Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 280: Andrew, the old dean
[Donald’s POV]
I nodded lightly upon hearing this, glanced down at Austin on the ground, and silently returned to the throne.
It was only after all the Lycans in the great hall had dispersed that Clark, along with Benjamin and the dean of the Holy Medical Pavilion—Andrew, returned to the hall, accompanied by Christian who had just rushed back to the Palace not long before.
During their journey, they must have heard Clark’s brief account of the events, so they immediately began their work on examining the body!
Benjamin was well aware of why I had done this. Along the way, we had been frightened by the unceasing appearance of strange potions from ’MASTER.’ Who could guarantee that Austin’s act today wasn’t schemed by ’MASTER’ well in advance?
I couldn’t risk the possibility that it wasn’t, so I had to be cautious at all times.
About 5 minutes later, Andrew was the first to lift his head. He first looked at Benjamin next to him, who was still focused, and then turned to respectfully report to me, "Your Majesty, I am certain that this man is dead, showing no signs of life."
Listening to Andrew’s report, I let out a soft sigh, raised my hand slightly, and replied calmly, "Rise, Mr. Andrew, I understand. Thank you for making the trip so late."
As I spoke, I glanced at Benjamin on the ground but paid no heed to the confusion in Andrew’s eyes.
Soon, Benjamin also slowly rose from the ground, his expression extremely solemn as he responded, "Your Majesty, my conclusion is the same as Teacher Andrew’s."
I nodded, looked at Christian on the side, and instructed, "Take the body away discreetly, just keep it at... keep it at the Holy Medical Pavilion for now, and remember, do not let anyone see it."
Christian, who would not question any of my decisions, respectfully responded with a ’yes’ and then led two people to carry away Austin’s body!
I glanced at their retreating figures, my gaze particularly falling on the white sheet covering Austin, furrowing my brows heavily, as if they couldn’t be smoothed out...
In the end, it was Andrew’s calm inquiry that brought back my senses. He asked, "Your Majesty, since you had already determined that this person was deceased, why call me and Benjamin here on such short notice? Do you think he was feigning death?"
As he spoke, he seemed to recall something, a flicker of complexity flashing in his eyes as he continued, "Could Austin also be involved with those bizarre werewolves? Are you suspecting that he is involved with that organization? Commander Angel... no, is Angel herself also like this?"
Seemingly struggling to accept such a fact, Andrew looked at me with a pained expression, tinged with sadness.
Regarding this highly respected elder, I held great respect and trust. I began to explain, "This matter has not been fully investigated yet. I will inform you first when there are results. I know you have always liked Angel, but she has committed many crimes, and I will not be lenient. I hope you can understand that."
Upon hearing this, Andrew heaved a deep sigh and shook his head to explain, "Your Majesty, you have misunderstood my intention; I am not trying to plead for anyone. I am just worried about you!"
"Angel and Austin were both very close companions and friends by your side, and now all are involved in this major case of treason and collusion with the enemy. The enemy is clearly targeting you! You must be particularly careful! If there is anything else that the Holy Medical Pavilion can assist with in the future, just speak up. Even if it costs me my life, I will continue to support you.
"You still have so many capable subordinates by your side, you won’t be left unguarded."
The dean’s words were timely and struck a chord with me.
Just moments ago, I indeed doubted myself. Why would my friends around me betray me like this? In Austin’s eyes, was I never truly his friend? And why did he harbor so much hatred towards me?
In those corners I hadn’t noticed, when had he and Angel started to change?
Such ridiculous self-doubt of course would not be expressed to outsiders, but Andrew, an astute physician, noticed my anomaly. With a few simple words, he soothed my fleeting vulnerability.
"Thank you, I understand." I responded warmly, a trace of a smile sliding across my eyes as I gladly accepted the old dean’s comfort.
Meanwhile, Benjamin, who had been silent until now, and Clark, whose facial expression was somewhat indiscernible, both also visibly relaxed a bit.
