Absolute Death Game-Chapter 471 - 49: The Evolution of the Python_2
After dealing with those vexing vines, Xiao Buli finally got the chance to properly "entertain" the instigator of it all, the Serpent Demon standing inside the cave.
Of the twenty or so Serpent Demons originally inside the cave, only it remained aloft, seemingly a high and mighty emperor. From their behavior, Xiao Buli could roughly guess that the Serpent Demons residing in the cave evidently held a higher status than those in the large pits, although he didn't know whether they possessed intelligence or language amongst themselves. However, from the way those Serpent Demons saluted the ones in the cave upon first sight, it was clear they held respect for those Cave Serpent Demons.
And just now, by sacrificing their bodies, they awakened some kind of protective Array. Xiao Buli guessed they were probably like priests within their species—knowing that in some minority ethnic groups or foreign tribes, priests occupy an irreplaceable position within the tribe, sometimes even wielding more influence than the tribe leaders themselves.
Unfortunately for them, they had underestimated Xiao Buli's strength. It seemed that whatever they were trying to activate with those Magic Vines, even though their power had been multiplied several times over, they turned into mere dross in the face of Divine Equipment.
And that largest Serpent Demon, still remaining inside the cave, was clearly their leader—perhaps it was even the king of their ancient era.
Xiao Buli slowly turned his head back and watched as the Serpent Demon inside the cave writhed madly, moving erratically back and forth—similar to how a person might pace back and forth on the ground in extreme anger or agitation.
Raising his hand, Xiao Buli provocatively crooked his finger at the Serpent Demon at the entrance of the cave shrine, the gesture clearly implying, "Come on out if you've got what it takes."
Seeing Xiao Buli's gesture, the Serpent Demon seemed to erupt with fury, opening its gaping mouth to scream in Xiao Buli's direction—a sound that seemed as much a threat as it did fear, the kind of terror that turns into rage when pushed to the extreme.
Xiao Buli didn't know if it was anger, but he saw it vehemently pull out a quaint and unique dagger from nowhere, glaring in his direction as if consumed by hatred, and plunged it into its own body.
Wow, Xiao Buli wasn't surprised by its actions at all—those Serpent Demons were quite adept at self-harm, sharing a striking resemblance to the Samurai of a certain island nation who readily commit seppuku. Was this another attempt to Summon some great monster?
Xiao Buli adjusted his stance, shield in front and blade ready, steadfastly facing in the direction of the Serpent Demon. Though his earlier provocation had been thrilling, Xiao Buli did not want to appear as confident as he had shown. He knew that the reason he easily resolved the vine situation was not that the Serpent Demons were particularly weak, but rather that he happened to have the equipment suited for restraining such plant-like monsters. Had it been an ordinary person, a team of a dozen to twenty people might have been annihilated. Not to mention the tough exterior of those vines and their immense strength made them already challenging to deal with. Yet, with things having reached this point, he had no choice but to brace himself and face it head-on.
Xiao Buli's eyes were unblinkingly fixed on the Serpent Demon inside the cave, observing it forcefully dragging the blade it had stabbed into itself to the side, apparently to let out more blood. This odd quirk oddly mirrored that of the Samurai during seppuku, who would slice horizontally.

Grinning with gritted teeth, Xiao Buli watched its face twist with bulging veins due to the effort. He genuinely wished he could end its pain swiftly. Soon, Xiao Buli noticed something amiss; the blood, following the flow of the body at first without pattern, began to stream along certain traces etched into the rock. The flow would shift sideways at times, and at other instances in a straight diagonal line. Gradually, a bizarre pattern drawn by fresh blood began to appear on the stone wall before Xiao Buli, and he thought to himself that it was coming.
And surely enough, as the last line of the pattern was filled with fresh blood amidst the rain, the entire Array suddenly seemed to come to life. Those red lines darkened, and then the Array started to rotate, at first slowly, in circles, steadily speeding up. Xiao Buli suddenly felt a flash before his eyes—the rain screen that was just in front of him suddenly shifted. Not only that, the blood and rainwater that had originally scattered around the bodies of the twenty or so Serpent Demons began to coalesce towards the cave. The blood attracted as though iron filings to a magnet, converging inside the cave.
All the liquid near Xiao Buli seemingly gathered toward the body of the Serpent Demon, slowly forming flesh and bone around it. The material turned from transparent to corporeal, layer by layer enveloping its body.
"Perhaps we should make a run for it," Heart Demon's voice once again resounded in Xiao Buli's mind.
"Why do you have such a different personality from the previous one? Show some courage, will you?" Xiao Buli inhaled deeply and spoke with ease to the Heart Demon. He had no intention of leaving before figuring out what exactly was in the large pit. However, that Lava Giant Python sure took a long time inside, and if it weren't for a faint connection they still shared, Xiao Buli could have sworn it was done for in there.
