Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 306 Assassinations
[Margaret’s Perspective]
In the midst of the surrounding gasps and cries for help, I swiftly knocked the gun out of the priest’s hand, and Donald, quickly regaining his composure, subdued the would-be assassin with a sudden and precise elbow strike.
I kicked the fallen handgun away and looked sideways at Donald and this ’priest’.
With a menacing look, Donald coldly interrogated the attacker, "Who sent you? Speak now, or I will kill you this instant!"
This person, who’d dared to brazenly attempt to assassinate the Lycan King, was naturally not intimidated by Donald’s threat. With a look of deep resentment, he glanced at Donald and scoffed with irony, "If I feared death, I wouldn’t be here today! Donald, even if you kill me right now, the outcome of this day will not change. ’MASTER’ will replace you and lead us towards a new future!"
"Is that so? Then die first!"
With a crisp ’snap’, Donald broke the man’s neck without any hesitation, not bothering to conceal the anger in his eyes. I looked on worriedly and said, "Calm down, Donald, don’t let them disrupt your judgement."
Upon hearing this, Donald stood up and looked at me with a hint of a smile, but his words were ice-cold, "Don’t worry, baby, I’m very calm. I just don’t like others ruining our wedding. These people all deserve to die!"
As he spoke, a burst of intense gunfire suddenly came from outside the chapel and we both turned our heads in that direction almost simultaneously.
Meanwhile, from the VIP seats on the left side of the chapel, came a familiar yet utterly loathsome voice.
"Oh? Why has the wedding suddenly stopped? Are we no longer continuing? Is it time for the priest to ask if there’s anyone present who objects to this marriage? Hahaha!"
Lillian burst into deranged laughter, her eyes filled with rage and hate as she looked at me and Donald. In her hand, she held a lady’s pistol, aimed straight at the temple of Licia!
Several Lycans who were protecting Licia had been killed by Lillian at some unknown time. Now, the only ones left around the two of them were some ministers with no power to fight, and the paralyzed Prince Henry, who likely couldn’t even defend himself.
I stared at Lillian with my brows deeply furrowed, "You actually managed to escape from the surveillance of so many Lycans, I’ve underestimated you! Do you realize who you’re aiming your gun at? The Empress Dowager was the only person who personally protected you after Austin’s death. Is this how you treat your benefactor?"
"Lillian! I advise you to let go of my mother right now, otherwise, I can’t guarantee that my next bullet won’t blow your brains out!" Donald, unlike me, was not patient, his concern for Licia was clearly evident.
I glanced at Donald out of the corner of my eye, my fingers clenched tightly around the hem of my dress, which concealed a gun as I frantically assessed the situation.
It was truly strange for Lillian to show up here all of a sudden, I mean, without anyone’s help from behind!
As I thought this, my gaze quietly fell on Licia.
In the face of a gun pressed against her temple, my mother didn’t seem panicked at all; I even had a strange intuition that Licia had everything under control.
Why was Licia so intent on protecting Lillian, even at the cost of sacrificing so many Lycans? What was she thinking, and what was her ultimate goal?
I couldn’t fathom why Licia was doing this, but I dared not doubt her love for Donald. I didn’t want Donald to be betrayed by his own kin as I had been—betrayed!
"Fine! Try it then, and we’ll see whether you kill me first or if I kill our most esteemed Empress Dowager here first!" Lillian’s response to Donald was filled with excitement and madness. Watching her, I was suddenly reminded of something very familiar.
That’s right, hadn’t there been a similar situation with Angel before?
I reached out and took hold of the hem of Donald’s coat, speaking in a calm and low voice, "Don’t take such risks with mother. Let’s ask her what she wants first."
Donald obviously heard my suggestion, and after clenching his molars and exchanging a look with Licia, he finally spoke, "I can give you a chance to negotiate with me, I hope you’re smart."
"Be clear, if you dare harm a single hair on my mother’s head, it’s highly unlikely that you will walk out of this chapel alive today," I added, reinforcing the implied threat in Donald’s unfinished statement.
Lillian glared at me and Donald with fury, her chest heaving wildly several times before she managed to suppress her overwhelming emotions. She sneered and replied, "My demand is simple, return my brother’s body to me, and then let us leave the Royal City safely."
As I had suspected, Lillian’s obsession was still with Austin. She had indeed been profoundly devoted to her brother.
