Addiction to Temptation: His Mischievous Sweetheart Captivates Him-Chapter 163: Do You Need Me to Chase You?
The couple resumed their long-distance life again. But unlike before, they didn’t have any arguments or silent treatments.
Every night, they would video call each other. Sometimes it was Quentin Donovan who initiated the call, but more often than not, it was Natalie Vaughn. Because Quentin was always busy, only during the time Natalie called him on video would he seriously relax.
Natalie heard a lot about Quentin from James Vaughn, like how after returning to the Thorne Group, he aggressively and decisively initiated major reforms. Director Thorne, who is Quentin’s father, intentionally turned a blind eye, actually using Quentin to eliminate the toxic elements within the group.
Apart from James, she also heard a lot of praise for Quentin from Mr. Vaughn.
People in the circle said Quentin’s methods were ruthless, attacking invisibly yet lethally; others said that Quentin’s return to the Thorne Group brought a new strength, indicating that the group’s dynamics were about to change; some even said that the Thorne Family rose too quickly, having produced a Director Thorne, and now a Quentin; talents abound. Some even lamented that Quentin got married too quickly.
Natalie found it amusing when she heard these things. Some of the older, more established families always have an unexplainable sense of superiority towards new rising families, even when their own strength is gradually being caught up by the Thorne Family, they are unwilling to let go of such prejudices. Now that they realize Quentin is a rare business genius and has a connection to GN Group, they shamelessly try to associate with him.
She could even imagine those people’s vile tactics, finding a good opportunity to send their daughters to Quentin’s bed.
Of course, even after Quentin got married, they might still adopt such plans. Perhaps they think it’s just a marriage alliance, and Quentin has no real feelings for her, Natalie Vaughn.
All this Natalie heard from Phoebe Quinn, who not only held significant positions in Quinn Corporation but also attended gatherings planned by the daughters in the circle, allowing her to get more information than Natalie.
"Nina, God Thorne is quite the hot commodity now. A bunch of women are eyeing him, and since you’re not in Astra City right now, some shameless ones might do something bold."
Natalie wasn’t worried at all. She was certain Quentin wouldn’t be tempted by superficial women; a man like him would disdain such petty tactics.
Sure enough, two days later, Phoebe brought news that the youngest daughter of the Coleman Family used family connections to sneak into Quentin’s hotel room, only to be thrown out by him, and the next day the Coleman Family faced pressure from Quentin.
Natalie only listened to these stories, never mentioning them to Quentin. Every time they video called, she could see the fatigue in his eyes.
Indeed, handling matters of two groups, no matter how excellent he is, would be extremely tiring.
Natalie wasn’t afraid of disturbing Quentin. She called Seraphina Sutton and learned that only during the video calls with her did Quentin truly relax. With such an attitude, it’s no wonder he previously worked himself into getting a stomach ailment.
Tonight, Natalie was about an hour late in calling Quentin due to a mishap while practicing driving.
As soon as the call connected, the man eagerly asked.
"Why are you so late today? Did you finish work late?"
Natalie gave a vague response. Typically, if she was late, Quentin would call her first.
"And you? Just finished being busy?"
"Yeah, just finished a meeting."
Natalie had taken a fall, hurting her arm, and holding the phone for the video call was uncomfortable. So she sat at a makeshift bar in the room, set up her phone, and poured herself a drink.
"I heard from Felix Langdon that you’re intentionally making things difficult for him on the Sunderfall project. Why?"
Quentin tossed the documents he was holding to the side and rubbed his temples.
"I’m just following the usual procedures."
Felix only unconsciously thought that meeting with Quentin would make the project cooperation much easier.
Natalie sipped her drink, her fingers playing with her slightly damp hair.
"Is it because of me?"
After facing difficulties with Quentin, Felix, filled with anger, called Natalie to vent about Quentin’s behavior. He couldn’t understand why Quentin was making the project troublesome, even though it wouldn’t fall apart, it was a hassle.
Upon reflection, Felix could only think of Natalie as the reason but didn’t understand what he did to offend her, prompting Quentin’s actions.
Quentin didn’t directly answer Natalie’s question but furrowed his brows and scrutinized her.
"You’ve lost weight again."
Others gain weight in winter, but Natalie keeps getting slimmer.
Natalie’s expression paused, then she nonchalantly smiled.
"Shooting films, it’s quite normal. I’m an actress now."
But in reality, she was increasing her driving practice every night to master the personal tilting habit Quentin learned from Quentin Donovan, and also because Jay Sterling and others would be heading back to Astra City for training in a couple of days, meaning she only had the remaining days to intensify her practice.
Quentin gazed deeply at Natalie. He knew every night after work, Natalie would still go out and return only in the early morning.
He never questioned, out of respect for Natalie. But that didn’t mean he was indifferent or could ignore it.
"Baby, I support whatever you do, but you must prioritize your health. You’re too thin now."
When filming, especially hanging from wires, requires core strength. If she loses much more weight, he seriously doubted her slender waist could handle the strain.
"Got it, I eat a lot every day. So is it really because of me?"
Quentin gave a cold snort, his eyes narrowing, filled with dissatisfaction towards Felix.
Seeing his reaction, Natalie guessed correctly; it was likely because Quentin saw her suffering during filming and, unable to intervene directly, took it out on Felix.
Thinking about it, Natalie’s heart felt as if it was filled with honey. In a good mood, she was even willing to say a word for Felix.
"If it weren’t for this role, I wouldn’t have accepted this film. But I find this role quite fun."
What could Quentin say to that? There was nothing to say, only helplessly indulging Natalie.
"By the way, how long will Felix and Quinn Langley continue their entanglement? I feel Quinn still has feelings for Felix."
Quentin seemed reluctant to discuss Felix’s matters with Natalie.
"A grown man still can’t pursue a woman, why do you care?"
That’s indeed a point. Knowing what Felix did previously, Natalie only felt he was still a greenhorn in love.
Awkward and immature.
"Tsk, you didn’t really pursue me either, yet you talk as if you’re such an expert."
Quentin’s lips curved into a smile.
"Did you need me to pursue you?"
Natalie frowned.
"Why not?"
The man let out a low laugh.
"How do I remember you were the one always seducing me at the start?"
Natalie: ...
