Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 299: Out of control
[Margaret’s POV]
Upon suddenly hearing such devastating news, Frantz had completely lost his mind. He began attacking everyone present indiscriminately, including his own Lycan King son-in-law whom he had always held in high regard!
"Donald, what kind of monarch are you? Your Werewolf Royal City has been infiltrated by the enemy. Aren’t you embarrassed? How are you going to explain this to me? With what will you compensate me for the pain of losing my precious daughter and son-in-law?"
Like a madman, Frantz accused everyone in sight, especially Donald, standing amidst the crowd. A surge of bizarre thoughts crossed my mind as I turned and regarded him with a cold stare.
Nora seemed much calmer than Frantz, but by now, her eyes were bloodshot. She reached out to grip the somewhat hysterical Frantz, her voice hoarse as she urged him to calm down.
"No... perhaps things aren’t as serious as you think, Mr. Frantz! Could you please calm down for a moment? We will handle this situation as swiftly as possible. Luna Elizabeth and Alpha Armstrong might not have encountered disaster; they could still be alive!"
Clark’s less than convincing attempts to calm the situation quickly broke the oppressively tense atmosphere.
I took a shallow breath, suppressing all the doubts in my heart, and squeezed Donald’s hand, frowning as I looked toward Frantz, his face flushed with rage, and I said in a stern voice, "Losing your mind won’t save Elizabeth. If you still hope for your sister to come back alive, cool down right now! This is not the place for you to vent your madness."
"Elizabeth and Armstrong have been attacked; is that something Donald did on purpose? Instead of cursing those treacherous and despicable attackers, or thinking of ways to find Elizabeth and support them, you just throw a fit in front of Donald and me?"
"Are you the only one anxious here? While everyone respects you, that doesn’t mean you can act recklessly!"
My tone was frigid and fast as I spoke, leaving Frantz a few steps away from me looking as if he’d been struck dumb, just staring at me.
Frantz hadn’t expected such a forceful response from me, and it seemed that Nora hadn’t either, "Margaret! I... Your father is just overly worried about your sister, please don’t be so angry with him. He’s lost his senses in his rage, but we still need to calm down and figure out how to rescue Elizabeth and the others!"
Turning to Nora, who was still making excuses for Frantz, a struggle flickered inside me. Eventually, I couldn’t help but respond dryly, "He has indeed lost his senses, but you’re the one who’s been maliciously enabling him your whole life! Why are you so weak in front of him?"
"You’re such an intelligent and kind person, why have you never stood up to him? Not for my sake, but for your own, have you ever seriously communicated with him?"
"Sometimes, standing by idly can make one an accomplice, Mother, do you realize that?"
As I uttered these somewhat sarcastic words, a light laugh escaped me, unable to fully restrain the bitterness within. If Frantz’s open and unapologetic favoritism hurt me and Elizabeth, then Nora played a role in exacerbating it.
I was saddened by this favoritism and grieved by it.
I had never thought to compete for Elizabeth’s belongings; all I wanted was a basic sense of fairness.
Frantz and Nora might overlook me, but they shouldn’t be so biased and selfish when it comes to our sons-in-law!
Donald is my chosen mate and the monarch of the entire Wolf royal family. Why should he have to suffer such a nauseating injustice?
They should treat Donald as they did Armstrong before, that is my final line in the sand.
This was, in fact, the first time I had expressed my rebellion so forcefully. I was fed up with their self-righteousness, and I wouldn’t allow anyone to slander or insult my Lycan King! 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Margaret..."
That was Donald tenderly calling my name.
I turned and looked up at him, trying to muster a faint smile, and spoke in a gentle voice, "Sorry, I also lost control today. These matters shouldn’t have been brought up in front of so many people, but I just couldn’t hold it in."
"Don’t feel pressured, this isn’t the fault of the Lycan King alone. Nobody could have predicted this; if anyone is to blame, it’s the enemy for being so cunning and sinister!"
As I spoke, Donald just quietly watched me, his eyes deep and calm as if they could soothe all my bad moods.
"I know, and I don’t think this is my fault," he said softly, as though comforting me.
He sighed gently, a smile and a look of indulgence appearing in his eyes.
