Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Iris

Natalie Vaughn had never spoken to Zane Thorne about any clothing design, so the shock from seeing this work was indescribable.

Even if Zane knew what she had studied before, how did he know about her graduation design project? She didn’t even know any information about that passerby, so how did Zane find out?

For a moment, too many questions clouded her mind, and Natalie asked.

"How did you find it?"

As it happened, the wife of a partner from GN Group recently acquired a quite nice dress, but since it didn’t fit, she couldn’t wear it, so she specially sought an expert to place it in a private collection.

The partner was famous for doting on his wife, and during a casual chat, Zane didn’t pay much attention to the matter.

Until they went out for a game and met that lady, who then mentioned again that the designer of that dress was named Kristin.

Zane didn’t understand the fashion world, but he knew what his wife studied and what stage name she used. So he asked the lady to look at the dress and called James Vaughn, only to learn the story of how Natalie had casually given her work to a passerby.

This dress had a beautiful name: Iris

A pale purple gown with gold threads, the flowing hem exuded elegance, its main theme being noble and cold. Yet, the high slit on the left leg added a touch of boldness and playfulness, as if loudly asserting its dominance, flamboyant yet reasonable.

When Zane saw the dress, what came to his mind was Natalie Vaughn herself.

He’d seen the few designs Natalie had made; her creations were full of genius, especially this graduation piece, where ingenuity blended with her own essence.

Isn’t that just like Natalie? Spoiled from a young age, carrying an air of aloof elegance; in front of others, she’s a noble and icy lady, but with those she knows well, she can be mischievous, pretending to be obedient, becoming lively and spirited.

She’s beautiful, boldly beautiful.

This dress is much the same.

It was the moment he saw Iris that Zane decided he had to buy this dress back. It was originally designed by Natalie; it belonged to her and should stay by her side. Only she could and should wear it.

So he asked that lady for it, knowing it was indelicate to snatch it away, and she too was fond of the dress and reluctant to part with it. Yet, upon learning that the designer was Zane’s wife, her resolve weakened.

The lady asked a question.

"Why did your wife abandon Iris in the first place?"

Zane didn’t know the answer, but he gave a perfect response, one that convinced the lady utterly.

He pulled out his phone and showed the lady a photo he had taken of Natalie before.

"My wife has been waiting for Iris’s return."

The photo was simply of Natalie in casual clothes, sitting cross-legged on the sofa, absorbed in reading a script. No makeup adorned her face, and her hair was carelessly tied up—no striking beauty to speak of.

Yet there was an undeniable allure that made one want to look a little longer.

After seeing the photo, the lady sighed.

"Your wife has very beautiful eyes."

If Iris’s original owner is waiting for her return, what use is there to keep her?

Zane was not explicit, but Natalie understood how much fate it took to reclaim Iris. At that time, she was young and hot-blooded, relying on her talent, even gifting Iris to a passerby.

"Want to try it on?"

Zane thought his little girl would look absolutely stunning in that dress.

Yet Natalie shook her head.

Generally, such pieces are made to standard model measurements, so average people can’t wear them, and she probably couldn’t either.

But Zane persisted.

"Trust me, you can wear it."

He knew her size well enough, having just felt her waist, not purely in a flirty manner. Recently, she had suffered quite a bit and lost a lot of weight.

Seeing Natalie’s hesitancy, Zane continued to gently persuade her.

"Iris is yours and only for you. Do you want someone else to wear this dress?"

Natalie shook her head.

In theory, her designs were meant for others to wear, except for Iris. This dress involved too many personal elements; seeing it on someone else would feel wrong.

This is why Zane wanted to buy Iris back the moment he laid eyes on it.

Iris could only belong to Natalie Vaughn.

Eventually, Zane’s persuasion worked, and Natalie went into the bathroom to try on Iris for the first time, while Zane patiently waited outside.

About ten minutes later, Natalie opened the door, though she didn’t come out. Instead, she waved at Zane.

"The zipper’s stuck. Can you help me?"

The dress’s size was indeed tricky; even though Natalie had slimmed down considerably, it took considerable effort to put it on.

Zane glanced at that fair hand, chuckled lowly, and coaxed softly.

"It’s just the two of us in here, just come out."

Seeing his point, Natalie didn’t fuss, covered her chest with one hand, held the hem with the other, and walked out.

Zane’s originally casual amusement gradually faded, replaced by a seriously appreciative gaze at Natalie wearing Iris.

What was the thought then? That only Natalie could wear Iris. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

The pale purple was just too perfect for her.

Her complexion was fair and delicate, and the thin, light purple fabric accentuated her tender, translucent skin, while she brought Iris to life, adding a touch of spirit.

The dress and the woman melded as one, the gold trim making them glow like stardust. The sheer fabric above the chest alluringly concealed, drawing the eye to explore the mysteries of purple. Natalie’s refined collarbones and graceful swan neck further elevated her noble demeanor. Her eyes, like pools of water, calm and composed, carried an additional touch of icy elegance.

But in the instant she saw Zane, her gaze shifted, the corners of her eyes lifted, resembling a lake surface shattered by a stone, suddenly transformed.

From cold and abstinent to incredibly seductive in an instant.

Zane was somewhat mesmerized. His girl, his Mrs. Thorne, was simply breathtaking. That innocent face, yet the charm was undeniable between her brows and eyes.

How could anyone blend these two contradictory qualities together so harmoniously?

Seeing him stand still, lost in thought, Natalie frowned slightly.

"Why are you standing there dumbly, come help me."

The man’s sexy Adam’s apple rolled intensely a few times, his hand hanging beside his leg clenched tightly, veins on the back of his hand popping, unknowingly his breath became a lot heavier.

Zane stepped forward, moving behind Natalie.

Natalie turned her head to urge him, her hair simply fastened with a claw clip, a few strands gracefully falling by her face, enhancing her beauty in an almost fragile sense.

The man lowered his gaze to Natalie’s fair, flawless, jade-like back, instantly his eyes were suffused with a shade of red.
