Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Husband and Wife Quarreling

Felix seemed to have been waiting for a long time, immediately answered the phone without waiting for Zane to speak, and quickly said gloatingly.

"Wow, your wife is so charming; even Julian Sutton, who’s been single forever, couldn’t resist."

Zane squinted his eyes, catching a hint of meaning.

"Can’t handle Quinn, so you’re seeking balance with me?"

Felix: ...

"Mr. Thorne, you can’t say that, the photo is very clear, your wife and Julian Sutton are chatting quite happily."

Zane stared at the photo, snorting in discontent. He was familiar with Natalie Vaughn; the warmth in her eyes and the smile on her lips surely indicated she was having a good time.

What did he say before leaving? No flirting around, yet just as he left, she chatted away with a male actor, laughing and having fun.

She’s a disobedient little girl, absolutely asking for a lesson! Zane’s mood plummeted instantly; he even thought of the marriage ties, returning to stay at Rivermark Apartments.

"If I recall correctly, your wife’s role and Julian Sutton’s role have some emotional scenes too."

Zane: ...

This is what Natalie Vaughn said was just a minor role?

He wasn’t in the mood to listen to Felix’s nonsense anymore, so Zane hung up the phone, intending to call Natalie but was interrupted by a call from Genevieve Joyce.

"Speak."

His tone was icy, anyone could tell he was on the verge of anger, especially Genevieve who was familiar with him for years.

Genevieve paused for a moment, but professionalism made her speak up, albeit nervously.

"A call from the bodyguards reported that Madame left the hotel at around 10:30 p.m. tonight, but she disguised herself and tricked the guards. When they realized, she’d already disappeared; she appeared at a food stall on the street next to the hotel at 11:50, bought a bucket of skewers, and returned to the hotel at 12:05."

Zane listened, his brows knitted tightly.

"What are the people you hired doing?"

Genevieve felt chills down her spine, her throat dry.

"Nobody expected Madame to go out again after finishing filming at ten. Madame... seems to have intentionally shaken off the bodyguards."

Zane walked to the window, looking at the river view, his brows never relaxed.

Finished filming so late without resting, intentionally shaking off bodyguards with unknown whereabouts; what could be done in over an hour?

"How did she feel when she returned?"

Genevieve hired expert bodyguards, the report was thorough.

"Madame was in a great mood, really enjoyed eating those skewers."

Zane snorted coldly, how could she not be happy? He was there keeping her in check, not allowing her any freedom, and she couldn’t resist just as he left.

She’s such a little foodie.

"Alright, since she’s shaken off the bodyguards, that means she’s unwilling for me to know. Keep some distance; I want her safe and happy."

Zane understood Natalie Vaughn was uninterested in him arranging for bodyguards around her. Her stubbornness had persuaded the Vaughn Family not to arrange bodyguards for over a decade; that she agreed to his arrangement exceeded his expectations.

Genevieve hearing this felt it was indeed hard on the bodyguards; so what could she do? She could only trouble the bodyguards, after all, they were paid.

"Understood."

Hanging up, Zane originally intended to call Natalie but thinking about her roaming around late at night to buy skewers, he hesitated and opted to use a video call on WeChat for the first time.

Natalie had just returned to her room when she received the video call, planning to shower before resting again. Seeing it was Zane, she hurriedly changed clothes, slipped into her pajamas, and lay on the bed before answering.

She pulled the blanket up to cover half her face, rubbed her eyes to make herself appear drowsy, even pretended to yawn.

"Why are you suddenly video calling? You woke me up!"

She intentionally softened her voice, with an upward tone, unintentionally mixing in a bit of affection and irritation, really seeming like she was woken.

Zane raised an eyebrow, seeing the time was past twelve; she must have returned not long ago.

"You were sleeping just now?"

Natalie snorted softly.

"Yeah, I was almost asleep, then your video call woke me!"

Zane noticed the bright lights in the room, contemplating whether to follow along with this disobedient little girl’s lie or expose it.

Even though her charmingly soft voice somewhat softened his heart, it couldn’t quell the anger he felt upon seeing her enjoyably chatting with Julian Sutton and learning they had emotional scenes.

"Hmm, sleeping with lights on is a habit I didn’t know about despite being together with you for so long."

Natalie: ...

She remembered the clothes change, hiding under the covers, even making herself appear drowsy, yet forgot to turn off the lights! Absolutely a major slip!

Natalie tugged the blanket, catching her breath, only then realizing Zane’s expression was clearly him already knowing she was pretending. Natalie’s face turned unpleasant.

How could she forget Zane arranged bodyguards for her? Though she shook them off, her return time would definitely be known.

Thinking of the bodyguards already having reported, Natalie threw aside the blanket and initiated an offense.

"I knew you were up to no good! Zane Thorne, you arranged bodyguards not for protection, it’s to monitor me!"

Hearing this, Zane’s expression instantly darkened.

A cold laugh.

"Why don’t you tell me, going out at night after filming and not resting, shaking off bodyguards for what exactly?"

Natalie initially said it out of anger, not really meaning it, but Zane’s words fueled her temper too.

"Why does it matter what I do? Must I report the details of eating or walking to you? Oh, wait, someone reports to you anyway, you don’t need me to tell."

Zane’s face turned even uglier.

"Natalie."

He called her name, with a deep tone, clearly displeased by her words.

Natalie was utterly furious, hating most in life being controlled. Previously, Zane controlled her meals, she saw it as care, tolerating it, even accepting his arrangement of bodyguards around her; all of which was her concession and compromise.

But has Zane become too full of himself? On what grounds does he question her whereabouts?

"Why are you calling?! I understand now, this rare video call is to verify, right? Knowing when I returned to the room, watching me fake sleep and act, do you think I’m like an idiot?"

The man frowned, watching Natalie’s tantrum, his irritation surging, tongue pressing against his cheek, containing his temper.

"Natalie, calm down."

He called her name again, this time with a deeper tone, embodying an authoritative posture even he wasn’t aware of, attempting to use his presence to subdue her.

Natalie sensed it, anger rushing to her head.

"Don’t use the attitude you have with your subordinates on me, what rights do you have? I’m not buying it!"

Finishing her words, Natalie directly hung up the call.

Absurdly annoyed.

This damn man, who does he think he is governing where she goes? Does she need to report her whereabouts to him? Using such attitude! One might even think she went out at night secretly to cheat, making him so angry!
