Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 476 - 438: Competing through Fathers
```
Flames and thunder, a huge meteorite fell from the sky.
The crushed clouds, polluted by burning smoke and dust, presented the fiery clouds of sunset.
The man stood on the grass, watching the dazzling meteor fall from the sky, his star-like pupils gradually mesmerized. Dew condensed from the moisture rolled down his golden hair, drenching his white robe. The white silk clung to his skin, blood-red seeping out from the wet stains, adding a dangerously gorgeous hue to the elegance.
"He did it, a shiny star..."
Serio let out a relaxed exclamation, something under his long white robe surged like a tide with excitement.
Accompanied by a curse-like dark chant, a deep-sea omen engulfed everything, submerging the space in dark waves.
"Lyle..."
The sound of a stick stirring the mud broke the vision, the fog condensed behind Serio into a shape. A figure with the smell of blood stepped into Serio’s territory, "Don’t forget your mission, Divine Corpse, the master, will be angry..."
The downturned corners of his mouth sprung back into a smile like a compressed spring, Serio turned around, looking at his collaborator.
"I haven’t forgotten my mission, respected Professor Arnold."
Arnold cocked his head, his broken doll-like face showing the dull gaze of eyes resembling those of a drowned corpse.
"City of Wandering, that is the master’s city, not your toy, Divine Corpse."
"All things ultimately belong to the master, everything will be the master’s in time, I simply borrowed it for a moment."
Faced with Serio’s sophistry, Arnold turned back.
"You are just a vessel, Divine Corpse."
Serio squinted his eyes, smiling.
"I keep that in mind, oh servant of God."
Like a stone thrown into the water, the meteor collided with the earth, blasting the soil into the air like a splash, several dozen meters high. The geology shattered, caved in, and under the high temperature and pressure, solidified into a sturdy base, supporting the precious exhibit.
The Black Dragon stretched out its wings, its scales on the surface all charred, that was the burnt shell of flesh and blood.
The Black Dragon exhaled a scorching breath from its mouth, observing the gigantic egg under its dragon wings.
The fragile shell shattered into dust when touched by a gentle breeze.
Revealing a complex web-like structure inside.
On the City of Wandering, a black tree was decaying, its end branches reaching towards the ground, the ends connecting to the slumbering citizens. The crumbling debris fell on them, inhaled into the respiratory tract causing violent coughing, and the citizens of the City of Wandering stood up, looking around them in confusion.
At the base of the black tree, the roots shattered into dust, and Lyle knelt to the ground, straining to keep his brain from swelling in order to maintain clarity.
The recompilation of flesh and bone of all races in the City of Wandering, the repair of all mad spirits, Lyle felt as if his brain were almost burned into a fool.
"I did it, we did it."
Propped up by Irason, the scholar stood again, the corruption of the Dragon Priest was cleared, and the King of Magic regained control of his city.
Irene Dolgette looked at the two boys with satisfaction, her newly opened eyes of mystique casting a tender gaze upon them. The warm tide of magical power washed over their bodies, bestowing enlightenment upon Lyle and William.
The eruption of cheers tingled everyone’s nerves, everyone shouting loudly to keep the festive atmosphere of the City of Wandering going. Some even started dancing on the shattered City of Wandering, the revived people still unaware, becoming part of the dance performance, following the singing and joyful footsteps, leaving their confusion behind, as if the night of impossibilities had not yet ended.
William held up the crown, one of the saviors of the City of Wandering, crouching on his dais, casually catching the cheerful populace in his peripheral vision.
Carlos left no remains, which also meant that Lyle could not reverse him.
A hand gently patted the shoulder of the Prince of Sorrow, someone noticed his mood.
"Young man, what’s wrong?"
The unfamiliar care was like the last straw that broke his resolve, the crown becoming blurred in William’s eyes.
"There was a man, he left."
The voice paused for a moment.
"That man, he was someone very important to you, wasn’t he."
William let down his final guard.
"That man was my father."
"Your dad died?"
```
The surge of anger ultimately did not surpass the sorrow, William turned his head away, distancing himself from that impertinent voice.
The voice that had been forgiven by the prince did not show gratitude, instead becoming more presumptuous.
"Since your dad is dead, how about I become your dad?"
"I’ll...," William exploded, on the first day of his return to the Dolgette Family, he wanted to use the privilege of nobility to hang the owner of that voice.
William turned around, William was stunned.
"Father... Father? You... you’re alright?!!"
Carlos stood behind William with a grin, patting William’s shoulder playfully.
"How about it, lad, accept a dad."
William was confused. What was going on; could it be that Carlos had not passed away? William looked at his brother, the only one who could have orchestrated all this, Lyle.
A shadow flashed in Lyle’s eyes.
"I am a god."
"Piecing together a dad for you is an easy task."
At this moment, Carlos was not the original Carlos.
With the power of the Flesh Creators, scouring the memories of all the people in the City of Wandering, Lyle used flesh and blood to mold a body, and memories to knit together a soul. Lyle had created a substitute with Carlos’ personality and memories.
Create life, that is the prerogative of the Creator.
Carlos accepted William’s embrace while Irene watched, explaining,
"I don’t know if you can accept this, but although I have Carlos’ personality and memories, I am not essentially the master of the City of Wandering, gifted with the Art of Teleportation; I am merely a substitute, a flesh and blood creation."
"In terms of mysticism, I am not William’s father, nor am I Irene’s child. Can my family accept someone like me?"
A scholar approached, raising a hand to slap Carlos’ face, but Carlos, leaning back, easily dodged it.
"Ha ha, you old codger, I saw through your little tricks long ago!" Following his memories, Carlos dodged the scholar’s slap.
Then, another clenched fist hit him in the kidneys, and Carlos doubled over like a shrimp.
"Kid, you’re still as easy to read as ever," boasted the scholar, waving his fist and extending a pal toward Carlos, "Welcome back, my child."
Carlos gave a small smile and grasped the scholar’s hand bone.
"I’m back, Father."
"Mhm."
The warm moment shattered the next second.
"Uh, Father, look, I’ve found my child William, and you’ve returned to the Dolgette Family. Now that I’m a useless person who has lost the ability to cast spells, perhaps it’s time for me to retire. Let this young chap William take my place. After all, he has been blessed with the King’s Power—he’s sure to do a great job! Even if he needs more tempering, isn’t your guidance there for him?"
Carlos waggled his eyebrows, egging on the scholar.
"Please train this kid well, make up for the affection and company I’ve owed William, this little rascal. Old man, don’t forget, this little brat has blown up our family tomb."
The scholar thought for a moment, then nodded.
"I promise you, my child," the scholar said, changing his tone, "But why don’t you join William in his studies, too? Haven’t you also lost all your magic? A child of Irene Dolgette can’t be a lackey forever. This trial has made me see your deficiencies. Time for you to take up the study of magic anew."
"What???" Carlos was dumbfounded.
Father and son going to school together, and the father is relearning magic, following the old man Irene.
Damn! I have to go through the trials of my childhood once again.
"No way!!!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Old man! I’ve already provided you with a grandchild!!! Why are you still after me?!!!"
"I don’t want to relearn!!!"
"I want to retire!!!"
"I want to be useless!!!!"
