Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Madam Lost 5 Pounds

Zane Thorne was shouted at by Natalie Vaughn and then hung up on; anger flared up as he tossed his phone onto the bed and placed his hands on his hips.

What kind of bad temper is this? We hadn’t even exchanged a few words before she exploded.

Zane Thorne kicked towards the sofa but then remembered how much Natalie liked it and reluctantly stopped. Zane wasn’t someone with a good temper either. To be shouted at and hung up on by Natalie, that felt quite unpleasant.

The favored son of heaven, when had he ever been treated like this by anyone? It was always him doing such things. In the nearly thirty years of his life before this, he had never indulged anyone, but in just a few months, he didn’t know how many times he had compromised for Natalie Vaughn.

In the silent deep night, the man’s deep breaths echoed in the room that still lingered with Natalie Vaughn’s scent. After about five minutes, the man somewhat calmed down, picked up the phone, and called Natalie again, only to find that her phone was already off.

Zane Thorne frowned, opened WeChat, prepared to make a video call, but found out he had been blocked.

Great.

This time, Zane Thorne directly threw the phone to the ground.

Natalie Vaughn, you’ve done well.

...

Just like that, the couple suddenly began a cold war.

Natalie Vaughn carried on filming as usual, and after filming, she’d slip away to practice driving with Jay Sterling, but she returned even later each night, almost at one in the morning back to the hotel.

Living on less than six hours of sleep per day and staying suspended in harnesses for filming, without any dietary control, Natalie surprisingly lost ten pounds.

Summer Churchill was simply kept in the dark, but Zoe Chandler, being more seasoned, finally learned that Natalie was going out every night just for Zane. This was exactly what puzzled her—why had Natalie not been very happy lately?

She heard from Summer that Natalie kept checking her phone more often than usual, but each time only for a few minutes before putting it down, as if she had some quarrel with Zane.

Couldn’t figure it out, really couldn’t figure it out.

As for Zane, due to his semi-vacation earlier, GN Group’s matters had piled up to the point where he had to work twenty-four hours. Moreover, because he had already made an appearance, everyone wanted a chance to meet with him, some unnecessary meetings he pushed off, but some he had to attend.

Furthermore, Mr. Thorne had no pity for his own son, planning to gradually hand over The Thorne Group to Zane at this critical juncture.

Zane had no time to spare, wishing he could split himself in two. Yet, even so, each night he’d still find time to listen to Genevieve Joyce’s reports.

Since their argument that day, he instructed the bodyguard to keep a good distance, only to report some basic information about Natalie.

That Natalie went out every night and didn’t return until around one in the morning, he knew, but he never had the bodyguard investigate what exactly Natalie was up to.

Today, Genevieve reported as usual.

"Mrs. Vaughn returned to the hotel ten minutes later than usual tonight."

Zane’s eyebrows were furrowing just as Genevieve added.

"Mrs. Vaughn had a late-night snack, but the bodyguard couldn’t see what exactly she was eating."

Zane’s mind suddenly conjured up the scene of Natalie strolling up to a late-night snack stall in the middle of the night, and he laughed shortly.

What else could it be? Definitely some bold-flavored stuff again.

After laughing, Zane realized something was wrong, and his face dropped.

"Okay."

"But, Mrs. Vaughn’s schedule has been very tight during this time, and she goes out every night for nearly two and a half hours, and she’s lost ten pounds."

Zane paused with the papers he was reviewing, his brows knitting tightly.

"What did you say?"

"Mrs. Vaughn lost ten pounds."

Zane tossed the pen aside and stood up, staring at the twinkling lights below, realizing it was already two o’clock in the night.

"Then have the director make her schedule lighter."

Genevieve let out a bitter laugh.

"I have already checked; it’s Mrs. Vaughn’s own request."

Zane raised his hand and rubbed his temples. With Natalie’s stubbornness, no one could change what she had decided. If he forcibly had the director rearrange things, Natalie might throw a fit if she found out.

Headache.

"Have the items I asked you to buy arrived?"

"They’ve already been delivered to the vault; you can pick them up anytime."

Zane acknowledged, hung up the phone, and hit the intercom in his office, summoning another assistant to hand over the reviewed documents.

"Clear my schedule for next Wednesday."

Seraphina Sutton was taken aback.

"But next Wednesday, you have a dinner with Director Fletcher of Zenith Group."

Zane lifted his eyes to Seraphina without saying a word, a look that made her shiver all over, the haze from working late into the night dissipating quickly, and she came to her senses.

Bowed her head in agreement.

"Okay, President Thorne, I’ll reschedule with Chairman Fletcher."

How could she forget, what President Thorne said was an instruction, not a consultation.

Seraphina took the documents back to her workstation, annoyed, and tapped her head, reclining on her chair with a long sigh. She had been pulling near all-nighters for almost a week now and her body was really struggling to keep up.

Her gaze inadvertently swept across the calendar on the desk, where her eyes stopped, and she realized she had circled next Wednesday heavily in red ink.

Seraphina slapped her head again.

How could she forget, next Wednesday is Mrs. Vaughn’s birthday.

Really lost in the busyness.

...

As for Natalie’s weight loss, because Jim Archer was involved, it was impossible to hide it from James Vaughn, and to prevent her parents from worrying, Natalie had no choice but to tell James the truth, then rope him in to say some good things in front of their parents.

After hearing that Natalie was out every night learning to ride a motorcycle, James fell silent for a long time. Natalie had never had a knack for vehicles since she was a child. Back then, she could even break her leg riding a bicycle, so she naturally had little interest in vehicles.

And now, after work, she would still run out to practice riding. What could it be for?

"Because of Zane Thorne?"

During this time, Natalie was in a cold war with Zane, so upon hearing this, she felt a bit uneasy.

"I’m not doing it for him; I just think motorcycles are cool."

James let out a snort.

"Don’t I know you?"

Natalie pouted, but in the end, she didn’t continue to deny it.

"I think Zane is happiest when he’s driving, whether it’s racing or on a motorcycle."

So, she wanted to one day enjoy the thrill of speed alongside Zane. Not just sitting in the back seat, but riding side by side.

James was happy to see Natalie displaying such effort out of love and passion, as it showed she was experiencing the world’s most romantic emotion. But as her brother, he couldn’t help but feel heartache.

"There’s no need to work yourself so hard. Isn’t filming tiring enough?"

Natalie shook her head.

"Brother, Vivian sent me an email inviting me to her show, and Bartley will be there too. It’s time for me to pick up my career again."

James understood then; this was so she could finish filming early to attend the show.

"Then why not postpone learning to ride?"

"No, Zane is very sharp. I want to give him a surprise, so he can’t find out about this. Right, brother, you’re not allowed to say anything either."

James:...

He really couldn’t manage his grown-up little sister anymore, and he sighed.

"Then what about your birthday? In a few days, you’ll be turning 24. You can’t possibly spend it in Veridia, can you?"

"I’ve no time."

"Mom and Dad miss you, they won’t agree to you staying in Veridia for your birthday."

"That’s why I have you."

James:...

"I don’t agree either."

"I talked to your sister-in-law on the phone, she’s going to the show too, you help me soothe Mom and Dad, and I’ll take care of your wife."

James:...

How was he not aware that Tanya Donovan was going to Kensingport for the show?
