Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 300: Wedding Eve
[Margaret’s POV]
"But I really like the feeling of you protecting me, my brave baby! Thank you," Donald said, the tenderness in his wolfish eyes almost enough to drown me.
My tense and on-the-verge emotions were soothed, and after taking a deep breath, I replied wearily, "My dad was being too much just now; he should have curbed his bad temper a long time ago. Today, he certainly got a lesson."
Ignoring the changing expressions on Frantz and Nora’s faces, I frowned and turned my thoughts to other matters.
Donald gently held my hand without saying anything to interrupt my train of thought, but he stood unwaveringly by my side all along.
"There’s a lot about this situation that’s still very strange. I think Elizabeth and Armstrong, who we’ve lost contact with, are probably not in any real danger," I said in a grave tone.
It seemed Donald had thought of something too; he simply looked at me with a soft smile and softly said, "Oh? Why do you say that? What’s on your mind?"
Just then, the sound of the wind came from outside the hallway. It looked like there was going to be a heavy downpour tonight. Donald and I stood in the middle of the corridor, surrounded by many people waiting for us to address how to deal with this sudden attack.
"Tomorrow is the wedding ceremony between Donald and me, and the patrols of the Royal City will only be tighter, not slacker! Therefore, bypassing all these strict patrols and striking the people of the Silver Moon Pack with precision is not something ordinary rebel organizations can achieve. They struck viciously with meticulous planning, and there must be further moves at play!" I voiced my analysis. When I looked up and met Donald’s gaze again, I saw his eyes filled with agreement—he obviously thought so, too.
The enemy chose this moment to covertly attack the usually inconspicuous Silver Moon Pack and taunt the Royal City’s patrol guards like a mockery. It was apparent that their underlying motives were quite clear!
They were either targeting me or the wedding ceremony tomorrow, or perhaps, it was both!
"Our Silver Moon Pack rarely makes enemies, let alone big ones. To carry out such an act without giving themselves away at all, their goals must be significant! And until they can benefit from me, Elizabeth and Armstrong are sure to be safe."
"There is no such thing as unwarranted malice in this world. Since they’ve done this, sooner or later, they will come forward to bargain with us!"
As I spoke these words, I slowly exhaled the stale breath from my lungs and with a cold glance at Frantz reminded him in a firm voice, "Until then, all of us must remain calm. We don’t want to end up without any information and, in the confusion, actually end up helping the enemy!"
Donald, sensitive to my incipient irritability, tightened his grip on my hand a little while continuing to speak calmly, "This is no simple sneak attack, but rather a provocation aimed at Donald and me. The wedding ceremony is imminent, and all of us must keep our composure, not be led by the nose by the enemy."
Donald looked to Chris and Clark with a glance, then after a moment of silence, continued, "David’s patrol guards won’t be this passive and incompetent. He’s definitely leading his men in investigating this matter right now. Here’s what we’ll do: before the wedding ceremony tomorrow, I promise I’ll give everyone an account of this."
"I will also do my utmost to protect the lives of every guest who comes to our Royal City for the feast, ensuring that such an incident doesn’t happen again. And you, Dad, can rest assured of this! I know how deep the bond between Elizabeth and Margaret is. I’ll make sure she arrives unharmed to attend her sister’s and my wedding; every person of the Silver Moon Pack is my guest."
The words of the Lycan King always carried weight, at least more convincing than I, the Lycan Queen.
While I didn’t quite know what Donald was planning next, I had unwavering faith in my mate. He was never one for making empty promises or deceiving others.
If he said he would do something, then he would certainly achieve it.
As for those calculating, despicable characters lurking in the crowd, plotting with malice, you’re doomed to fail! Evil never prevails over good, a truth that holds in this world.
Donald then issued several royal decrees to Chris and Clark, his strikingly handsome features exuding an unquestionable aura of authority and dignity from beginning to end!
Even though Frantz and Nora were convinced by his words, still harboring some concerns and unease, they finally stopped causing a nuisance, and I gradually let out a sigh of relief.
Half an hour later, the heavy rain descended upon the Royal City at night, fierce as if it were cleansing something away.
