Accidentally Yours, Mr. Stranger-Chapter 89: Marriage Contract - Part 2
Chapter 89: Marriage Contract - Part 2
Kyrell wasn’t surprised to see that Sienna had prepared a marriage contract. He had expected it. Considering all that had happened and how strong and high the walls around her heart were, it was impossible for her to trust him completely.
Sienna trusted him. He knew it, he saw it in her eyes. But it wasn’t to the extent that she believed him wholeheartedly. There was some resistance in her heart, and he understood her. After all, it’d be a miracle if she trusted someone she met only ten days ago.
"You don’t look surprised," Sienna said, observing the man’s reaction. She had been studying his expression and was waiting for him to react drastically when she brought up the marriage contract. But the man seemed to have anticipated it. He was cool and composed all the time.
"Sienna," Kyrell smiled warmly and held her hands. "I know you don’t trust me completely, and I get it. Considering all that happened and how people you once trusted are betraying you, it ain’t surprising that you’re being cautious. I respect your decisions. Irrespective of what you do, I’ll always be on your side and protect you forever."
Sienna was overwhelmed with emotions, and her eyes welled up. The man’s sincere and resolute words touched her deeply, wrapping around her like a warm blanket.
Since the moment she had met him, she felt safe under his care. Perhaps it was because he had saved her after the accident, or that the man had been her unwavering support when she was at her weakest. She felt closer to him than anyone she knew, even if it had only been a few days since they met.
Kyrell and she may have been in the same foster care. But those memories were distant and vague. Her past closeness was practically non-existent. Whatever she felt currently was because of all that had happened after her accident.
Sienna lowered her head and kept wringing her hands. "I trust you. I really do. It’s just that... It’s just that..."
She couldn’t explain her feelings and continued to stutter before Kyrell leaned forward to hug her. It was a soft touch, one that was filled with comfort, and Sienna tilted her head until her cheek was pressed against his shoulder.
"You don’t have to clarify anything. I understand." Rubbing her back gently, he pulled back and pecked her lips before opening the file.
"Do I have to read all of these?" Kyrell asked, staring at the file, and Sienna gave him a stern look. And that was all it took for the man to start reading the contents of the file.
"We’ll be married for a year. Consider it a period to get to know each other," Sienna explained, while Kyrell glanced at her before returning to the file. "If we are compatible and happy, we will have a wedding once the contract period ends. Otherwise, we will get a divorce."
Kyrell’s hands trembled when he heard her mention divorce. A faint sense of uneasiness filled his heart, and he gripped the file tightly to control his emotions that were flooding like a river.
Sienna sensed the change in him and moved closer to him. "I know my words may sound painful. But I hope you understand."
Kyrell nodded and took deep breaths to calm himself down.
"We’ll be signing a prenup. We’ll not be splitting the assets if we get a divorce." Sienna was determined. She trusted Kyrell, sure. But what if it was all his ploy? She couldn’t disregard the possibility of him deceiving her just because she found him attractive.
Kyrell had no problem with it. Anyway, he didn’t need her money. He just needed her in his life. It didn’t matter to him if she came with nothing. He was more than capable of providing for her.
"Will we be keeping our marriage a secret from anyone?" Kyrell asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Although he remained calm on the outside, he was anxious from within.
"Why would we do that?" Sienna frowned, finding the man’s question utterly absurd.
"Then? Will we be revealing it to the public?"
"Absolutely. Why? Do you have a problem with it?" Sienna asked, lowering her voice. "I’m sorry I didn’t consider your thoughts on this. If you want to, we can keep our marriage under wraps."
"No. There’s no need for that." Kyrell’s lips arched up into a barely suppressed smile. The man was ecstatic. He was dying to shout and inform the whole world that Sienna and he were married. Why would he want to keep the information hidden?
"Although I have my reasons to disclose our marriage to everyone, even if I didn’t, I don’t want to keep it a secret," Sienna said in all honesty. "We aren’t doing anything wrong. Why should we worry about it?"
"You’re right. I’ll listen to everything you say. Anything else I should be knowing?" Kyrell asked, focusing on Sienna. He barely finished the first paragraph. Sienna had stated almost everything mentioned in the file, reducing the trouble.
Sienna pursed her lips when she recalled something she had failed to address all this time. "How about your family? Don’t you want to inform them?"
Kyrell closed the file and looked down, his eyes crestfallen and filled with a loneliness she was all too familiar with.
Sienna couldn’t comprehend his expressions, and she went silent, wondering if she had scratched a wound.
"I don’t have anyone," Kyrell said after sorting his emotions.
"Huh?"
"I was adopted by a couple in their fifties. I lost my Dad seven years ago, and my Mom passed away two years ago."
"Oh, I’m sorry." Sienna didn’t know what else to say.
"Don’t be. They were happy and died in peace."
Sienna nodded, her heart heavy with sadness. She found it ironic that both Kyrell and she were adopted, and their adoptive families had passed away.
’At least one of our families didn’t suffer in their death,’ she thought in relief.
Sienna held his hand and turned his palm before clasping her fingers with his. "You have me now. We are a family."
Kyrell’s eyes watered, and he nodded. "Yes, we are a family."
Sienna and Kyrell stared at each other for a long time. They didn’t have to say anything. Their silence had conveyed everything. How relieved and grateful they were to have found each other!
"Take your time reading the file," Sienna said, her lips stretching into a soft smile.
Kyrell interrupted her before she could continue. "I don’t need to read it. I’m fine with everything mentioned here."
"Are you sure about that?" Sienna was pleasantly surprised. The man was highly unguarded against her. What if she deceived him? What would he do then?
"Absolutely."
"What if I scammed you? What if I gain hold of your assets?" Sienna cocked a brow teasingly, only for it turn into a scowl when Kyrell erupted into a fits of laughter.
"I can’t wait for that to happen."
"What do you mean?"
"I’ll only be glad to hand over all my assets to my wife."
This wasn’t how it worked. The man wasn’t following the rules.
"So, my dear, I’ll leave all my assets with you. Just don’t abandon me in the future."
Sienna’s expression changed, and she looked at him smugly. "That depends on you."
"Then, I’ll make sure you have no complaints," Kyrell smirked, his tone filled with devotion.
"Oh, before I forget..." Sienna stood up and went to the cupboard near the window.
The cream colored curtains were fluttering lightly as the wind blew inside. The entire room was filled with the sweet and intoxicating fragrance of gardenia.
The room looked cozy and warm, just like the woman who occupied it. It was comforting in a way that it made him feel at ease, at home.
Kyrell’s eyes followed Sienna. Even though he was in her bedroom, he didn’t show any signs of being awkward, not that he felt awkward in the first place.
Sienna retrieved a box from the cupboard and returned to bed, where Kyrell was patiently waiting for her.
"This is for you," Sienna said and handed him the box, and Kyrell took it curiously.
"What’s this?"
"Nothing important. It’s your seal. I’ve got it customized for you."
Kyrell was taken aback, and he blinked a few times. His mind went blank, his vocabulary failing at such a crucial time.
"For me?" he asked, barely managing to speak after some time.
"Yes. Every Lawrence family member gets a seal. Since you’ll be my husband, you’ll get one too."
"But what’s the use of it?"
"Normally, it’s quite useless. But you need it at the quarterly shareholders meeting."
"But I’m not a shareholder." Kyrell was puzzled. Why was he allowed into a shareholder meeting even if he didn’t hold any shares?
"Yes. But the others don’t need to know that."
Sienna tilted her head and looked at him mysteriously, and Kyrell understood what she was trying to convey. Understanding dawned upon him, and he snapped his fingers.
"Got it. May I get a pen now? Let me sign this agreement."
"Are you sure you don’t want to read the contract thoroughly first. What if you want to modify a clause? Perhaps you want to add something?"
"I trust you. I know you won’t put me at a disadvantage. In fact, if anyone can be taken advantage of in this marriage is you. I think you should add more clauses just for your mental peace and safety."
Sienna was stunned speechless. It was the first time she was meeting someone who wanted her to add more conditions and restrictions to the contract.
Where did he come from? Why did we not meet each other before?
Once Kyrell had signed the contract, Sienna signed it and handed him his copy.
"It’s getting late. You should go to sleep." Kyrell stood up and leaned forward to kiss her forehead. "I’ll see you in the morning. Good night."
"Good night, Kyrell. Sweet dreams."
That night, Kyrell really had a sweet dream, one which involved Sienna and him.
