Chapter 315: 315 sacrifice

[Donald’s Perspective]

When the daylight over the Royal City had finally faded, the bizarre and swift rebellion war had also come to an end, concluding with MASTER leading the remnant of the Rebels fleeing westward. We could actually claim a complete victory!

What I mean is, if there hadn’t been so many Lycan sacrifices.

"Your Majesty! MASTER led the remaining Rebels southwest, and after entering the Mol Lake region, they disappeared completely. Mark and Louis closely followed them all the way and finally lost track of MASTER near there. I have ordered them to continue the search, and we should hear news soon."

"Moreover, in today’s battle, we lost a total of 120 Lycans, including 2 from the assault team, 4 from the personal guard force, and 47 warriors from the Royal City Garrison. The Royal City Patrol Team... The Royal City Patrol Team lost a total of 67 Lycans, including their captain—David."

Christian’s voice grew heavier as he reported this last part, his eyes reddening especially when mentioning the Royal City Patrol Team, which suffered the heaviest losses.

He clenched the document in his hand, veins bulging, and a silence slowly fell upon the grand hall.

The loss of each comrade weighed heavily on all of us. Although everyone was an elite Lycan who had survived countless battles and near-death experiences, it seemed we could never quite get used to this pain.

Recalling the last words David said before he closed his eyes, I felt a warmth in my eyes, but I eventually stifled the sadness, took a deep breath, and said solemnly, "The compensation for the sacrificed Lycans must be issued immediately, and the families of the warriors must be well taken care of."

"Furthermore, bury all the Lycans who perished in this war in the royal family’s Heroes’ Tomb. I will communicate this with the elders myself, so you need not worry."

Clark, Christian, and Benjamin, who had just come in and had yet to report, all stood aside. Knowing what they likely wanted to say, I spoke ahead of them, addressing all their concerns.

The Heroes’ Tomb of the Wolf royal family is not a resting place for just anyone; it requires specific qualifications and conditions. For example, only Lycan warriors and scientists who had made exceptional contributions to the Wolf royal family, or royal kin, are eligible to be buried in this sacred place.

Seeing that I had no intention of changing my decision, Clark wisely kept his mouth shut, silently acquiescing to my somewhat presumptuous decision.

Christian took a deep breath, his eyes still visibly moist, yet his expression was clearly one of relief. Being an exceptional Lycan himself, he was naturally reassured that his comrades would be honored so well in death.

Benjamin had been silent since entering, and I knew he was here to report on the condition of the injured, so I gathered myself and looked at him, "How are things at the infirmary camp?"

"Your Majesty, all the injured soldiers and officers have been settled. The severely injured warriors are being treated by the Holy Medical Pavilion and the medical school. Here is the compiled list of injuries for your review," Benjamin said as he stepped forward and handed me the document. I took it and looked it over, then nodded and responded, "Good, I feel relieved having you handle these matters. Continue to follow up on these issues, and remember to report back to me promptly."

Upon hearing this, Benjamin bowed his head in acknowledgment. His dark circles looked frighteningly deep. He had been engrossed in his lab studying MASTER’s elixirs and dealing with Angel’s issues all day. After the outbreak of the war, he had been rushing around at the front lines. Having just managed to sort out all the injured, he could finally breathe a little easier.

I looked around at everyone in the hall, thought for a moment, and then spoke loudly, "Everyone has worked hard during this period, but the matters related to MASTER cannot afford any slack from us. Please continue to be vigilant, thank you for your efforts!"

Hearing this, the ministers and Lycans in the grand hall instantly became solemn, placed a fist over their hearts, and responded in unison, "Thank you for your compassion, Your Majesty. We are willing to offer our hearts and souls for you and the Wolf royal family."

I nodded to signify that everyone could disperse, keeping only Benjamin and Christian behind.

With just the three of us left in the grand hall, it quieted down a bit, I rubbed my tired eyes and asked Benjamin, "How are they doing?"

Benjamin knew I was referring to Elizabeth and Armstrong, and the critically wounded Anthony.

"Lord Armstrong and Miss Elizabeth’s injuries are not particularly severe. They should fully recover in about two months with careful treatment from the Holy Medical Pavilion. Anthony..." Benjamin paused, seemingly choosing his words carefully.

I opened my eyes and looked at him, speaking softly, "Why has everyone become so long-winded? Just say what you need to say. Do I need to emphasize this?"

Since meeting Margaret, I had rarely been so stern with my subordinates, but today’s situation was particularly special, and I admit that I was slightly out of sorts.
