Chapter 286: Occasional encounter?

[Margaret’s POV]

I was deeply in love with Donald and would have given my life for him.

I believed Donald felt the same way.

"Thank you, Donald," I said to my lover, a slight warmth in the corners of my eyes.

Donald kissed my eyes and answered with a smile, "I love you too."

I had once eagerly anticipated spending my life with Armstrong, but after meeting Donald, I deeply realized that such thoughts were mistaken. Armstrong was not meant for me; everything I had belonged to Donald, including my soul!

That afternoon, I asked Ruth to accompany me for a walk in the garden outside the Eastern Shine Palace.

Thanks to the relentless effort of Dr. Ace and Benjamin over the past few days, the injury on my shoulder had almost completely healed.

Benjamin had gained some inspiration from the ’MASTER’ recovery potion and had created a new, extremely rare healing medicine, which was highly effective and had almost no side effects!

This event had become a milestone for the Lycan Medical School and the Holy Medical Pavilion these past few days, propelling Benjamin to become one of the most celebrated figures in Royal City. He truly was riding high.

I was very fortunate to be the user of this rare medicine, and my injuries quickly improved.

But even so, Donald always seemed to want to keep his eyes on me all the time! I always felt that he was being overly anxious about me. This was his royal chamber after all; no one could breach the layers of protection and harm me here.

"Lycan Queen! Let’s not walk too far. If His Majesty finds out that you are not resting properly in the palace, he might get angry, don’t you think? Besides, your wound isn’t completely healed; don’t catch a cold and fall sick again!" Ruth remarked worriedly, looking at the increasingly unfamiliar surroundings.

Donald had kept me under tight constraints while I was recovering, and I indeed felt overly excited about breathing this fresh air.

Looking around at the buildings, I recognized they indeed seemed unfamiliar. I slowly nodded and said, "It’s getting dark; let’s go back."

Ruth feigned a exaggerated sigh of relief upon hearing this. I smiled at her, turned around to head back, but before we could really leave the area, cries for help and shouts came from a simple building behind us!

"Catch her! Don’t let her get away!"

"This way, this way, block her! If she really escapes today, the Empress Dowager won’t spare us!"

"Ah ah ah! How could this bitch still be biting people?"

"Shut up! Keep it down! Don’t let others hear you, do you want to die?"

My hearing was much better than Ruth’s, and when they mentioned the Empress Dowager, I involuntarily stopped.

I looked back quickly and noticed that the group was heading in my direction, and the woman being chased by the maids looked familiar!

"Margaret? It’s actually you! Why are you here, to gloat at my disgrace?"

The woman sprinted to a halt right in front of me and Ruth, as if realizing there was no escaping now.

Listening to the woman’s rather impolite tone, I suddenly recognized her as Lillian.

The Lillian in front of me was starkly different from the last time I saw her; if not for her typical haughty demeanor and condescending gaze, I would not have recognized her at a glance!

Her dress looked like it hadn’t been changed in many days, her complexion and hair were as lifeless as her dark-circled eyes, which almost covered the lower half of her face, making her look utterly disheveled and dirty. She wasn’t wrong in her self-assessment.

Thinking about everything she had been through these days, I felt no interest in ridiculing her, merely glanced at her indifferently, twirled the fan in my hand, and was about to leave.

But it seemed that this glance ignited all her nerves, and she began screaming hysterically, her voice as if she wanted to devour me alive!

"You bitch Margaret! Stop right there! Who are you to mock me? What right do you have to laugh at me? Do you think you’ve defeated me? Don’t even think about it! I will not let you off easily even in death! You will pay with your life! Return my brother’s life to me! I’ll kill you, you bitch!"

Lillian’s hysterical shrieks did not pose any threat in my eyes; let alone her current weak and mad state, even at her prime, she was hardly a match for me.

Although I rarely show my martial prowess in public, that doesn’t mean I am weak. I am someone who can fight a few rounds with Angel.
