tier 3 elementals, along side multiple early stage Terrors and a nearly mod stage hybrid elemental Terror you considered him weak?"

Violet slowly nodded her head, quite uncertain about what she was getting at. "I mean he didn’t even manage to kill a single elemental untill we arrived, I didn’t even realise he was a Lord untill after we had saved them!"

Isabella just sighed as she processed that. Then looked away and noticed that said ’weak’ lord had just won against the second opponent and was now one of the last 3 contestants standing in his arena.

A furious clash of steel and magic ensued, with the three way battle testing each contestants limits. Skills were liberally used and all of them showed commendable skill in both offense and defence.

Soon the battle came to its climax, Tyre ducked under a wind blade sent his way, using the motion to slide forward and into range of the mage standing opposite him. The light warrior swung his sword towards the pair, a emerald arc extending off his blade and heading straight towards them both.

The mage summoned forth a shield to block the incoming blow Tyre however, he ignored the attack, trusting in his armour and instead slammed his hammer into the hasty defence of the mage. The shield of air cracked, then shattered a fraction of a second before the emerald arc slammed into both Tyre and the mage.

Whilst Tyre was able to mostly shrug off the attack thanks to his sturdy armour, the mage had no such luck. A golden glow enveloped the mage to stop the lethal attack before he soon popped out of the arena leaving the two warriors left standing.

Luna and Susan clapped excitedly upon seeing that. "Ohh that was a good move from him there! Didn’t expect him to take the risk, if his armour didn’t hold up he would have been the first one to be eliminated not the mage then." Susan commented.

"Ummu he did a good job." Violet nodded in recognition of the dwarfs strategy, it was risky but it paid off in the end so she could not fault his actions.

As the battle came to a close Isabella moved in front of the screen, capturing everyone’s attention.

"Okay you two." She said holts looking at Violet and Luna. "That was the last of the free for all fights, they will soon be announcing your positions within the tournament. Again I hope that if you happen to meet in the brackets please have a good fight! I hope that the two of you make it far!"

She smiled warmly at the two girls that she had found herself liking more and more as she spent time with them. "Now are you ready?"

Her answer was two smiling women nodding back at her as their eyes sparkled with excitement.
