Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Natalie Vaughn’s Distress

Hearing those words from Natalie Vaughn, Zane Thorne chuckled softly. There was nothing to worry about, only his gaze always couldn’t help but settle on her, and once she left, he wanted to follow.

However, the words coming out of his mouth weren’t so tender.

"Afraid you’ll stumble if your waist is sore and your legs are weak."

As expected, as soon as he spoke, Zane received an eye roll from Natalie.

"Just wait, once I recover, I’ll definitely fight you."

Zane laughed lowly, his chest trembling, finding Natalie looking utterly amusing. His eyes were filled with endless affection and tenderness.

"Alright, I’m waiting."

Hearing Zane’s tone, Natalie thought he was certain she couldn’t beat him. She raised her head angrily, intending to argue, but instead met his deeply affectionate eyes.

Zane always said her eyes were beautiful, but actually, his eyes were equally dazzling.

Such deep eye sockets, even if the inside seemed calm and indifferent like water, there’s always an irresistible urge to explore further. Moreover, when he looked at her, the calm surface was always broken, filled with helplessness, affection, and tenderness.

A person like Zane, associated with affection and tenderness, indeed had a dangerous allure.

Natalie’s momentum unknowingly weakened. Facing someone like Zane, she couldn’t be tough, just said one sentence.

"You’d better go roast some lamb leg for me."

The man had a smile in his eyes and tapped her perky nose with his finger.

"Little glutton. Eat so much, yet you still don’t gain weight?"

Not only did she not gain weight, she even lost quite a bit.

Without thinking, Natalie responded.

"Please, I’m an actress now, got to have some professional integrity, right?"

The truth was, because of her inability to gain weight and the high-intensity shooting, she didn’t need much dietary control to remain like this. Even Zoe Chandler worried she wasn’t getting enough protein and might not handle the wire scenes well.

Zane reached out and pinched Natalie’s face, tugging gently a couple of times.

"Indeed, having an actress at home is quite impressive."

In the past, pinching Natalie’s face gave a bit of flesh, now it just feels too thin. Thinking about it, Zane frowned.

Come to think of it, he still hadn’t seen Natalie in action on set.

Barbecue timing is crucial, and last time Natalie didn’t get to eat lamb leg. This time, Zane couldn’t let her be disappointed, so after chatting a bit, he returned to the yard.

With just one glance, Genevieve Joyce quickly put down her things and rushed over.

"The midnight flight was canceled, I’ll return a day later."

Genevieve paused, then nodded.

"Got it, President Thorne."

Whenever there’s a task, Genevieve’s elite demeanor becomes particularly prominent. She always worked meticulously, so Zane had transferred her to Veridia for this major project.

When Natalie came out, Genevieve had just finished rescheduling the flight, making a call to Seraphina Sutton.

On the other end, Seraphina seemed anxious, and Genevieve knitted her brows tightly.

"President Thorne has his arrangements, delay things on your end a bit longer."

Hearing this, Natalie thought back to Zane’s recent hectic schedule. It seemed, for him to fly to Veridia, he had postponed quite a bit of work.

"Assistant Joyce."

Natalie spoke up, and Genevieve quickly said something brief to Seraphina before hanging up and rushing over to Natalie.

"Madam."

Natalie got straight to the point.

"How much did he postpone to come here? When is he going back?"

Genevieve hesitated for a moment, seeing Natalie’s firm eyes, any thought of hiding the truth disappeared.

"Today he was supposed to have a dinner with Chairman Fletcher, which was postponed. Originally, he was flying to Astra City at midnight; President Thorne just said he’d return a day later, and there’s a Thorne Group shareholders’ meeting tomorrow."

After hearing this, Natalie’s brows furrowed tightly.

Both the meeting with Chairman Fletcher and the shareholders’ meeting of The Thorne Group were significant events, even crucial for Zane’s future career.

But because it was her birthday, he didn’t hesitate to postpone. If she hadn’t overheard Genevieve on the phone tonight, Zane probably wouldn’t have told her. Afterward, he’d work hard to manage everything without her knowing.

Natalie’s lips tightened, turning pale.

When she was silent, the intimidating aura around her was somewhat like Zane’s. Genevieve, seeing this, started feeling apprehensive, questioning whether she shouldn’t have told Natalie. Finally, Natalie spoke up.

"I understand, don’t tell him."

Genevieve quickly agreed.

Once she left, Natalie stood under the corridor, watching the man in the yard for a long time.

He had a cigarette between his teeth, the white smoke swirling in the air, reluctant to disperse, making his eyes squint slightly. The dot of fire was particularly glaringly red in the night. He didn’t know what he was thinking, frowning occasionally, sometimes joking with the kids from the club, other times chuckling.

He carried a bit of nonchalance and laziness, yet his superior facial features and brows meant he didn’t need to do much to exude an arrogant aura, one that people couldn’t help but be in awe of.

Such a person, seemingly careless, was always minding the lamb leg he was roasting for her. It was a spontaneous idea, unable to arrange a whole lamb, this leg was something he specifically asked Genevieve to buy, a single portion only.

Jay Sterling might have been drawn by the smell and came over, wanting to have a sniff, but was met with a fierce glare from Zane.

"That’s for your sister-in-law, don’t you dare think about it."

Jay half-jokingly shouted that Zane only had eyes for Natalie, saying Zane was henpecked.

The man merely smiled without refuting.

It was then that Natalie noticed the faint fatigue in his eyes. Of course, after returning, he had been working non-stop for ten days, and during that time, due to arguments and cold wars with her, he was so stressed he ended up in the hospital. Freshly discharged, he came to see her without delay.

And they had such a commotion last night.....

Yet whenever he looked at her, his eyes always held affection and indulgence, teasing her occasionally but with undiminished deep feeling in his eyes.

What about her?

She’s still angry over last night’s intensity, threatening a fight once she’s recovered.

Suddenly, Natalie’s eyes felt moist.

Under the winter night sky, the sparse stars seemed lonely, and the man sitting under it, barbecuing a leg for her, seemed to be enveloped in a layer of solitude too.

Natalie took a sharp breath, unable to suppress the heartache and regret.

She shouldn’t have argued, shouldn’t have given the cold shoulder.

Zane always said she was a little heartless, a claim she always denied.

Now she realized, Zane was right. She always prioritized her own feelings, a habit hard to change, so much so she overlooked Zane without even realizing.

But she’s not ungrateful; she knows how good Zane is to her.

Natalie inhaled, composed herself, and walked behind Zane, covering his eyes with her hands.

Playfully asked.

"Who am I?"

The man smiled, raising his hand to hold Natalie’s hand.

"Why are you out here?"

Natalie insisted on asking.

"Who am I?"

Zane smiled and pulled Natalie’s hand to his lips, kissing it lightly.

"My wife."

Natalie contentedly wrapped her arms around his neck, her whole body leaning on his back. Her nose twitched slightly.

"Smells so good."

Zane raised an eyebrow, hooking a chair over with his long leg for her to sit.

"Why aren’t you getting some sleep? Your hands are freezing, warm them up."

Playfully, Natalie placed her hand on Zane’s face and asked.

"Cold?"

The man’s eyes flickered slightly, but before he could respond, Natalie leaned in, kissing the spot where her hand had been.

"Let me blow on it."
