"Bizarre. Very bizarre..."
The words resounded through a fairly large room where a total of four individuals could be seen.
One of them was peculiar as she lay on the bed, covered in the snowy-white mattress, while beside her sat a lady, both hands covered in a green aura, which she hovered around the sleeping lady’s stomach.
But then, the dim glow in her hands soon stopped as she turned her gaze to the two other people remaining in the room.
One was a golden-haired individual sitting calmly on a chair, and the other was a white-haired figure leaning against the wall.
"How is it? Any hope of survival?" Arthur asked aloud.
The healer, an elf, nodded her head.
"Yes, due to her own powerful immune system."
"I can sense that she has been gravely injured, all of her cultivation veins pushed to their maximum limit and under immense strain, with severe injuries all over her body."
"But then, there is some mysterious force in her that is rapidly restoring life to these parts, mending even her broken cultivation base and wounds. It really is bizarre. Perhaps one of the powers of her special physique. But if it isn’t… then things are surely strange."
"That means she will no doubt be fine, and when she wakes up, perhaps even stronger than before." She concluded, as Arthur nodded with a relieved sigh.
"But I don’t see her waking up anytime soon, as the properties of this healing energy are unknown. She could wake up in a few minutes from now, or days."
"All she needs is deep rest."
"While you can stay here, remember that there is a rehabilitation base not far away where those who wish to wait for their injured partners can stay."
"It has everything, and it’s free. You can also choose to wait there instead."
"Thank you very much, Ma’am. We’ll wait a couple more minutes before checking out the base..." Arthur said warmly as the elf lady smiled, her gaze flashing by Ryuk, who maintained the same poker-faced expression as ever, not saying a single word throughout the entire conversation.
She then left, leaving just the two of them.
Silence filled the room for a while before it was eventually broken.
"Seems like she’ll be fine. Now, I understand your reason for your haste earlier. It looks like the Ascension Academy would have lost one of its most powerful geniuses if not for your seemingly erratic actions..." Arthur said with a chuckle as Ryuk raised an eyebrow.
"Erratic?"
"Yes. To venture into a Pseudo-Lord Ranked Portal for no reason other than a girl who seems to have fallen in love with the thrill of laying her life on the line—it seems a bit too erratic, no?"
"Especially with the blind fervor you displayed. It was as if, had I told you she had gone to the underworld, you would have followed her in."
"You’re not like that, Ryuk. You’re usually calm, like nothing in the world can ruffle you. Barely showing surprise or even concern at anything." Arthur said as Ryuk’s eyebrows furrowed, thinking deeply about his words.
He has a point.
’When I heard Morgaine had gone on a quest with barely any chance of surviving, I truly lost control of myself.’
’For a second, I stopped thinking things through and focused only on the problem itself.’
’If I had gone to the Quest Hall without Arthur’s help, I would have likely gotten into trouble with the students.’
’While I could have made quick work of them, they might have alerted the instructors, and I would have been discovered soon enough.’
’Even if I got through them, that still wouldn’t have been the best choice I could have made rationally. The normal me would have thought it through before finding a way to maneuver.’
’And I even thought about getting out of the academy, forgetting that there was an aerial surveillance system, and was willing to venture into a Pseudo-Lord Rank Gate without any preparation or care, especially since I had never entered one before...’
’Those series of actions are not like me. They’re truly erratic…’ Ryuk analyzed.
Now that his head was much cooler, he could think straight and observe that his actions had truly been unlike him.
’Why? Why did I act that way?’ Ryuk thought to himself. But then, a memory resurfaced in his mind.

"You’ll live, won’t you, Ryuk?"

"I definitely will."
"Then watch Morgaine for me, will you?"
---
’The Half-Fallen one? Is she who I’m afraid off?’
"Ryuk?"
The voice resounded as Ryuk raised his gaze, looking at Arthur, who had raised an eyebrow at him.
Arthur had seen Ryuk lost in thought for quite some minutes, not saying a word.
"You’re right, Arthur. I should have thought it through. Things really could have gone south without your help." Ryuk replied as Arthur shrugged it off.
He was about to say something before—
DRIIIIIIING
DRIIIIIIING
The loud ringing sound suddenly rang out as Arthur turned his gaze to his Apex Watch, his eyes furrowing before he picked up the call.
A tiny voice emerged, to which Arthur replied, "I’ll be there in a couple of minutes..." before the conversation was severed.
"Duty calls?" Ryuk asked as Arthur chuckled before rising to his feet.
"I’m afraid I’ll have to leave first. Sorry that I—" Arthur started, but Ryuk waved him off before he could finish.
"Don’t worry about it. I’m the one in your debt for all your help." He replied, to which Arthur nodded.
Then, suddenly, Arthur paused and asked, "If I can act uncivil—may I ask for your number?"
Ryuk furrowed his eyebrows.
"You can take that as fulfilling all the debt you owe me..." Arthur added with a sleek smile.
Ryuk thought about it for a while before shrugging.
What harm could there be in exchanging contact information? He can choose to respond or not respond to his calls if he wanted.
Stretching out his hand, his Apex Watch displayed his number, and Arthur quickly copied it before waving one last time and heading out of the room, leaving only Morgaine and Ryuk, with the sound of the beeping monitor alone in the room.
