Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 246: Easter Egg - : The Witch, the Cat, and the Candy_2
"Lady Veraliz, this place is so scary. I don’t want to be turned into a candle. Can we go back?" The kitty bounced onto her shoulder, extending its paws to rub her head.
"Kurona, you’re my partner, the savior of witches. Be strong, our adventure has just begun!"
Kurona hugged the kitty in her arms, "Wuwuwu, but my Lady, this place is really scary. Why do we have to adventure here? The Floating Castle has its own special witches’ parties, and the City of Wandering has so many other places to go."
"Why do we have to come here?"
Mory looked at Fergenie and repeated the question.
"Where is the scariest place in the world with a ghost town atmosphere? Andrei Academy! This is an adventure that you yourself proposed, Mory." Fergenie took out a handkerchief to wipe Kurona’s tears. "Shall we go back now? Mister Kitty. It seems Kurona can’t hold on any longer."
Veraliz gazed at the three sheets of paper, a new choice emerging from the paper.
"Then let’s go for something simple. Look, that Avonreiter fellow seems to be holding a Halloween event at Andrei. Don’t you think this event is made just for us? We are witches, after all, we are the best candidates to go trick-or-treating. I am going to prove to Avonreiter that Kurona and I are definitely better than them, the crown should belong to us! So, what do you think, little pranksters? Witches are the best!"
"Oh oh! Trick or treat!"
The four of them, plus one cat, settled their plans like this.
Comparing the map in her hand, Veraliz looked at the three sheets of paper.
"Little Fergenie, what do you think about the candies on these papers? One candy, two candies, three candies."
Mory stole a glance and felt a bit resentful that Veraliz had bypassed her to ask Fergenie, making herself look like an idiot since she was the leader of the small group. So Mory racked her brains for an answer.
"I know, Lady Veraliz, this must represent the amount of candy each club has collected, with one candy being the least, and three candies the most!"
The kitty squinted its eyes, "Seems to make some sense."
"Mistress, may I take a look at the paper with three candies?" Fergenie took the paper, "Advanced Magic Research Society, Soul System Summoning Tower, Executive Committee, Chapel, Dean’s office... these places, I remember Miss Venerly specifically warned us not to go near, as they are clubs of some very powerful people."
Veraliz tilted her head, her bright yellow eyes filled with great doubt, "So they have more candy?"
"Logically speaking, the strong get more, it should be so, but, can we get the candy?"
"It’s just a bit of candy, shouldn’t be a problem, right? Are all the Liches at Andrei unreasonable devils?"
"The Elemental Witch of the Witches’ district once said that demons are reasonable, but not the people of Andrei."
"...then let’s start with the less risky places and work our way up." Veraliz picked a random name from the sheet with one candy. "Necromancer Figure Club, how about that?"
Apart from being desolate, nothing else happened in the halls of Andrei, and the timid Kurona was no longer so afraid. She held the kitty, curiously eyeing the strange doors on both sides; Andrei’s doors encompassed almost every style in the world.
Seeing the names on the door plates, they arrived at their destination.
Veraliz put on a pointed witch’s hat, and Rola tied a purple bow around her neck. Mory was covered with drawn stitches and a huge screw in her hair. Rola was dressed in a bloody maid outfit with ketchup on her cheeks. Kurona wore vampire fangs and a cape at all times, and recent tears had smeared the paint around her eyes, leaving black streaks on her cheeks. Fergenie draped herself in white cloth to pretend to be a ghost.
Once ready, they knocked on the door, and at the moment it opened,
"Trick or treat!"
The "Liches" behind the door were actually startled by them.
Lyle looked at the people in front of him, "It’s you, happy Halloween."
"It’s the plague doctor." "Mr. Plague Doctor!" "Give us candy quickly, or expect a trick!"
The commotion at the doorstep attracted the room’s sparkle.
"Boss, what’s happening? Oh, it’s Halloween." Sparkle skillfully took out a handful of warm candies from a leather pouch and put them in Kurona’s bag.
"Sparkle, you celebrate Halloween too? That surprises me."
"A Demon Race client gave it. Halloween candy, said to make one’s blood boil. I can’t refuse a client’s gift, and I’m not interested in candy, so give it all to them."
"It seems I made a mistake leaving Nia at The Cup of Extravagance to look after sir Gentleman’s skull. Poor Nia, she’ll have to settle for some candy I bought."
"I’ve heard these candies are quite popular among the Demon Race, and they’re said to be effective even for Liches to eat."
Mory shouted in surprise and stuffed the candy into her mouth, "There’s even candy Liches can eat, what a score! If Liches can eat it, we can too!"
Watching Mory’s cheeks puff, Lyle suddenly remembered the Demon Race’s odd habits; those battle fanatics weren’t sweet tooths.
"Sparkle, what’s the effect of the Demon Race’s candy?"
"Hell’s Mildly Spicy Candy, eating it will set you on fire."
"..." Why didn’t you say so earlier? It was too late, as Mory chewed, Lyle saw small flames appear on her.
