Addiction to Temptation: His Mischievous Sweetheart Captivates Him-Chapter 211: Come Here, Sweetheart, Let Me Hold You
Natalie Vaughn couldn’t tell the two elders not to complain about Zane Thorne. From Gideon Sheffield’s parents’ perspective, they were indeed justified in venting their emotions towards Zane Thorne over what happened back then.
But, standing as Zane Thorne’s wife, she felt more heartache for him. He must have wanted to participate in that competition; he wouldn’t have wanted to face issues during a pre-match self-evaluation, nor did he want the accident to happen to Gideon Sheffield.
The most Natalie could do was to visit the two elders on behalf of Zane Thorne before he returned to Cinnabar.
"Aunt Sheffield, let me start the fire for you."
Aunt Sheffield was about to refuse after wiping her tears when she saw Natalie Vaughn raise four fingers.
"Don’t worry, Auntie. I surely won’t burn down your kitchen."
This sentence successfully pulled Aunt Sheffield back from her emotions, making her smile through her tears.
"You’re not worried about your white clothes?"
"Clothes can be washed, but the experience of burning firewood isn’t a frequent one."
This statement was indeed true. Despite dressing simply, Natalie Vaughn’s appearance, figure, and demeanor all spoke of her exceptional background.
Aunt Sheffield might not have seen much of the world, but having known Zane Thorne before, and Natalie being his wife, it wasn’t hard to deduce her extraordinary background.
Television often says that rich kids have bad character, but it’s nonsense. The two affluent children she’s met in her life are both top-notch.
Natalie Vaughn drove over a hundred miles to see these two old folks, still smiling despite their indifference, speaking sweetly to win their affection; how could she not be liked?
Besides, her fair and tender appearance made people naturally want to cherish her.
Having put out his cigarette, Uncle Sheffield found himself with nothing to do, began to sweep the already clean floor. After finishing, he couldn’t help but peep into the kitchen, seeing his wife crying again, and the young girl hugging her, saying something and making her laugh.
Uncle Sheffield withdrew his gaze, noticing Natalie’s bag casually placed on the table, he went over, picked it up, and made space on the entryway shelf, cleaned it thoroughly, and placed the bag there.
Having been pampered from a young age, Natalie Vaughn knew little about burning firewood, so naturally, she was left quite befuddled, her originally fair face now stained with soot.
The sound of a car came from outside the yard. The chatter between Natalie Vaughn and Aunt Sheffield abruptly stopped. Aunt Sheffield opened her eyes wide and asked Natalie.
"Does it sound like it’s stopping at my yard gate?"
Natalie’s eyes flickered, recalling that Aaron Channing mentioned how Gideon Sheffield and Zane Thorne seemed to be in a fight, but Zane chose to stay there to resolve the issue.
And now persuaded Gideon Sheffield to return.
So...
Natalie Vaughn stood up swiftly, clasping Aunt Sheffield’s hand.
"Auntie, let’s go outside and have a look."
Having realized a moment later, Aunt Sheffield followed, and upon exiting the kitchen, she saw her husband with a shocked look as well.
"Uncle, come out with us and see, it might be Zane Thorne coming back."
Smart Uncle Sheffield’s body trembled upon hearing the word "they".
"Are you saying Zane brought Jennings back?"
Natalie wasn’t entirely sure, but she had a gut feeling that it had to be Zane Thorne outside.
If he managed to come back, it meant he had convinced Gideon Sheffield.
"Why don’t we go see for ourselves?"
Thus, Zane Thorne, who had hurriedly flown back from Brythania to Cinnabar after receiving the message from his bodyguard that Natalie had visited Gideon Sheffield’s parents, was greeted with this sight.
His young girl supported Aunt Sheffield on her left and pulled Uncle Sheffield with her right hand, running over, with her face smudged with soot, her eyes lit up upon seeing him.
The sky had darkened, grey with light rain, but her eyes shone brighter than the stars above.
Zane Thorne’s chest heaved up and down; he couldn’t describe his feelings at this moment.
His little girl had quietly investigated everything behind the scenes, considering his feelings without directly asking him, had discovered things here while he was still overseas, and had rushed straight here upon returning to Cinnabar without taking a rest.
A princess pampered from childhood, driving five to six hours alone to a countryside she had never been to, to visit old folks entirely unfamiliar to her.
She knew well these elders might not warmly welcome her because of him. Zane Thorne understood; Natalie Vaughn must have felt the same indifference here as he had for the last five years.
Even if it wasn’t as intense as his experience, a proud young madam like her, when had she ever endured such treatment? And because of him, the young lady had to go out of her way to please the two elders.
Zane Thorne’s heart overflowed with emotion, reaching its peak as he looked at Natalie’s smudged face.
His little girl had even started the firewood.
Zane Thorne suddenly lifted his head, raised his hand to cover his eyes.
"Zane Thorne! I knew it was you!"
The crisp sound of the young girl’s voice rang, and Zane Thorne lowered his head to look, removing his hand, and opened his arms towards Natalie.
"Come here."
Natalie glanced at the two elders beside her, hesitated for a moment.
The man’s voice was tight.
"Come over, be good, let me hold you."
Then, Natalie let go of the hands supporting the two elders and ran towards Zane Thorne, lifting her leg.
How long had it been since they last met?
days.
Too long, too long without seeing each other.
Natalie ran faster and faster, darting into Zane’s embrace.
The man reached out to hold her waist, and Natalie naturally wrapped her legs around his waist.
Despite the impact, Zane remained steady.
Feeling the familiar warmth of the embrace, smelling Zane’s familiar scent, Natalie couldn’t help but rub her face against his neck.
She had really wanted to say many things to Zane Thorne, but at this moment, she couldn’t find the words, not a single sentence.
The man held her tightly, so tight that she almost couldn’t breathe.
Natalie gently patted Zane’s back, signaling him to loosen up a bit, but he was unmoved, instead burying his head fiercely into Natalie’s neck, deeply inhaling her scent.
Understanding that Zane missed her as much as she missed him, Natalie’s heart softened even more, raising her hand to gently stroke his hair, which had grown longer.
She softly asked.
"How come you’re so quick to come?"
Zane nuzzled her, unable to resist planting a kiss on the side of her face.
"I went to Kensingport."
Natalie’s pupils constricted, wanting to lift her head from Zane’s embrace to look at him, but his hold was too firm, she could only continue resting against his neck.
"What do you mean?"
"Flight delayed, reached when you had returned."
Then when he returned, Natalie had arrived here.
Natalie blinked, quickly realizing the meaning behind Zane’s words.
What could he be doing flying to Kensingport? Surely to see her, maybe to give her a surprise.
She smelled the heavy scent of smoke on him.
"You rushed here right after getting off the plane?"
