Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 471 - 433 Other People’s Preparations
The King’s Power gleamed around them, enveloping them, as Lyle and William stood still like two illuminated stone sculptures.
The Forgotten Kings had lost their once formidable presence, seemingly reverting back to the group of pampered nobles that Lyle had first seen, frolicking and chatting in the luxurious hall. Losing their crowns might not necessarily be a bad thing for them.
As the ceremony concluded, the Forgotten Kings redirected their gaze back to the scholar.
"We have done what we must, Irene. Now, it is your wisdom that we need."
The scholar’s head tilted forward, tender branches that had been torn entwined around his bones, and new twigs hung down once again.
"Thank you all..."
"The City of Wandering is also our home; let’s save the celebrations for after the crisis is averted."
The Forgotten Kings withdrew back into their group, leaving the focus back to the scholar.
"Lyle and William need to adapt to the gift of kingship. During this time, we need to wait and do what we can."
Miracle stepped forward, as Andrey’s trading expert, voicing her doubts based on her expertise.
"Wait a minute, teacher, are we missing something? This is the Void, a place that is beyond the protection of the world."
"How do we deal with the erosion of the Void Power? Everyone saw it, the territories of the City of Wandering are continually breaking apart due to the Void’s encroachment..."
The scholar was very pleased with the question raised by his pupil. At critical moments, Miracle was reliable.
The Dragon Priest’s phalanges freed themselves from the entwined tender green branches, pointing straight up to the sky.
"After Serio left, I have already improved control of the magic network nodes. The remaining power is sufficient to last until the next Guardian of the City of Wandering arrives..."
"The next Guardian?"
"He has arrived."
Atop the City of Wandering, from the central tower, the ethereal arcane eye let out a strange noise. Deep blue magical energy infused with the green of dreams, then the twining blue and green were violently ripped apart, ripping open the space along with them, as a giant black-scaled claw further tore open the wound in space-time.
The roaring black dragon, covered in blood, braved the tempest of time-space and returned to its kin.
The black dragon perched atop the central tower, its claws turning the stone walls to rubble. Its deafening roar echoed throughout the City of Wandering.
"Ohmhead..."
Forcing its body through time and space, the Black Dragon Priest scattered scales and blood, drenching the Liches below in crimson. The injured and enraged dragon, hearing the call of its brother, regained clarity in its eyes.
The black dragon glanced at the scholar and spread its wings, soaring into the air. With the storm carrying its roars, the black dragon’s body grew larger and larger. Eventually, it overshadowed the entire City of Wandering. Connecting its head and tail to form a circle, the dragon’s wingspan enveloped the entire city. The Black Dragon Priest had transformed into a dragon guarding its nest, resisting the erosion of the Void.
The hostility in the sky was obscured; looking up, all that people could see were vast, deep dragon scales blanketing the skies.
The scholar looked at the stunned crowd, smiling gently.
"It’s fortunate that I am the only useless Dragon Priest."
"But the threats of the Void are not limited to mere erosion," Miracle continued to emphasize the dangers of the Void as she shifted her gaze from the dragon-scaled sky, "In the Void, many bizarre and fearsome creatures exist that can thrive in such harsh conditions, proving their formidable abilities. Those Void Messengers, those Void beings that are watching us, they are the real threat."
"The threat is no more." Footsteps appeared out of the air, and Loveday’s stooped figure came into view, his Battle Blade withdrawn, his body cleansed of tainted blood by the Power of Holy Light.
"Who is he?"
"That peculiar creature who accompanied Mr. Raymond, known as Loveday, the Star Spirit."
"He is here, that means..."
Aryan’s figure entered everyone’s line of sight, the stately nun making small steps forward, while her shadow was tearing and twisting flesh.
"His Excellency Raymond missed Andrey’s portal, so, those threats in the Void also missed their chance of survival."
Melok Raymond, Holy Light Lich, Leader of the Crusaders, was unleashing a massacre in the Void to protect the populace of the City of Wandering.
Andrey the Lich felt a kinship, a sympathy drifting through their thoughts into the Void.
"So, do we just need to play a requiem for those creatures of the Void? After all, it seems that everything that needed to be done, has been done?"
Mr. Scholar interrupted the whispering liches with a cough, as they discussed whether to perform the Twilight Symphony or the Prelude of the Dead.
"William will navigate the magic network nodes to transport the City of Wandering, but in fact, to complete this task, there is still a vital element missing."
"Coordinates."
"Serio didn’t need coordinates when transporting the entire city because he didn’t consider the issue of returning. But we do, as there are billions of stars in the Void, and our home is just that one unique star. If we wish to return smoothly, we need to obtain the coordinates, or find some connection between our planet and this city."
"For this, we must work together."
"Any method, summoning rituals, mind communion, magic transmission, any ritual that can establish a connection, we need to try them all. But be prepared to fail many times, because the Void can obliterate most powers."
The liches looked at each other.
"What is this? Homework for a magical research spatial studies class? The kind where class never ends until someone gets it right?"
"Given the current situation, you could understand it that way."
"I knew it, Professor Scholar wouldn’t miss any opportunity to force us to learn!!!"
"Even if he is already half-dead!!!"
The Scholar gave a faint smile and pointed his finger at the lich who had spoken so eloquently.
"I’ll remember you."
The activity to find coordinates for the City of Wandering continued amid the liches’ commotion.
In the Void, two extraordinary beings faced each other.
Mr. Raymond clutched his Holy Spear, the murky blood splattered on his armor sizzling as it burnt in the Holy Flame. He looked at the immense creature before him, his somewhat weary spirit regaining a state ready for war.
The Leader of the Holy Light and the Black Dragon Priest watched each other in the dead silence of the Void.
"Giant Dragon Descent."
"Dragon Calamity."
After a long silence, the Black Dragon lowered its lofty head, spreading its wings to reveal the city it protected.
The Holy Spear turned into a flame and dissipated, Raymond did not say much else and turned into a streak of light, entering the gap made by the Black Dragon.
Something had changed.
Something was changing.
Something was about to change.
