Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 389 Princess Lington
[Margaret’s Perspective]
There was such certainty in Licia’s retort that I was taken aback for a moment, followed by a sensation as though something had cleared a path straight through my thoughts!
"Do you mean to say that the woman who first spoke to me that day was Martha, Henry’s mother—Princess Lington? And she is also the true mastermind behind Poison Snake Island?"
I asked incredulously, my eyes filled with amazement and surprise.
I shifted my gaze away from Licia while nodding and attempting to sort out my thoughts. So, the underlying reason behind all those seemingly inexplicable puzzles that racked our brains lay here!
The reason Licia did not hesitate to betray Donald to help Henry during the Royal City battle wasn’t solely because she valued and cherished her nephew, Henry. The major reason behind her actions was mostly because of Princess Lington, her ’resurrected’ biological sister.
After Henry’s rebellion failed in the Royal City and he fled southward, first forming an alliance with Levi at the Lilo Sea, then being chased by Donald and forced to seek refuge on the island with Martha—it was all traceable. Henry had an escape plan from the beginning, and Poison Snake Island must have been their final trump card, right?
My brain was whirring wildly as information flooded in, and I became so overwhelmed that I was frozen in place for a long time.
Seeing me muttering a few questions to myself and then falling silent, Licia turned to me and asked softly, "You didn’t know? I thought you were aware of all this after coming to the island."
Licia’s voice snapped me back to reality, and I turned to look at her, continuing my inquiry with a touch of puzzlement, "Why didn’t Martha let me see her face? Throughout our conversation that day, someone kept my eyes covered."
I thought it was just a peculiar detail, but seeing a hint of doubt and complexity wash over Licia’s face, I suddenly realized there must be other reasons behind it I was not aware of.
Simo had finished stitching up the wound on my palm, and I took a breath and temporarily shelved my question to ask Licia, "You still haven’t answered my question. Where are Donald and the others?"
Upon hearing this, Licia pursed her lips and, after a long while, reluctantly responded, "They are in the forest not far from the hospital. Since the area is surrounded by Henry’s men, they could not approach rashly to check on you, so they sent me in first to see how you were."
"What? They are that close?" I asked with some surprise.
Realizing that I was getting agitated, I took a deep breath to lower my voice and added, "Do you know when they plan to make their move? This time, Henry and Levi have laid a net of heaven and earth, waiting for Donald to walk into it. You must tell him to be cautious in his actions! I’m stable here for the time being, so tell him not to worry about me."
Licia furrowed her brows as she listened to me speak, shaking her head before answering my first question, "He didn’t tell me the details of the battle plan, so I can’t relay any useful information to you. He will certainly find a way to break through and rescue you. All you can do is wait patiently."
I wasn’t surprised by Licia’s answer. Donald probably doubted Licia’s allegiance just as I did, so not telling her any specific battle plans was actually quite reasonable.
I glanced at Licia and did not mock her further. Her situation was likely very awkward. Henry and Martha would surely not fully trust her, and her only son had been deeply hurt by her past actions. It was already very kind and generous of her to come in and relay a message to me.
Simo remained silent as Licia and I exchanged information, his hands never ceasing their work. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Layer upon layer of white gauze was wrapped around my palm. I glanced sideways and suddenly heard someone approaching outside. "Someone’s coming in!" I whispered as a warning.
At the sound, Licia swiftly put on her mask and took two steps back, positioning herself to appear as nothing more than a quiet, harmless nurse.
Simo paused for a moment, then forced himself to calm down quickly, striving to appear as nonchalant as possible.
"Has it not been cleaned up yet? Is the cut so severe that other medical practitioners need to be involved?" The tense and slightly unnatural voice of Levi came from the doorway.
With the gauze now secure, Simo looked up at me and nodded before responding, "Fortunately, the tendons and bones are untouched, and I’m nearly finished. Just a moment more, Young Master Levi!"
Levi seemed reassured by Simo’s reply and fell into silence, but he remained immobile at the doorway.
We had already been inside for nearly 10 minutes. Staying any longer might raise Levi’s suspicions. I frowned and stood up from the chair, swaying slightly and almost tumbling over!
"Be careful!" Startled, Simo quickly extended a hand to steady me.
With a loud ’bang’, the door was suddenly kicked open from the outside. Levi strode in, his face still showing unmasked concern, "What happened? Is something wrong?"
