Abandoned Woman Busy Farming-Chapter 2445 - 2446: Served Up for a Slap in the Face
"Do you have the Emperor’s decree? I do." Kui Shou raised his head and shouted, his demeanor like a proud fighting rooster. Compared to Jiang Yichun’s calm yet composed stance, he was clearly inferior.
"Is this the venue for the poetry conference? There’s been an earthquake, so why can’t I come to rescue my wife?" Jiang Yichun spoke in a cold tone, then added with sarcasm, "You’re the only man here, yet instead of guarding outside to protect the ladies, you hid in the innermost part. Quite enlightening."
"You..." Kui Shou’s face turned red with anger, his position was indeed in the innermost part.
Everyone was in a hurry to evacuate, and as a man with large strides, he ran the fastest and was the first to reach the shelter.
The elegant lady had a hint of disdain in her eyes as she looked at the man, reputedly full of literary flair, yet in times of trouble, he couldn’t even help look after the surrounding ladies. She had even contemplated having her only daughter, Yaxi, marry him.
Thankfully, it was only a thought, and she put a stop to the idea.
Others soon realized the same point. Although this earthquake wasn’t severe, and they weren’t overly panicked, a man rushing ahead without helping the ladies was indeed lacking in gentlemanly demeanor.
Kui Shou became anxious internally, not wanting his image to be tarnished and quickly said, "I wanted to assess the situation here, to ensure safety."
"Haha." Bai Ruozhu cooperatively laughed.
Jiang Yichun also cooperatively "ha-ha’d." His lady used "ha-ha" to represent many deeper meanings.
Such sarcastic "haha" sounds from the two could easily convey their meaning, which even the least astute person could understand. Next to them, Fo Lanying couldn’t hold back her laughter, quickly followed by others who laughed quietly.
"Don’t misunderstand Lord Dubian, Bai Ruozhu. I’ve heard that there’s a saying in Zhongyuan that scholars belittle each other, but in Fusang, such behavior isn’t endorsed." Hui Zi’s voice suddenly rang out, Bai Ruozhu turned to see her face swollen but standing upright with righteous indignation.
Humph, she’s everywhere. Bai Ruozhu’s face instead wore a smile; she understood Hui Zi’s intentions, concerned that Bai would help Fangzi expose her, so she acted first to land Bai with a bad name and earn favor with Kui Shou.
Indeed, she’s quite the schemer.
Fangzi’s face turned red with anger, "Hui Zi, how could you say that? Bai Ruozhu is speaking the truth, while you are clearly sowing discord."
Yizi pulled Fangzi, reminding her not to hurry, as words spoken now might later bring trouble.
Sure enough, several girls with Yaxi began to criticize Fangzi.
"What right do you have to speak, you’re just a self-serving scoundrel who quickly sided with the Zhongyuan envoy."
"Princess Ya’an won’t fall for your tricks, so you’ve found Zhongyuan people. Truly shameless."
"..."
Several girls spoke with one word after another, clearly leading the conversation astray. Fangzi’s face turned red and blue with anger, her eyes reddened.
"Is Miss Hui Zi suggesting that Zhongyuan scholars are narrow-minded? You’ve been learning Zhongyuan culture since childhood, yet look down on Zhongyuan people?" Bai Ruozhu intensified his tone.
"I..." Hui Zi didn’t expect Bai Ruozhu wouldn’t explain but instead questioned her, suddenly losing her momentum and becoming nervous.
Yaxi foolishly stood out and said, "Bai Ruozhu, there’s no need to elevate things to such a level, Hui Zi merely repeated something she heard."
Bai Ruozhu "ha-ha’d" again, "Oh, something she heard, coincidentally I’ve heard something too, perhaps I’ll share it with everyone."
Hui Zi’s heart tightened, becoming nervous without any reason, vaguely feeling Bai Ruozhu was about to say something unpleasant.
"I just heard this Miss tell Princess Ya’an that her fall was related to a girl named Yaxi, and she complained that Yaxi stopped her from attending the poetry conference, seemingly the Princess felt sorry for her ordeal." Bai Ruozhu started speaking leisurely.
Hui Zi’s expression changed drastically; she hadn’t expected Bai Ruozhu would overhear her words, daring to speak to Princess Ya’an knowing the Princess wouldn’t inform Yaxi or get close to her companions, hence acting so recklessly.
"You’re lying!" Hui Zi started to shout, Yaxi, looked at Bai Ruozhu in disbelief, "Bai Ruozhu, what’s the point of sowing discord?"
Bai Ruozhu "ha-ha’d" again, "Whether I’m sowing discord, we can simply ask Princess Ya’an, she seems like a fair person."
Princess Ya’an looked at Yaxi, "Hui Zi indeed said this, do you admit it was you who caused her to fall? Are you without private motives?"
Yaxi’s face turned ashen, she looked at Hui Zi, "Did you really say that about me?"
The elegant lady’s face also darkened a few degrees; if she couldn’t see her own daughter was deceived by now, she was truly clueless.
She initially thought Hui Zi came from a good family and had a close relationship with her daughter; it would be beneficial for the two to look out for each other in the future. Who would have known Hui Zi’s jealousy of her daughter would lead her to defame her daughter’s reputation behind her back, even making Princess Ya’an dislike her daughter.
If Bai Ruozhu hadn’t spoken today, Princess Ya’an, with her character, would surely not inquire Yaxi, but would undoubtedly remain indignant on Hui Zi’s behalf, inevitably targeting Yaxi later.
Before Hui Zi could reply, Bai Ruozhu laughed joyfully, "According to what I saw earlier, this Miss said she suddenly had a headache and fell. Despite needing to attend the poetry conference, Miss Yaxi ran to find her medicine, such friendship should be praised, yet she’s painted as a villain."
He turned to Princess Ya’an, "If I’m not mistaken, most of those girls thought Princess Ya’an was aloof and difficult to associate with, typically looking down on them. You can ask if you don’t believe it."
Princess Ya’an’s expression turned exceptionally unpleasant, "I thought they were restrained by their status, fearing closeness, how could such rumors exist?"
Hui Zi’s face became even more unsightly under Yaxi’s glare, she hurriedly explained, "I did tell the Princess you advised me not to attend the poetry conference, but I didn’t mean it like that; it’s this woman who exaggerated!"
"No wonder when I went to deliver medicine, you said such things, no wonder the Princess’s gaze was peculiar." Yaxi realized, and tears began to fall in large drops, "Hui Zi, I considered you my closest sister, how could you treat me like this?"
Princess Ya’an also looked at Hui Zi, "What have you been saying about me?"
"I would never say anything bad about the Princess, you mustn’t listen to the Zhongyuan woman’s provocation!" Hui Zi exclaimed anxiously.
The other girls close to Hui Zi looked at Hui Zi and Yaxi, unsure what to do.
Seeing the trouble shifted elsewhere, Kui Shou wisely remained silent.
