Accidentally Reincarnated in Cultivation World-Chapter 97: The Arena
Evening had arrived, and with his missions complete and points in hand, Yu Xuan finally set his sights on the place where all grudges could be settled and every punch was legal.
The Arena.
To his surprise, it was located just behind the mission hall, tucked deeper into the town’s inner district. Despite all his time wandering around, he had never ventured this far before. The area was lively — more crowded and chaotic than anywhere else he’d visited.
The energy in the air was electric. Disciples patrolled the streets with heightened alertness, and further ahead, Yu Xuan spotted a massive coliseum like structure, its towering archways and glowing formation lines pulsing with spiritual energy.
A roaring crowd surrounded the entrance. There was even a line to get in, a long one.
"Whoa... they treat fighting like a festival out here," he murmured.
Curious, he stopped to ask a few passersby about the arena. A kind, older disciple, who wore the uniform of the Water Peak and had a gourd strapped to his back, took the time to explain.
Apparently, this area was the combat core of the town, one of the few places that attracted disciples from multiple peaks, though high-level visitors were rare. That said, due to this town’s close proximity to the main Elemental Heaven Peak, traffic from other peak was more common.
"The main coliseum?" the senior disciple said, stroking his beard. "That’s where Core Formation disciples and above fight. Those matches are part of the monthly ranking battles. Bettings are wild, but so are the fights. One second you’re watching someone duel, next second they’re in the healer’s ward."
Yu Xuan gulped.
"Below that level — Qi Condensation and Foundation Establishment realm fights in the underground arenas. There are multiple entrances, see?" The man pointed to several inconspicuous looking stairwells near the side of the main arena structure.
"Those smaller duels are where fresh blood gets noticed. Sometimes scouts from the various peaks keep an eye out. Make a name there, and you could jump ranks fast."
Yu Xuan nodded, his interest piqued. "So... can I fight there?"
"You can. To challenge a Core Formation duel, though, you’d need to be at the top of the Foundation Establishment rankings, or already be in the Core Formation stage. Until then, underground’s your battlefield."
The atmosphere here was exhilarating. Cheers echoed from the coliseum, hawkers shouted about odds, and betting stalls flickered with illusionary projections showing live matches.
Cultivators really did treat fighting like a second nature — it was sport, pride, and profit all rolled into one.
Yu Xuan, of course, wasn’t here to fight just yet. Today was for observation, maybe even placing a bet or two. Who knows? If luck favored him, he might just walk out with more points than he came in with.
And so, with bright eyes and a curious grin, he walked toward one of the underground entrances, eager to learn the rhythm of this place where fists decided fate.
As Yu Xuan descended into the underground arena, a wave of heat and adrenaline seemed to hit him all at once.
The atmosphere was even more intense here. Dozens of floating platforms hovered mid-air, each with different matches going on. The roar of the crowd echoed throughout the vast underground chamber like thunder.
"Beat him! I bet all my Sect points on you!"
"Yeahhh! Punch his face, I don’t like that shit eating grin!"
"Shit! Don’t lose now, you idiot!"
The shouts came from all directions, a chaotic symphony of desperation, bloodlust, and raw excitement.
Yu Xuan wandered until he stopped at one platform where the crowd seemed especially engaged. There, two disciples were mid-battle.
One was a towering man with a shock of flaming red hair, skin like sun scorched bronze, and a massive build that looked more beast than human.
His chest was bare, revealing tattooed muscles that rippled with each movement. His expression was wild, eyes gleaming with combat frenzy, and every swing of his arm was like a boulder crashing down from a mountain.
His opponent — a scrawny, wiry kid who looked like he should’ve been selling scrolls in a library rather than fighting in an arena.
But surprisingly, he wasn’t going down without a fight. He ducked low under a brutal punch, spinning like a leaf on wind, and retaliated with sharp sword strikes that shimmered with faint spiritual light.
The crowd gasped as the blade left a shallow gash across the red-haired man’s arm. But it only seemed to excite him further.
"Not bad," the man growled, before lunging forward.
His next punch was a blur — but Yu Xuan easily followed it. The fist connected squarely with the scrawny disciple’s abdomen, sending him flying across the stage like a ragdoll. He crashed into the far barrier, coughed blood, and collapsed with a dull thud.
The crowd erupted.
"YESSS!!!"
"Worth every damn point!"
"Hah! Told you he’d flatten him!"
Yu Xuan raised an eyebrow. "Well... that was brutal."
There was no need to check who won. The scrawny kid wasn’t moving. A team of medics quickly rushed in from the sides of the arena, lifting him onto a stretcher, yes they even had stretchers here.
As the poor kid was carried off, the red-haired victor stood tall at the center of the stage, arms raised high in triumph.
With a wild grin stretching across his face, he bellowed,
"WHO DARES TO CHALLENGE ME?!"
The crowd roared in response, the bloodlust in the air intensifying. An open challenge always fired them up — there was something primal and thrilling about watching another disciple walk into a lion’s den willingly.
Suddenly, a new figure stepped into the arena.
A thin youth in red robes walked forward, his pace slow but measured. His face was pale, and deep shadows circled under his eyes like he hadn’t slept in days.
His hands were tucked inside his sleeves, his expression unreadable. He didn’t exude raw power or flashiness like the red-haired brute.
Yu Xuan checked the rankings. As expected, the red-haired brawler was currently ranked number one in the Qi Condensation Realm for this town.
But his eyes shifted back to the sickly-looking youth.
’No... that guy is stronger,’ Yu Xuan thought, a subtle frown forming on his face. ’He doesn’t look strong, but his cultivation... it’s deep, probably sealed. He’s hiding something.’
He smirked and crossed his arms, eyes locked onto the unfolding scene.
"This place might be dangerous," he muttered under his breath, "but it’s definitely entertaining."
