Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Of Course Zane Thorne Is Number One

Zane Thorne couldn’t fathom why Natalie Vaughn’s attitude had changed so quickly. Earlier, when he went in, he’d been kicked out, but now what’s she doing again?

Nevertheless, his wife’s emotions have always been quite jumpy, so he didn’t find it too strange.

Isn’t it great that Natalie is being gentle with him? He couldn’t wish for more. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Did you come because you smelled it?"

Natalie nodded, her focus on the leg of lamb that had started sizzling with oil. Due to filming lately, she had actually been restraining her cravings. Don’t be fooled by her habit of buying skewers; she only ate a tiny bit herself, the rest ended up with Summer Churchill.

Besides, she only had a little to eat at noon, and now she’s already hungry.

Zane was holding Natalie’s hand with one hand and grilling the leg of lamb with the other.

"Wait a bit, eat something they’ve grilled first to fill your stomach."

The few guys looked rather impatient, but they were quite patient when it came to grilling. As soon as Zane spoke, they all brought their prized creations to Natalie.

"Sister-in-law, you must taste them well, and rank us!"

Jay Sterling even prepared a cup of water for Natalie to cleanse her palate after each bite, preventing it from affecting the next one.

After tasting everything, her stomach was about full. Natalie thought for a moment before announcing the rankings.

But there was no first place.

Theodore Langdon, who got second place, was not pleased.

"Sister-in-law, mine was clearly the tastiest, how come I’m only second."

Upon hearing this, Zane, who was grilling the lamb’s leg, curved his lips in satisfaction, his eyebrows soaring, and his eyes flaring as he looked at Natalie.

And under Zane’s anticipation, Natalie finally stopped being angry at him and said the answer he wanted to hear.

As Natalie chuckled softly, her eyebrows completely relaxed, her eyes flirtatiously shifting, the tail of her eyes slightly tilted, charmingly and alluringly glancing at Zane.

"I haven’t eaten what your Mr. Thorne has grilled for me yet."

The two exchanged a gaze filled with affection, especially Natalie’s pair of dreamy eyes, shimmering with moisture, even though it was a cold winter night, it felt like spring, full of warmth and romance.

Even Zane, being looked at by Natalie like this, was moved, and just like that, in front of everyone, he stretched out his hand, drew Natalie closer, and bit her lip.

Then Zane raised his mischievous head, boastfully and brazenly looking at the dazed youngsters.

"With me here, would you stand a chance for first place?"

This statement snapped the dumbfounded people back to reality, and they began to protest.

"Mr. Thorne, you’re playing favorites."

"Mr. Thorne, sister-in-law, you can’t bully us singles like this!"

"I’m still young! Why do I have to see this!"

"I want a girlfriend too!"

Jay Sterling, who had almost been first, was completely unsatisfied.

"Sister-in-law, you have to give an explanation, you can’t just give Zane first place because he’s your husband, you should be fair and impartial!"

Upon hearing this, before Natalie could speak, Zane frowned in displeasure at Jay.

"Your sister-in-law is very fair."

Jay started getting agitated.

"Fair? Zane, your leg of lamb isn’t even done yet! Sister-in-law hasn’t even tasted it! Besides, every time we barbecue, you sit around like a lord, refusing to lift a finger. Mr. Langdon said you’re great at this, huh! I don’t believe it, we’ve never tasted your cooking, there’s no way you can still be good after not doing it for so long!"

Hearing this, Zane raised his eyebrows slightly, looking at Jay with deep meaning.

"Why should your belief concern me? Your sister-in-law has tasted it before!"

Jay widened his eyes, looking at Natalie, still unwilling to believe.

"Sister-in-law, you’ve tasted it?"

Natalie had been smiling slightly, sided glancing at Zane, boasting to the bunch of boys, then nodded, giving Zane some justice.

"I have tasted it, what your Mr. Thorne grilled is indeed better."

She didn’t say it too bluntly to spare Jay’s face, even though on the day she registered, she hadn’t gotten a leg of lamb, but she did stuff herself with many scattered pieces.

And admittedly, though Zane was arrogant and reluctant to often cook, his skills were indeed superb, from childhood to now, the best grilled meat she ever tasted was from his hands.

Seeing Natalie say that, Jay found no real meaning in continuing the argument. Besides, tonight’s supposed contest was all to please Natalie, to celebrate her birthday.

Jay was easygoing, and rapidly adjusted his thinking, now okay with not getting first. Being just behind Mr. Thorne wasn’t bad at all!

He had always respected and admired Zane and considered him his idol, losing to an idol was no shame.

"Sister-in-law, do you want to hear a song?"

Natalie looked over, puzzled, seeing Jay shyly scratching his cheek.

"Training’s so dull every day, we learned some instruments in our free time, this barbecue was just foreplay, we’ve rehearsed a song for you to hear."

Natalie quickly turned to Zane, obviously aware that the man knew about this, as he toyed with her now warmed hand.

"They’re excited about it, you should listen."

As soon as Natalie nodded, Jay called his brothers to bring out the instruments from the house. At first glance, it seemed quite professional, complete with microphones and sound systems.

But all five grabbed instruments, with two working on a very simple stage setup, leaving the spot meant for the lead singer empty.

Natalie raised an eyebrow, looking at Zane.

"You aren’t going up there to sing for me, are you?"

Yet, Natalie’s suspicion was just slight, as Zane wouldn’t have the time to practice with them. Since it was a birthday gift meant for her, it had to be serious.

This much she was confident about.

Upon hearing Natalie’s doubt, Zane raised an eyebrow and asked.

"Do you want to hear me sing?"

Natalie was surprised.

"Can you sing?"

Zane snorted coldly.

"No."

When Theo used to play new songs around him, it only annoyed him, leaving him with no interest to listen, much less to sing.

Natalie wanted to ask more, but a very familiar intro suddenly sounded, making her turn back around abruptly.

The tardy lead had already stood behind the mic.

It was Theodore Langdon.

That explained it all, she liked Theo’s music, so Jay and his gang rehearsed one of Theo’s songs, and got Theo himself as the lead singer.

Completely sensible.

Natalie being a fan of Theo was an undeniable fact, though, with Zane in the picture, she didn’t have that distant idol-fan feel anymore, occasionally teasing Theo, but whenever he sang, she was the epitome of a smitten fan girl.

This song completely captured her, while Zane beside her felt a mix of emotions.

On one hand, happy that Natalie loved the gift, yet seeing her so entranced, recalling she was a fan of Theo, a hint of jealousy bubbled inside him.

Did that guy Theo’s singing sound this good?

Zane listened for quite a while, his brows furrowing.

Still just as noisy and bland as ever.
