Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 337 ’Eternal Life
[Margaret’s perspective]
With my understanding of Henry the traitor, after he finished speaking just now, there must have been some other malicious ideas sprouting in his mind.
This paranoid and terrifying man was too adept at observing and controlling people’s hearts. Among the guests present, it seemed no one could match him, except for Donald.
"Yes, that’s right, I did indeed develop the potion you mentioned before, but it currently has some minor flaws... Of course, if Mr. Gino, you need it, I can offer it to you unconditionally, provided that you agree to help me with three things!"
As Henry finished speaking, the smile on his face became much more sincere. Had I not already witnessed his superb acting skills, I would have been deceived by him now. He was really good at concealing his true intentions, determined to achieve his goals at any cost!
"’Minor flaws’—what do you mean by that? This vague talk won’t do, as it doesn’t allow us to really trust you," Gino slowly lowered the gun in his hand, his previously confrontational attitude had eased somewhat, though he remained guarded.
I thought to myself that this Gino still retained a bit of sense, not to be lured in by Henry’s smooth talk. The mysterious potion they mentioned was the same one that nearly caused organ failure throughout Angel’s body, bringing her a step away from direct death—a lethal ’poison’.
Henry called these terrifying side effects and sequelae of the poison ’minor flaws,’ which truly was a huge joke. His underlying motives were incredibly malicious and insane. Donald and I could not continue to stand by idly, for Gino seemed genuinely interested in making such a trade!
After putting down his gun, Gino walked down the steps, approaching Henry in the center of the first floor, silently waiting for an affirmative answer from him.
"Alright, let me be honest with you. I’m not yet able to fully control the side effects of ’Eternal Life,’ but there are other ways to use it safely! I mean you can utilize it with my assistance, and should any situation arise, I can also handle it immediately. How does my suggestion sound to you, Mr. Gino?"
Seemingly unable to resist Gino’s gaze, Henry put on a helpless expression and spoke in an extremely gentle tone.
Seeing the wariness in Gino’s face relax, I had a very bad premonition. After thinking it over, I tapped my folding fan against the windowsill.
The transaction between Henry and Gino was underway, and the scene was very quiet, so the noise I made was like a thunderclap out of the blue, quickly attracting the attention of many people, including Levi, who had been watching Gino with a cold face.
"Ms. Diana? Do you want to say something? Please, speak up!"
Levi spoke with a gleam in his eyes, as if I were some sort of glowing mobile vault, highly captivating his attention.
I unfolded my fan and curled my lips into a smile, though my eyes behind the mask held no warmth, "After hearing so much, I’ve become interested in Mr. Henry’s goods. One can never have too many business partners, and I think we might sit down and have a detailed talk. I will show you my sincerity."
Levi had not seen me before. I was confident he would have no suspicion of me, but as for Henry, I wasn’t sure if my altered voice would fool him, since we had spent some time together before.
"Oh? So Ms. Diana is also interested in our goods, that’s wonderful. We are in great need of powerful partners like you! A detailed talk is certainly possible, but it will have to wait a moment..."
"Ambition is indeed necessary in business, but more often, what you need is to learn how to assess the situation and control the scene. The stakes at Lilo Sea are still too small; we can talk bigger! You two had better think it through. I am giving you an opportunity right now, and I hope you don’t disappoint me."
I interrupted Levi, gently swaying the fan and leaning on the windowsill. Donald, standing motionless, half-embraced my waist. The lights on the second floor were somewhat dim, making it not very clear to see from downstairs, and his elaborate mask also concealed him very well.
My ideas and plans were certainly compelling enough for Levi. His struggle with Gino made it clear to me that he was not the true ruler of Lilo Sea, at least not the sole authority here! Therefore, an external and very capable partner was crucial; he would not reject the wealthy and powerful ’Diana.’ He needed ’Diana’s’ support.
What puzzled me somewhat was Henry’s continued silence. He shouldn’t have noticed anything amiss, but his gaze in our direction was unreadable.
"You remind me of a friend I know; talking about her makes me miss her already."
After being silent for a while, Henry suddenly spoke, his comment—seemingly out of nowhere—must have sounded quite baffling to the others.
"A ’friend’? Who might that be?" Levi furrowed his brow and asked almost reflexively.
His expression seemed to question, how could you have a friend I don’t know?
