Chapter 307: 307 transaction

[Margaret’s Perspective]

Lillian had proposed her exchange condition, which Donald and I naturally heard loud and clear. I silently watched this deranged woman, while Donald also refrained from responding to her immediately.

A deathly silence spread between us, and just as Lillian was about to say something more, Henry, who had been silent and almost inconspicuous among us, suddenly spoke up:

"To exchange the Empress Dowager for a mere corpse, Your Majesty, what’s there to hesitate about? This woman has gone mad. Are you really willing to gamble with the Empress Dowager’s safety?"

Henry’s pale face was filled with worry and incomprehension as he spoke. He genuinely seemed very concerned that Lillian might suddenly go berserk and hurt Licia, but I found it odd that he would interject at this moment!

I hadn’t heard from Donald that Henry and Licia were particularly close...

While I was pondering these distractions, the situation on the field changed abruptly. Lillian, from seemingly nowhere, drew a sharp dagger and quickly slashed at Licia’s throat!

"Ah!" Licia let out a faint cry of pain as bright red blood immediately flowed down her neck, staining her collar, creating a sight that was truly alarming!

Shocked, I widened my eyes and shouted, "Stop, Lillian!"

"Stop! Don’t move, Lillian!" Donald’s reaction was much stronger than mine. He quickly drew his handgun and aimed it at Lillian with a face full of deadly ice.

I grabbed Donald’s sleeve and then stepped forward with hands raised, gesturing to Lillian to calm down, "Let’s calm down, Lillian. We haven’t said we won’t agree to your demand! Don’t hurt Mother now; whatever you ask, we’ll agree to it!"

Donald’s heavy breathing sounded like thunder in my ears. I knew he detested the feeling of being threatened, but given the current situation, we didn’t seem to have a better option.

My grip tightened on his sleeve, conveying an unspoken message. "Fine! I agree to your terms; you can take Austin away," Donald said with a heavy voice, conceding.

I barely released a sigh of relief and coldly watched Lillian from across the way.

"Heh! Look, isn’t everyone happy now? I don’t understand why you were so stubborn before! Go on, bring my brother out from the Holy Medical Pavilion, and I’ll wait here for you," Lillian instructed with a flicker of triumph on her face, arrogantly directing me and Donald.

"You seem to know quite a lot, even where Austin’s body is kept at the Holy Medical Pavilion!" Donald finished speaking and narrowed his eyes dangerously, and I knew exactly what he was thinking at that moment.

Donald had previously suspected the authenticity of Austin’s suicide by poisoning and had secretly handed over the body to Dean Andrew of the Holy Medical Pavilion early on. This affair was almost entirely confidential, but just now, without a second thought, Lillian blurted out this secret. How could this not arouse suspicions that someone was secretly helping Lillian?

Lillian seemed to realize something too, with streaks of discomfort crossing her face. She looked up defiantly at Donald and shrilly said, "Enough talk, get moving and do as I say! Also, I want a helicopter to leave this place, I want it in 5 minutes, along with my brother. You better deliver them both into my hands, you got that?"

Upon hearing this, Donald continued to mockingly chuckle but still turned his head to glance at Clark beside him, "Do as she says," Donald ordered.

Lillian was very pleased with Donald’s arrangements, the smugness on her face growing ever more apparent, matching the madness in the depths of her eyes.

She looked toward the guest seats on the other side of the hall and mockingly asked, "Margaret, feeling pretty good about yourself today? Though a marriage without the blessings of your own parents can’t be all that perfect, can it? Hahaha!"

"That spectacular argument you had with your father earlier, I didn’t miss a thing! Tsk tsk tsk, it’s actually quite pitiful..."

Though I felt indifferent to the enemy’s schadenfreude, I’ve never liked others mocking me. I snickered back, "Instead of worrying about me, you’d better think about how you’re going to get out of here in one piece."

Seemingly annoyed by my indifference to her verbal assault, Lillian became noticeably infuriated, but she quickly suppressed her emotions and continued, "You won’t always be so lucky. I’ll be waiting to see the pathetic sight of you falling from grace."

At that moment, I didn’t quite understand what Lillian meant by that, but I watched as her brows slowly furrowed.

Meanwhile, during our negotiation and entanglement with Lillian, the sound of gunfire from outside the hall had not ceased.

Suddenly, there was a rush of footsteps from outside the great doors of the hall, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw that it was Captain David, who we had spoken with on the phone earlier.
