Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 330 Unusual Physical Symptoms
[Margaret’s perspective]
I felt myself about to fall asleep any second, so I slowly raised my hand to wrap it around Donald’s neck and whispered, "Ever since our time at the Silver Moon Pack, Benjamin has already been my teacher. The sleeping pill is taking effect, and I’m so sleepy, Donald. Take me back to sleep, will you?"
Donald had long realized something was off with me, his strong arms hooking around the crook of my knees, lifting me up securely.
He looked down at me with concern in his voice, "So the sleeping pills you slipped into Licia’s drink were actually in that seemingly safe glass of water, is that it? How could you be so careless, drinking the water you spiked for someone else!"
"But how else was I to catch Licia off guard if I didn’t drink it? I’m okay, darling, I’m just really sleepy. I didn’t sleep well last night either, so keep me company while I catch up on sleep, all right?"
By this time, my voice was completely slurred, coming off as unabashed coquetry to Donald’s ears.
Donald’s eyes were full of helplessness and affection which I couldn’t see, but I felt something warm touch the corner of my eye and then snuggled into Donald’s embrace, drifting into a deep, sweet sleep.
The little gadget Benjamin and I had collaborated on was indeed effective, colorless, and tasteless, catching one completely off guard. Even if Licia had extraordinary vigilance, what good would it do her, thoroughly conquered by advanced technology!
In fact, Donald and I were both aware that conventional methods were unlikely to outsmart Licia, who was a very clever person herself!
However, sometimes even the smartest people can be misled by their assumed correct judgments. My gambit of ’sacrifice one to kill a thousand,’ as clumsy as it seemed, was effective and multifaceted. Looking at the final outcome, it didn’t seem so foolish.
After all, who would have thought that the one laying out the plan would step into the trap first? It must be said this move was simple but unexpected!
Luckily, I had only taken a slight sip from Licia’s glass, and by evening, I had naturally woken up.
Resting my head on the pillow, I felt a bit stuffy, and faintly nauseous!
Ruth, who was waiting outside our bedroom door, was the first to notice my condition. She stepped in quickly, her voice gentle with concern, "You’re awake, Your Highness the Lycan Queen, would you like some water?"
I nodded, and Ruth handed me the glass she’d filled swiftly.
The clear, sweet water moistened my throat, and only then did I feel revitalized. I handed the glass back to Ruth, glanced at the quiet doorway of the bedroom, and asked, "What about everyone else?"
The one I truly wanted to inquire about was Donald. Ruth, having been with me for so long, understood implicitly. Her face broke into a smile as she replied warmly, "His Majesty and the others are discussing matters in the next room. His Majesty said to inform him as soon as you woke up. I’ll go and let His Majesty know right away."
She was about to rise to leave when I quickly raised my hand to stop her and, after a moment’s thought, continued, "Before you call Donald, could you ask the kitchen to prepare something for me to eat? I’m a bit hungry."
Of course, Ruth wouldn’t refuse my request and with a nod, she left to carry out the order.
I then lifted the soft quilt and tried to get up to freshen up in the bathroom, but barely had I steadied myself than a wave of intense dizziness hit me. I grabbed onto the lamp beside me in a fright!
’Crash!’
The lamp, unstable, fell to the ground, and I stumbled a few steps before I managed to regain my balance. My vision cleared at that moment, and a cold sweat broke out on my arm!
I subconsciously thought that this happened because I had slept too much today and had gotten up too quickly from bed.
Pressing the unnaturally throbbing in my chest, I slowly walked into the bathroom. Looking in the mirror at my pale complexion, I raised my eyebrows and began to freshen up, completely oblivious to the fact that my current condition was not normal.
Ruth quickly returned with some delicious food. I sat in the seating area outside the bedroom, eyes closed, enjoying the gentle touch of the evening sea breeze.
Hearing Ruth’s footsteps, I opened my eyes and slowly said, "The scented candles in the bedroom don’t smell very good. Throw them away later, will you?"
Ruth paused slightly, setting down the food before replying, "All right, Your Highness. But those were the ones you personally chose before and you said they smelled particularly good, so you bought a lot of them at once!"
"Is that so? If you like them, take them for yourself, but I don’t want to smell it anymore. It makes me feel nauseous." I murmured nonchalantly, recalling and began to dine with the utensils.
Ruth watched me silently and gave a small smile, finding my current behavior somewhat endearing, "Then, what scent would you and His Majesty prefer for your bedroom? I’ll go search the storeroom later to see if I can find a suitable one."
Hearing this, I immediately shook my head and, frowning, refused, "No need, let’s not use any scented candles at all. Just make sure to ventilate the bedroom and keep it clean."
"Oh, okay." Seeing how adamant my refusal was, as if I truly detested the scent of all the scented candles, Ruth nodded and compliantly agreed.
